What exactly is controversial here? Max Muller was having no problem to give Vedas a date of 3000BCE, Read his Physical religion. Even comparative linguistic H. Jacoby also proposed the date of 5th millenium BCE. Anthropologist Professor Sergent refers it as Sindhu Saraswati Civilization. All Indian Archaeological reports irrespective of Congress or BJP period mentions the findings of Vedic Fire Altar for Ritualistic purposes on multiple early mature Harappan sites and they have also reportedly to have been found Agni Mandir at Banawali, these are all findings parallelly excavated on the banks of now dried mighty Saraswati river of RigVeda. Swastik - the widely found symbol in IVC is purely non Dravidian thing, there is no word for swastik in Dravidian language. Earliest horse bones in India are from 5th mil BCE. Their north-south orientation Burial practices also do exactly match with that of post Vedic text of Brahmanas. In class 7 NCERT textbooks they teach that Aurangzeb built destroyed temples. When applied under RTI- NCERT i mean JU professors replied back they have no answers to them. I studied history textbooks till 2000. Those books very very delhi centric and more on Islamic rulers. Minimal history on sikhs, marathas, vijayanagar, ahoms or cholas.
