@searchkaicromwell i got your point but then how will we optimize product descriptions? I mean it's practically not possible to write 20 different descriptions for one product. Should we use canonical??

@ Yes, canonical is a good solution for this. If you have different colors or sizes for example, you can use the same product description though, just making sure to change the {color} or whatever variant component in the description. Example: The {color 1} sweatshirt .... {next 100 words of description}. The {color 2} sweatshirt .... {next 100 words of description}. These can be the exact same minus the color or size or whatever variant you have, and it will not be considered duplicate content. If you dont' want to do this, canonical is your best bet.

As long as you've named the new/duplicate collection something unique (different from the original), same with the meta title, you'll be fine. Product name will remain consistent in all collections - this is fine.

Too broad of a question to give the best answer I can. Can you give me an example of your collection and the products within the collection? Don't need to share URLs, just basic classifiers like: collection = candles and products = {scent} candle. If you're not comfortable, totally cool. Here are my basic tips: 1. collections should speak broadly to the USPs of the entire collection and your brand. speak to features of the collection and your brand like use cases, free shipping, etc. 2. products are more specific than collections. if you're working on a huge website (50-100+ collections), only optimize the collections and don't even touch the products. seems backwards but it's the best use of your time imo. 3. if you sell hundreds of the same kind of product, just optimize the meta title, product title, and first sentence. Ex. I work with a bedding company that sells the same bedding in hundreds of patterns. Rather than write unique PDPs for each product, we just add keyword to those 3 items - works like a charm and way more efficient.

Here is the situation, the e-commerce site to sell the dates, 1 product page for each type of date (medjool dates, ajwa dates, mabroom dates, safavi dates, etc...), the collection pages are by country (saudi dates, egypt dates, Iran dates etc..., dry or fresh, size (small or medium), and by color (brown, black, golden etc..)

Good question! The same product can exist in multiple collections, so you don't need to worry about duplicate content in that context. As long as you optimize each collection for a different keyword, you'll be completely fine.

Thanks! You need to adjust the code, pretty easy in most themes: Navigate to product-grid-item.liquid, then remove “within: collection“ from the code and the issue will be taken care of. If you can't find this in your theme, a quick Google search for the issue + your theme name will turn up several Shopify forum results with proper instructions

no it doesnt, you can see from the indexing. All the junk pages still get indexed

@@noorabzs how could something be indexed if not crawled? All the junk collection pages get both crawled and indexed even if shopify adds the canonical tags. These are only suggestions to Google, often ignored. Solution is change theme code to remove reference to collections in urls, then either add no index tags or robots.txt directives Robots will stop the crawling, non index tags pages will still be crawled so this is arguably better. Takes some work though, most likely need a dev
