Idk how I’m just coming across this now, crazy algorithms, but the weather was perfect that day! It was an awesome race!!
Yep! That’s exactly what I’m hearing. We’re doing Waco this year and it starts in the morning!
@@RenaWren That’ll be much better! Good luck!! :)
It started in the afternoon?
@@RenaWren Yes! So odd. I’m thinking it’s because there was a full Ironman just the day before. Maybe they needed extra time to reset the course for our half?
Great video
Awesome video....great insight! Thanks for posting this.
Hi Krisan! Great video! Do you have a coach?
@@parkerkerth8446 Thank you!! We did not have a coach, but we bought a training plan through Training Peaks and did have email support with a coach, though we never really used that. I highly recommended getting a plan through them though!!
You did a great video!!! How’s the course (swim, bike, run)?
Thank you! The swim was really nice and calm. Bike was also a nice course, aside from there being thumb tacks all over the road, which obviously wasn't IRONMAN's fault. Run was definitely more hilly than expected!
Such a good race recap! And you guys are adorable 😊 This was super helpful. Doing my first half and full Ironman this year and there’s just so much I don’t know… so really helpful to hear from others who’ve done it!
@@LiamHaleMcCarty haha thank you! I’m glad we could help. Hope your race goes well!!
Shoot I freak out when long sea weed brushes on my toes while I’m swimming in the lake
Thank you for the video very insightful! Do you remember which TrainingPeaks plan you guys used ?
Thank you! The name of our plan was "Phil's Intermediate Full Distance Triathlon (8 to 14 hrs/wk) + Email Access to Coach". Hope that helps!
Congrats both of you! Enjoyed your recap...it was fun to re-live this a year later as this was my very first full IM race also! Yes the jellyfish were brutal esp across your face, yikes....but the bike was lovely and the run was super fun, esp the turnaround downtown! The one bummer was that nothing was open late and we were starving after the race after waiting for friends to come in as well and then that walk to pick everything up was SO tiring too. That's great you were able to sleep so well that night; I struggled to sleep at first, but finally caught a few hours. Did you hear about the crazy swim this year?!? Take care and enjoy the journey! ~Megan
Hi what road bikes do y'all use?
I use a trek road bike (I believe a 2014 or 2015 model), and my husband used a Fuji road bike, which is a 2012 model I think. Nothing special at all. I got mine used off of craigslist a few years ago, actually. 😄 They held up just fine though!!
thank you! awesome triathlon videos@@krisannblanchard
@@thekhan9 Thank you! Appreciate it!
Congratulations. I cannot believe this video hasn’t gotten more traction. This is an excellent race recap. Well done.
Thank you so much! Appreciate it!
Awesome video thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
Congrats! Nice review, crazy story about the jellyfish, not sure I could handle getting stung. Curious as to what plan did you used on training peaks, it seems that you were well prepared for your first full. Thinking of stepping up to a full next year.
Thank you!! The Jellyfish were crazy, but honestly not as bad as I was afraid of thankfully! 😅 The plan we used was called "Phil's Intermediate IRONMAN® 140.6 (8-14 hrs/wk) + Email Access to Coach: 24 Weeks". It was a great plan, I highly recommend! You can also find other plans by the same coach (Phil Mosley) with different training lengths if you're wanting to train for longer than 24 weeks! 👍
Ironman New Zealand is a deep water start, all 1000 competitors start together....first time is freaky...
Geeees! That sounds pretty stressful! Lol
Congratulations!!! I’m doing Waco 70.3 this weekend. And I was wondering did they have changing tents? Or is it only porta potty?
How exciting!! I'm jealous! Good luck! They didn't have changing tents in Waco, just porta potties!
Another thing you might want to keep in mind with the later start, depending on your expected timings, wouldn't be a bad thing to have a headlamp for your run.
@@krisannblanchard thank you!
@@DavidC-rt3or thank you!
