Thor's Lightning Rapid 4-Tire Inflation/Deflation System
มุมมอง 2.2K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is my video review of the Thor's Lighting Inflation System for tires. In the video I incorrectly state that the system includes 4 hoses. I meant to say that it includes two hoses connecting to all four tires. The system works well, reduces time to air down for off road use and insures that all four tires have equal inflation pressure. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments b...

A short video showing the area around Glenn Springs in Big Bend National Park. This was recorded in December of 2023 and the fall colors were in full swing on the desert floor and in the Chisos Basin. I did not get a chance to record any video in the basin. I spent 5 full nights in the park on this trip. My longest stay so far.

Rad I'll check it out
Very cool interesting piece of history. We drive across the toll bridge all the time to get to our daughters house in Little Elm and had no idea that the islands we see out there were the old damn remnants. Thanks for the video!!
No they are not. I haven't seen any illegals or suspected criminals.
I remember when they blasted the dam and combined the two. At 80, I remember a lot....
Is the CARTEL ever an issue visiting Big Bend National Park?? some say yes especially NOW with the border crisis and everyone sneaking across easily. Just want to. make sure we'll be safe out there.
Hi, is this mid-size or full size hose setup?
@@clairvoyant85 Full Size. This F-150 is 19ft long
@@brianbechtol7329 Thanks! I ordered yesterday a mid size (for my Raptor) thinking it would suffice, being 21 ft on each side. Think it will be too short? I plan on using a separate air compressor
@@clairvoyant85 From what I understood, the mid size hose was for shorter length vehicles like a Jeep. It might reach the front of your Raptor, but will it span the length between the tires? For example, this truck has a 144.5 inch wheelbase so that has to be taken into consideration
nvm, it is just 8 bucks difference - might as well get the full size :) Thanks for helping me make a decision thru your video
The equipment shack and antennas are in-use, that's why the power is still active. It's the US Forest Service's repeater system for the Sacramento district (Transmitting on 164.8250MHz)
@@patriot_in_nm Thank you!
Beautifully spectacular scenery!!
@@dennisbutler7738 Thanks for watching these videos. I'm glad you can connect and get some enjoyment watching them
Amazing view!! We also left Dallas area Yesterday to escape the heat and enjoying the rain in southern MO Ozark Natl. Scenic Riverways. 100% agreee with the Grand Canyon comparison. Been to both also and Gunnison is much more dramatically UP CLOSE.
@@dennisbutler7738The canyon here is so amazing we came back for a second day and I'm glad we did. Sounds like you are having an awesome time there in Missouri. Have a safe trip!
That is such a cool area. Always loved the western Colorado plateau. Nice shots.
If your trailer is under 20ft or if you're tent camping, get a spot in the Chios Basin campground. Trust me. You'll thank me.
@@JDIBe Yes sir you are correct. First time I tent camped in Big Bend was in the Chisos Basin when I was 13 years old. That was a long time ago and I've been back numerous times since. Good recommendation!
Stay tubeless on gravel or mountain, tubes for road
Tubeless is the answer.
I just got one, have not used it yet. I bought the compressor and the air hose kit. The compressor is 25 pounds. The hose kit cost 199 and the compressor is 199, 399.
Thanks for watching. What kind of vehicle will you be using it on?
It is nice to see a set up that doesn't require building a bed platform & cabinets. Thank you for sharing.
Yes sir. It's still working well 3 years later. Just completed a trip to Big Bend using this F150. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate the viewer's input.
It was full when we were there in December. We camped in the open
December is a great time of year to be in Big Bend. It can get a bit crowded around the holidays though. Hope you enjoyed your trip there.
Great video . We are heading there in Feb . This is a BIG help. Thanks
Nice setup and very simple.... Mine is just about identical and i put a bicycle tube between the cab and the cap and at 195lbs/ 5'8" i can get through to the cab if needed for security reasons
I recognized that mountain range!Hopefully sealant works with those tubolitos. Do they have a removable core? I’m about to try them for the first time.
