Walter Gigandet (Man of the Woods)
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 มิ.ย. 2018
I don't just teach wilderness skills, I have lived and used them for over thirty years. My birth name, Walter, means man of the woods. It is a fitting name, because I have been an avid outdoors man and wilderness teacher for most of my life. I began building primitive shelters in my early teens on the family farm. Thirty years ago, I began to seriously study authentic Native American and wilderness skills through,Tracker School. That lead to further opportunities, and I began teaching at The Children of the Earth Foundation, in New Jersey. I was also fortunate to teach the Native Americans in Texas, and afterwards began running week long skills gatherings in New York, called Moccasin Meet. Most recently, I taught a full time wilderness school to mentor serious students that wanted to live with me and learn the knowledge of Native skills and how to live close to the earth. My hope is that you will find how much fun it is to get outdoors and practice these skills.

How to Make Your Own Bone Belt Buckle and Plaited Buckskin Belt
Terrific tutorial and tips, thank you! This vid is going into my downloads library for off-line watching and future guidance. So pleased that I found your channel. Best regards.
The tip on kneeling to cut down the sapling safely made watching this video worthwhile.
Is this better than Kevlar?
It’s refreshing to see people go out in the woods and just be Boy Scouts. It gets old seeing people who are green beret or reenacting being frontiersmen or mountaineers. 2:21
Thank you, Walter, for that great tutorial. A knapped bottom like that could be anything from a decoration to, as in your case, a practical tool. I was wondering how you made the "knocks" at the base on the clear glass point? Is it the same technique as when you made the edges till the nail tool?
Awesome! Thank you!
Merci l'artiste Ton frère de l'algérie
I’ve watched the Apache bow makers. Their traditional bows are about 3’, for speed shooting off a horse, they could get about 15 arrows a minute. They killed game and humans with them.
Hello friend, how are you? Greetings friend, I have a question for you. Is oak wood good for making bows or what type of wood do you recommend for making a bow?
Thank you I'm gonna be a cowgirl for Halloween and came across this video
Hello, greetings from Colombia, I want to ask you something, my friend Walter, what kind of wood did you use for your bow?
Great instruction. How do you determine the belly if there is a curve in the wood?
Great video! So am I right in saying you cut into the belly side of the bow, and take minimal wood out of the back of the bow and just shave it?

You’re a young fella! I’m approaching 80. I’ve been using the exact same knife for 50 years. It’s the Field Master, model
It's great to see you doing well, Walter. I found you through your Lasso demonstration.
Hi Walter, I use a bowline knot for the top loop when making a bowstring. No more Flemish twisting the line to make a knot. The bowline hasn’t slipped yet.
You are amazing......you make it all seem so effortless. James
I use the bowline knot for the top loop on my bowstrings. Never a problem!!
Mate here I am thinking I need clamps, tuners, glues, ark of the covenant to make a little bow. Your styles way more aligned with nature anyway, Fantastico monsieur
Hi Walter, Could I use a bowline knot on the upper loop of a bowstring instead of a lariat knot?
What rope did you use???😅
That axe must be sharp.
That’s so rad!
So glad I found your channel, lots of good info
Awesome. How much draw weight would you guess at? I'm making my own bow right now of some oak. So far so good. I kept my tips a little wide because I was worried about the strength of the wood, are wide tips a detriment? The limbs are 1 1/2" and the tips taper down to 1 inch
Спасибо!
Wow! I’ve always been too intimidated to make my own bow but have always been fascinated by them. Now that you’ve shown how easy it can be I’ll be trying my own this weekend! Cheers 🥃