@@DavidC-rt3or Definitely!! It was pitch dark in a few spots when we raced the course and I was wishing we would've had headlamps!
Congrats!! Little bummed to hear about the swim there, as it looks like the 70.3 Eagleman swim is there also (which is one I'd kind of like to do).. I've virtually ridden part of or all of the bike course in training for 70.3 Galveston or indoor riding a number of times. Even had set it purposely with a head wind for the last half to mentally prep for a slow grind back (which it ended up being in Galveston)
Honestly I was super nervous about the jellyfish, but they really weren't that bad! The only stings that really hurt were the ones straight to the face, but the stinging never lasted long!😅 Like I said in the video, the jellyfish wouldn't stop me from doing the course again! That's smart to set it with a head wind!! How was the Galveston race? We're thinking about signing up for the 70.3 there this spring.
@@krisannblanchard Never having been stung by one before, would hate to find out then I'm allergic would be the main concern. Galveston went well (for me) pretty much according to plan. Swim being in brackish water and was a little choppy but not too bad. Bike being totally flat and can be very much a pacing/mental game. Typically, tailwind in one direction (likely on the way out) so not overdoing/pacing needed, then headwind for the ~28miles to get back (mental slow grind). The run with all of the turns doesn't seem like one for pr'ing the run, but for spectators get to see the athletes at least 3 or more times (depending on where they are situated). Other thing is, it could be cold, it could be hot and/or extremely humid. Depending on the weather for the day, I'd say it is easier than Waco. But if it's windy could be pretty brutal even being flat.
@@DavidC-rt3or Awesome, this is all super helpful! Thank you! I was a little worried about the wind in Maryland with it being so flat, but luckily it wasn't too bad! We're trying to get my brother to sign up for Galveston for his first race, so we will see! 😄
@@krisannblanchard fyi, Fulgaz has 70.3 Texas course (can set wind directions) or if you want to re-live Waco it's there too 🙂. Riding in Galveston now (virtually) 😂
Great videos....thank you 😍 Highly recommend a tow float for training, keeps your car key safe whilst you're in the water too! Looking forward to hearing how your race went 💪🏻😊
We ended up getting a couple after this video and they were game changers!! Filming a video this week on how the race went, so it'll be up soon! We finished and it was such a cool experience! 😃
so any update/video on how the Ironman race went?
Yes! Video coming this week… we finished and it was such a cool experience!! 😊
Awesome video guys! What were the rules on wetsuits?
Thank you!! I can't remember what the water temperature was, but if it is 76.1 degrees Fahrenheit or below, it classifies the race as wetsuit legal. This means anyone can wear a wetsuit and still place or qualify for other races! If it's above 76.1, the wetsuits are optional. In this case, you can still wear a wetsuit if you'd like, but if you do, you won't be able to place in your age group or qualify for any other races if that's your goal. In wetsuit optional races, the athletes that choose not to wear one also start first and everyone who is wearing one follows. Does that make sense? We didn't wear wetsuits during this race because we didn't own them and we did fine, but we recently wore them in our first full ironman and they do make a big difference!
Awesome! Thank you for that info
@@lit2050 Anytime!!
well done! that is exciting and an amazing journey !
Thank you! We're signed up for a full ironman coming up in just under 2 months... hoping for the best! :)
Not sure if you both have swim bouys (didn’t see them in the video). They make you much more visible in open water swims and also can be used as a flotation device when a break is needed. Great video though👍. Looking forward to seeing more IM training in the coming weeks.
We do not! But I have been meaning to get some… the good thing about that lake is there are no motorized boats allowed, so we didn’t have to worry about that. I’ll have to get a couple to use on our next swim though. We’ll feel a lot more comfortable and safer! 😅 Thanks for the tip!!