Yes, those are the Sandia mountains. I can't remember if the core is removable. I have since recycled the tubes. Thanks for watching
WTB Riddlers are garbage. Gave mine away. Thin crap.
Agreed. Very thin. That thin casing probably helps contribute to the low rolling resistance
You should do a video on how to make the battery bank from recycled laptop batteries. That would be interesting (to me). Spread the word and let's save the landfills! Thanks.
That is a good idea David. I still have part of the kit and some loose cells. I've never done a demo video before. We will see. Thank for watching
sure why not. years ago had a 1986 f-150 for 14 years. 8ft bed. before i put a topper on the truck. i fit my 4 x 7 2 person tent into the bed. as long as the tent fits between the wheel wells, have at it. if you have a tonneau cover on the bed. for a evac, just pull the poles, fold them half way, roll close the cover, hit the road. also if you want to keep the rain out of the bed just get a tarp larger enough to run from below the top front of the bed out over the tent entrance, an over the sides of the truck bed. tie this down with bungee cords.
Nice spot!
My setup is similar. Switched to a Kovea Cupid butane heater, size is better for my camper. I use clear tubs under the cot to see what is in them and my top leaks in the corners so I don’t want cloth bags underneath me. Thanks for the tour and ideas.
Thanks for your ideas also. It's good to hear what other people are using and doing. This truck is still pretty much the same as when I made this video and works well. Thanks for watching
Love the area! I’m an overlander out of east Texas and SE Oklahoma is where I go most.
What boots are those? @3:35
Those are a Georgia Boot GR500. Thanks for watching!
@@brianbechtol7329 Awesome, thank you!!
That cot is the way I'm going to set my truck up. It saves a lot of time and I'm not that much of a carpenter. I seem to bend more Nails then I drive home and yes I know you could use screws which would probably be better anyway. But I like the idea of using the cot it's just a lot quicker to take it out than it is something heavy that you build. Great idea, going to use it myself. Y'all think about it now!
Was that one working?
No. This one had been disabled by the school. If I remember correctly the car was sitting higher because the batteries were missing.
The Ohio River is twice the size of the Mississippi at the confluence. Looks like the Mississippi is a tributary of the Ohio, imho.
Cleaning the puncture with alcohol wipe then a glue less patch, yesterday I doubled up and used some super tacky flex tape over a patch 🙂👍🏻
I haven't had luck with the patches on these tubes but I have had luck with a drop of crazy glue to deal small punctures.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing that and watching the video!
I like the way you offset the weight of the bed with the weight of the driver. Makes sense. Some builds have most of the weight on the left side of the truck. I always like to say, "Careful taking a left turn with speed; you may flip over!" LOL!!
so many riders
Right. I've never seen so many bicycles in one place
Looks like a good turnout. Thanks for Sharing. Stay Safe. Stay Healthy.
Yes sir same to you. They estimated somewhere between 11000 to 13000 people were there that day. Good turnout for sure. Thanks for watching
I lived in Cairo till 1966. I went on picnics and played on that lookout tower as a small child. Those windows were closed then by pulled down shades. I have lots of old pics from then. Great memories of the point. Had lots of picnics there. Beautiful scenic view of the rivers. Loved it.
Thanks for sharing
I bought 3 Schwalbe Aerothan tubes and tested one. I only used one and I put it in the front wheel because I figured less weight and wear on the front tire on a bike. But the second 20 mile ride I'm flying down a hill at 50mph and hit a bump, not a pothole, just a small bump, the tire flatted kind of quickly, I was able to slow to a stop rather quick. I pulled the tube out and it looked like a snake bite with the two little holes caused by the rim. I only will use the other two Aerothans for carry spares now so if I flat a latex tube I can throw in the spare get home and take it back out and install a new latex tube. This saves weight as far as what I have to carry but I will never buy any more of these types of tubes. The claims about them are not true and I think these manufacturers should quit making them.
Sounds like a great anecdote after one tube. I've hit train tracks pretty hard at over 200lbs without issue but that's an anecdote too
What is the length of your truck bed?
