9 views is a shame for this lovely little video.
So you mentioned that you thought someone should take up the black panther mantle. In the movie it was shuri. While I didnt love this choice Im assuming you guys didnt like it too much?
@@pretentiousz I think Iskusell said it in the video and I think we're all in the same boat, but it isn't the choice of Shuri that we didn't like about it. We all agree the studio was put in a hard position because Chadwick passed away during filming. We think it was a mixture of not having Chadwick (who we all loved as T'Challa), not having a super compelling story or villain, and not even having a Black Panther in the movie until the final act that really takes away from the movie. We all love Shuri's character and understood the decision to give her the mantle but we think it was a movie that had too many things going against it and probably could have made some better creative choices to enhance it. The emotional tribute to Chadwick is great and it's easily the best part of the movie, but the rest is pretty forgettable in our opinion
Really enjoyed your channel until you added this Christian guy. Let me know when he is off the channel and I’ll start watching again…
I can't respect anyone who thinks Marvels is worse than Eternals.
😂 We kinda expected to get that kind of reaction to some of our choices. Very few people had nice things to say about the Eternals. We just thought it wasn't as bad as others. But we respect your right to disagree
This is a horrible opinion.
It is worse
@@coopersmith9748 Congrats on being wrong.
@@pretentiousz Congrats on being dumb.
spent way too long justifying why black panther was ranked so high. This is better than number 30 on your list
This is something we meant to say at the top of the video but we want our viewers to give their opinions in the comments like you have done here. Let us know what your rankings would be for 34 through 25. We all had wildly different rankings on these based on preference and how we generally analyze movies differently and we expect people watching to also have wildly differing opinions. But we welcome that and thank you for your input
Man if you’re opinions are so great why don’t you make a spreadsheet for us to judge… what’s your list?
We really would like to know where all of y'all would rank the movies but we can all keep it civil while we do it
But they will make it woke which will make it go broke.😅
@BlueGoblin1 History would probably agree with you, especially considering what they have produced since Endgame. We talk about it a little in our Deadpool & Wolverine review video but there are some rumblings from credible sources that things could be changing for the better. We will believe it when we see it though
I honestly really enjoyed Day One. The movies are so good at marrying their characters to the conflict. It's never just about the monsters, it's always about how the individual people you're following relate to the threat. The horror elements aren't completely about fear, they're also directed at fleshing out individual characters and their motivations and emotions. It was a good move to pan out and show the contrast between a family with a LOT to lose, and to shift over to a character with almost nothing to lose. That's the whole point of the "oversimplified" premise---it really hammers home the difference between this protagonist, and the family from the first movie. I'd really like to see more entries in the series that are focused on unique characters like this (or, even better, I'd like to see John Krasinski tell new stories with this same high-quality relationships between character and conflict).
@@crowmudgeon That's what Krasinski does so well. Without the really human elements to the story, it would be a below average creature feature. You have to get the audience invested in the characters outside of just surviving a tense or life threatening situation
I don't think the book ending would have been better. It would have been a "happy" ending, whereas the movie Chani represents us, the audience and informs us how we should feel about things. There's nothing good coming from the holy war, or any of the things that Paul pursued in the name of revenge. Muddying that message with false happy ending would have clashed.
That's an interesting point. Maybe that's what Villeneuve was going for by altering the original ending. Like we said in the review, it isn't a major gripe, just something that we would have liked to reflect the book. But I suppose if he is planning on adapting Dune: Messiah then the movie ending is probably a better setup for that than the book ending was.
Interesting points. You guys paused this for way too long. Maybe do one full run through and then go over it again?
Thanks for the feedback. This was really the first "reaction" video we had done so we are still feeling it out. I guess from our perspective, the full trailer is always available for people to view on their own so they mainly tune into our reaction to see our thoughts on it. But I think we could certainly shorten the pause length on some of those. Thanks for the constructive criticism and for watching! We really do appreciate it
first view, first like, first comment
i have never had a film engrain itself in my mind like this one. saw it almost a week ago and it is all i cant think about. seeing it again in a couple days and cannot wait. what. a. movie.
I do think these two Dune movies will live on as pinnacles of what book adaptations should be. Right alongside the Lord of the Rings. They may not be there yet in the eyes of a lot of people but when you read the book, then see the movies, you understand how dang good they are!
This was such a great movie!