Great vlog!! Thanks for sharing girl! 😁
Thank you!😊
Congrats! That’s crazy about the tacks. That’s such bs. I did Augusta last year. Great time
I know, it was so frustrating! But at least we finished! Lol, we went to watch our friends do their first 70.3 in Lubbock over the weekend and it looked like a good course! The wind was just insane. Augusta looks awesome!! Any plans to do another?
@@krisannblanchard I’m an ultra runner so that takes up most of my time but I’d like to do Augusta again in 2023. Maybe it’s an every other year event for me.
@@josephsantangelo2801 that's awesome! My husband would love to do an ultra marathon after our ironman in September. Good luck to you on your future races!
Waco 70.3 was my very first Ironman as well!! Here is my recap: The swim...was good but scary haha, at one point I thought I was going to drown, had one person try swimming over me. I had SO much anxiety going into the bike and the fear of blowing a tire. I passed probably 25+ people on the side fixing tires....it was a MIRACLE that it did not happen to me because I am so slow with changing them haha! The wind was BRUTAL, especially around mile 40 for me. The wind actually blew both of my bottles off my bike, and I went 12 miles with no hydration. I entered the run with completely fresh legs, however my stomach was so sick (assuming from the lack of water etc). I had to walk about 5 of the miles, every time I jogged I almost threw up. Definitely a learning experience, learned a lot about how important nutrition is! I am not a fan of the noon start time, right in the heat of the day and finish late at night in the dark. Excited for my next one in April!
Omg! Sounds like we had some pretty similar experiences! Lol, the swim was totally fine for me, but my husband felt just like you! He did not enjoy that part at all. We also passed SO many people with bike issues on the side of the road, and I kept crossing my fingers hoping it wouldn't happen to us... then of course we had alllll the issues. 😅 If it weren't for my husband, I would've been out of the race because I'm terrible at changing tires! But yes, the wind was BRUTAL! And I felt like throwing up too the last 15 or so miles on the bike and the entire run, I think because I over did it on drinking water! I agree, the noon start time was so weird and I wasn't a fan either. We're training for our first full now that's coming up in September... I'll be documenting that experience as well! Good luck on your next race!!
Awesome video. I’ve heard of couples doing a triathlon together but most don’t see each other until after the race, you two actually did it together/side by side! Adorable. Congratulations 👍💪
Thank you!! Avery could've passed me on the run, but he would not leave my side! Lol it was such a fun race to do together. :)
Awesome ... congrats
Thank you!!
I like the custom shirt. Best of luck with the business.

Congrats! Sounds like I was about 1/2 hour or so behind you (didn't know why but did see a swimmer getting assistance before the first turn).. agree the wind on the way to t2 wasn't fun, and for me neither was the heat index of ~90 degrees for the start of the run (first time running at night too, was glad to have a headlight).. now in the last weeks before 70.3 TX :)
We didn't even think to bring a headlight and regretted it on those dark stretches during the run! The glow sticks they gave out didn't help much, haha! Good luck in Galveston! My husband is from that area originally. It'll be a great race! We're signed up for our first full ironman this fall. We've got a lot of work to do over the next few months! 😅
@@krisannblanchard it's been a journey. Did my first 70.3 in 2018.. started 70.3 TX in 2019 and was in the last miles of finishing the bike when the storm hit and it was cancelled.. Did the ramp training for it in 2020 and about 2 weeks before postponed to Nov (Covid) only to ramp again and late Wed before it was postponed again, so that's when I deferred to Waco 🥴 Good luck on the full!
@@DavidC-rt3or Sheesh!! Sounds frustrating! Glad you were finally able to do it again though! Lol thank you! 😊
Keep up the great work. The secret to ranking > Promo`SM!!!
Looking forward to seeing your next video with tips! Nice job on the race! I live in the area where the bike portion was completed and I had heard somebody dumped tacks, so inconsiderate and dangerous. That individual definitely doesn’t represent the rest of us!
Thank you!! 😊 We do love Waco!
This is great! Thank you for sharing your experience!!