6.5 feet or around 78-80 inches
@@brianbechtol7329 Thank you sir. Mine too I saw that that bed is 82 inches so I was trying to see if it would fit mine
Very helpful video
Is your truck a long wheel base bed?
I run whatever tube the LBS has and put Stans in it... usually lasts a year or so between flats. when they do flat its because the Stans dried up.
I know exactly where you are. I love that area. We visit it all the time. Those mountains is where the original Smokey Bear got buried. He is buried near by at his museum in Captain.
I like the simplicity, great looking build.
Thanks! I've pared down the equipment list and packing a little lighter since this last video. I may make a new video about it soon. Thanks for watching.
my osd kicked in......... your boots was opposite of what they should of been but your green bottom flip flops was correct.
Haha. Pretty funny. Thanks for watching!
@@brianbechtol7329 Enjoyed watching. alot of these youtubers go all crazy with their set ups, I like the fact that you kept yours simple, uncomplicated. Serves its purpose without all the fancy smanchy ..
What solution did you end up with?
I ended up getting rid of the rim tape and using plastic Veloplugs for the spoke holes. I'm also using Cannondale 29x1.75-2.25 mountain bike tubes from REI with no problems so far.
My wife and I visited here on our honeymoon trip in June 1969. We have a photo taken from the top on the observation platform. Nice memories.
Cool story! Thanks for watching
Appreciate the video…I’ll get one of the bed mats.
Yes sir. Thanks for watching
What are those colored flags that I see van live hippies all have? Looks like laundry hanging.
Those are Tibetan Prayer flags. I received them as a gift. The different colors represent different elements such as air, fire, water, etc. They are supposed to bring good luck as I understand it
I would think there are some really strong under currents where they meet. It is cool they have an area where you can see the confluence. I bet there are a lot of floods. That is to bad about Cario.
I thought it was a pretty neat area to visit. You can tell that they have tried to step up tourism to the area at one time but that has pretty much failed.
Tubes are not the defence for puncture protection. The tire is. Btw I have also gone tubeless on 2/3 bikes. There have been many times where tubeless has failed and it’s the phone call for help. Tubeless gives you a better chance at small spiky objects because of self repair. But it also sprays your bike with sealant, it’s messy. And if your in the field you have to carry sealant, and a plug kit. I’m really mixed on tubeless tbh. Definitely study your tires that’s really where it matters, there is a speed trade off as the casing become puncture resistant. With goat heads, tubeless is good option for sure.
As I mentioned in other replies, the tubeless reviews for this tire are pretty bad. I have worked for 30 years with tubeless tires for automotive applications and without a doubt that technology has been perfected. I cannot say the same for tubeless tires for bikes. People are sometimes too quick to adopt the latest technology that hasn't been perfected yet. Coming from an automotive background it seems ridiculous to me to have a bead that doesn't seal on its own and a liquid sloshing around inside a tire that will eventually dry up and have to be replaced. Give it time and the tubeless technology will improve for bikes. Beads and rims will mate up better and a better self-seal liner material will replace the liquid.
I have over 100k miles on tubeless road tires and I've never carried sealant with me. Just use tubes if you can't get a flat to seal. I got 3-4 flats a month(this is with 1500miles a month) before going tubeless and I get one every 2-3 months now.
@@brianbechtol7329 car tires aren't remotely comparable. The surface area of the bead is enormous and the tread thickness is extremely thick too due to DOT standards and cars not caring as much as people when it comes to tire weight.
Nice setup. Just a question though. The link you provided on the REI Kingdom Cot 3 says that the unfolded dimensions are 82x31.5x14 inches. I have a similar F-150 with a 6 1/2" bed (or 78 inches). Taking those dimensions the cot would not fit in my truck. Does your F-150 have a longer bed or are my missing something? Thanks for the video. Really enjoyed watching it.
Good question. Mine is an REI Kingdom cot 1 (1st gen). The cot has to fit under the lip of the front of the bed where the bed length measures almost 80 inches. When I do this, and shut the tailgate, the cot is an "interference fit" touching on both ends. Those aluminum Coleman cots are shorter but the middle leg interferes with the wheel well.
@@brianbechtol7329 Thank you for your reply.