There's nothing rebellious about this film rebel! if anything it's the opposite. This culture war nonsense is lazy and tired and you need to find a hobby rather than join a mass of useless eternally triggered and peeved manlet army = the neo-SJWs. Who's out there sweeping every interview, article and social media post for anything to get triggered by and outraged over to engage in primitive cancel culture failing campaigns? You guys are the neo-SJWs, the snowflakes, the new peeved blue-haired-nose-ringed-safe-space-demanding-easily-triggered-and-constantly-outraged mob. Whom are we boycotting today? harassing online? trying to cancel? Soy boy Timothee Chalamet? Rachel Zeglar? Travis Kelce? Taylor Swift? Halle Bailey? ChicFilA? what's the latest outrage?
I think if you watched our channel consistently then you would see that we are neither perpetually outraged nor calling for anyone to be "cancelled". We all love Star Wars on here and it's probably the one thing we share in common, entertainment wise, the most so naturally any bigger headlines that pop up, we will discuss it. We all have differing opinions on certain issues so we aren't just spouting what every other content creator is outraged about. We enjoy talking about movies and other entertainment topics, that's basically the short of it. You may not like our opinions but we aren't going to be anything other than ourselves when it comes to stating them. We appreciate the constructive criticism but we would appreciate it if you would look at the entire body of work before judging us on one video. Thank you!
@@FilmRebels It's cancel culture 101; you're just used to being on the other side of it. Remember, everyone who's out to cancel something believe their cause is right and that they're being sensible. Some lady said some stupid stuff a long time ago, you sweep through her history looking for something to cause outrage over (Check). You fan the outrage and make clickbaiting titles (check). You boycott said project unless she gets fired (check). You wanna ruin the career of some lady because of stuff she said that made you mad (check check check). Kathleen Kennedy would've retired a long time ago, but your narratives are getting in the way of that; she's probably the best producer in history and will most definitely have a dignified exit; meaning it won't happen with you making all this noise. I know for a fact she's retiring but they're waiting for the right time; ironically this nonsense is why she's still up there, lol.
@@aishaalamoudi599 That's the great thing about opinions. We're all allowed to have them even if we don't always like someone else's. We're simply giving ours and we support your right to give yours. Take that however you want but we aren't out to "get" anybody. We sincerely hope you have a nice day and we appreciate you viewing our content!
@@FilmRebels cancel culture is cancel culture, it doesn't stop being so when you do it.
If no one trips about Percy being blonde, then Annabeth not being blonde shouldn't be an issue. Though when it comes to Annabeth I'm getting her being more logical and not very sociable which fits a child of Athena. I see Percy as a paladin, Annabeth is a wizard, and Grover is the bard
All valid points. No arguments there
Good job guys. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts!
We appreciate it! Thanks for the feedback!
I find myself getting kinda frustrated with book readers about this show. The show is good. Many refuse to understand that certain things written in the books won't translate on screen, & must be cut down & streamlined for clarity. Heck, the show fixed Uncle Rick's Percy's jump from the St Louis Arc mistake. Im beginning to hate any comment that begins with " but in the book..."
I think those are valid points. But the honest truth of that is that you will never be able to escape the "but in the book" approach because it's a show based off of books, that just comes with the territory. My approach has always been that I want them to stay as true to the books as they can and only change things when it can't be translated properly to screen. Where I tend to get the most frustrated is when they change things that don't need to be changed and it's a worse version or less interesting version than what is in the books. That's where you really have to stick to the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
@FilmRebels there will never be a 100% direct adaptation of any book. Every one that has been too faithful turned out to be boring
I don't think the evidence bears that out. The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, more recent examples like Dune and One Piece. All of those are very widely accepted and loved and they are all extremely faithful to the source material. On the other hand, the Percy Jackson movies and the Eragon movie to name a couple, deviated from the source material quite a bit and basically no one likes those movies
@@FilmRebels Literally none of the things you listed are 1:1 adaptions of the source. LotR was extremely different, I'm not sure how anyone could say it was "extremely faithful". It was well liked and very good, but made countless changes to the books, far more than this Percy Jackson show. Harry Potter was kind of faithful for the first couple movies but certainly not close to 1:1, after that it departed immensely from the books, again much more than the Percy Jackson show is so far, and even in the first couple movies many things were changed. GoT wasn't remotely a 1:1 adaption, season 1 I'd say was about on par with Percy Jackson in terms of how much it changed from the book, after that it was totally different. The new Dune movie also was not 1:1 with the book. One Piece restructured the entire plot. None of these things were necessarily bad, most of the changes they made in these various adaptions worked and made sense, and they maintained most of the tone of the original which is what most people care about. But for some reason with Percy Jackson there's a subset of people complaining about minor shifts that don't impact anything and in some cases improve on the original.
@@QuibbleTrouble Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming any of those were a 1:1 adaptation of the books. I was responding to the claim that anything too faithful to the original is boring. Something can be faithful to the original and not be a 1:1 adaptation. All those I listed were faithful to the source material while also giving us the feel of the books. I agree that all of those things had plenty of changes made but none that detracted significantly from the source material. I will also say, I read Dune recently and then rewatched the movie. They changed very little from the book. It was about as faithful as a movie adaptation can be
I love this series but this show is pretty lame so far mostly because of the writing is pretty poor and some of the acting is cringy and it’s like the book is more fun to read than it is to watch this show you feel me? People will have bias just because it’s a Percy Jackson show but imma be honest if it’s ass it’s ass and so far I mean it’s not like crazy good or anything
I will agree that the books definitely feel more epic and have a nice flow to them. It isn't easy to adapt books to TV or movies but I think if the author is as involved with this show as he is, they should be able to capture that feel. I'm hoping it gets better as it goes but as we said in the video, we have learned not to get our hopes up with Disney these days
If we got accurate characters as described in the books, like white and blonde Annabeth, black-haired Percy, and if the show is not made by Disney, while it still has the exact same plot, would you still consider it ass?
I’m thoroughly enjoying the TV show.
I have been enjoying it for the most part too. I'm trying to temper my expectations but so far it's been good
I think the fandom is expecting too much from this trio. I think season 1 is kinda good to get the series going and i believe season 2 will be much better in terms of pacing and acting.
I would certainly agree that some patience is required in terms of expectations. The acting hasn't bothered me that much. I'm honestly more concerned with how Riordan and the directors handle the portrayal of the characters than I am the acting performances themselves
I disagree with you about Annebeth I love the character in the show, it puts way more emphasis on the fact that she was born from a thought in Athena's head and doesn't think or act as simple-mindedly as other demigods. It's a nice change to the character, not that she is bad in the book but I like that you can tell she wasn't born the same as other demigods before that's even mentioned. Leah is the best of the three acting-wise so far too.
I appreciate the feedback! I can see what you mean by that. Athena's children certainly are the exception when it comes to how they react to things compared to other demigods. We will talk about this more in our next review but that's an issue I took with episode 5. Percy was the one reciting all the Greek mythology when it should have been Annabeth. She always had all the answers to those things in the books and Percy usually knew very little, especially earlier in the books
@@FilmRebels this is true but I think that comes from the changes to Sally Jackson for the show, knowing about the world and telling Percy stories, I don’t think it’s a bad change to be honest, it gives a different perspective without harming the story too much.
@@joshz2491 No I don't think it wrecks the story or anything. I mainly just find it mildly annoying and unnecessary but I can live with it
Very cool discussion! When I was young, I watched 'Halloween' for the first time and felt like Michael Myers was following me for weeks! Dropping you a like!!
That was one that got me pretty good too. It was always the creepy music and the whole way he silently slow walks everywhere. It's like you know you can outrun him, yet when you are somewhere "safe", he's just there waiting on you. Absolutely terrifying
large marge that is all
You just unlocked a memory that I forgot I had. Thanks, but also how dare you lol
Was fun chatting with you all! Especially Samartian👽
I'm just glad Samartian will be his nickname hence forth and forever 😂
We really enjoyed having you on Crow! Thanks for sharing!
As someone who has seen very little Clone Wars and none of Rebels, I thought the series was ok. I never really got that invested in the characters but I enjoyed the fan service. Seeing Hayden back as THIS Anakin was a dream come true and Baylan Skoll was a great new villainous character. RIP Ray Stevenson.
It definitely has some great Star Wars moments in it. I loved to see Hayden back as well and Baylon was the best character for sure. I just wish they had done more justice to the Clone Wars and Rebels characters that we love so much. I would say the only character I thought was mostly good was Ezra, he seemed the most believable to me
Recently, the trades reported that Disney Marvel did not hire show runners for their D+ TV shows and instead had execs running the TV. I don’t think the same issue is there in Star Wars TV, but I imagine corporate meddling has also impacted Star Wars TV (except for Andor, that show feels like they 100% left Gilroy alone)
I think that shows too. You can look at the D+ Marvel shows and see a copy/paste formula there. I would argue you can see the same with the MCU movies as well, with the exception of Guardians Vol. 3 for the same reason you stated with Andor. Gunn had complete creative control, otherwise he said he wouldn't come back for it. You can definitely see more diversity in style with the Star Wars shows, at least from Favreau/Filoni projects to Andor, Visions and the Bad Batch. I would argue all the Favreau/Filoni shows have an aspect of that copy/paste issue
I honestly was fine that it was night sister magik with marrok, kinda impressive. Also I was just glad it wasn’t Ezra that somehow came back through the world between worlds. But also I would’ve been fine if it was star killer, could’ve potentially been cool. Not sure where they would have gone with that storyline tho.
