New shop axe
Someone who no longer had a use for this axe head gave it to as they knew I would put it to good use. I had been meaning to make an axe specifically for the shop instead of using one of my hiking axes, so I decided now was the time. I matched it with a shorter handle that was wider than the ones I usually use, and the fit was great. It's going to get a lot of use in the coming months as fall has arrived and I'll be lighting fires in the shop soon.

Leather knife #2
มุมมอง 321วันที่ผ่านมา
Using some off-cuts of some previously worked knives, I decided to make myself another knife to use in my leather work (although I suspect it would work for whittling as well). The steel is from Sheffield, England, and the wood is another off cut; mahogany. Fun little project that ended up working well.
Double bit throwing axe
มุมมอง 1.1K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
This project started some time ago and is my second attempt at making something different from a full size, double bit axe head. As I already have two of them hanging on my wall in my shop, the idea was to split them in half and see if I could make them into tomahawks. This is the first one I've completed.
Antique screwdriver restoration
มุมมอง 54621 วันที่ผ่านมา
A quick restoration of an antique screwdriver so it can be added to my bench's set up.
Axes Galore
มุมมอง 48หลายเดือนก่อน
Just a quick video showing how many axes projects are being worked on, or coming up. It's been a busy week and weekend, but back to full length videos next weekend!
Froe restoration
มุมมอง 574หลายเดือนก่อน
Restoration of a froe that was given to me by someone who no longer had a use for it. Found a maker's mark on it when cleaning it up, but have been unable to identify it as of yet. Used an old fence pole to turn a handle. I'm happy with the results!
Vintage socket set
มุมมอง 3.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Just a quick video showing the restoration of an old, wall mounted socket set that was passed on to me some time ago by a widow emptying our her late husband's workshop. The ratchet system is broken, and as I don't have a welder, I chose not to open it as I wouldn't be able to weld it back shut.
Spike from Nova Scotian breakwater
มุมมอง 338หลายเดือนก่อน
This spike was salvaged from a very old breakwater on a Nova Scotian property that's been in the family for 40 years. As the sun and water have broken it down over the years, I wanted to preserve a part of it before it disappears forever. I decided to create a type of shadow box so I could hang it in my shop.
Custom Desk organizer/drawer system
มุมมอง 7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In need of some organization on the antique architect table that I use as a desk, I created a drawer system (reminiscent of a roll top desk) out of some vintage, steel card sorting drawers picked up from a local, and some salvaged boards from the shed my neighbour had to tear down earlier this year. To finish off the interior, I add some drawers salvaged from an old, Singer sewing machine table...
Hammer Wall Hanging
มุมมอง 2162 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the second wall hanging that I've created to display tools that I love aesthetically. Instead of having them shut away in a drawer, I use them to decorate my shop. it's a pretty simple thing to do. Here's a quick video showing how I went about it.
New Splitting axe
มุมมอง 2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Video showing how I take a donated axe head and turn it into my new shop splitting axe that I'll use to prep/split my wood for my wood burning stove in the winter. My thanks to Brian for the donation of the axe head!
Wood stove bench part 2
มุมมอง 5702 หลายเดือนก่อน
Part 2 of building the bench to put by the wood stove in my shop. It's become a great addition and has allowed more people to gather around the fire.
Wood stove bench - part1
มุมมอง 4842 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the things that I love to do in the shop in the winter is roast marshmallows in the wood burning stove once in a while. It's the most fun when kids gather around and compare their technique and results. In order to have a better gathering area, I decided to build a wood bench to accompany the vintage stools that I use (they cam with the house). I took my inspiration from an antique bench...
Leather knife (inspired by Viktor George)
มุมมอง 2.2K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
I was watching Viktor George's video ", Discover the Hidden Techniques of Leather Crafting Ep 1" (th-cam.com/video/S_zfoBkQhi8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rh6fzcXdRdI 0ER) where he explained how when he was starting out he had to make his own tools. He took an old scraper and made it into a knife for cutting leather. I decided I wanted to try it. Here's my go at it.

Pickaroon made out of Sven's axe offcut!
Good job refurbishing. Thumbs up & I subscribed, Cheers !
@@ronsbeerreviewstools4361 Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback!
That was a nice, simple restoration. Good job on the video also. Take care, Ed
@@edconway9072 thank you!!!
I loved watching your fabrication process The end result was fantastic Especially liked the burnishing dowel in your lathe idea 🙌
Love the shape of the handle and thoroughly enjoyed the process We have a community wood hobby shop in our small town and I might have just been inspired to make something Thanks!!
@@viktorgeorge9144 that’s the best kind of feedback you can ever expect! Thank you! Feel free to ask questions if you think I can help!
@@Reclaimatt Thanks I appreciate that
That was a decent restoration!
Interesting, not sure about the shape of the blade; does it throw well? You might want to use some of the cool sharping - honing tools on your chisels ; {) Good video except during the initial chisel work on the handle, view was blocked by your hands and chisel handle. keep working on things and you will get more views. 👍Ed
I agree on the chisel angle. Learning as I go!😉
@@edconway9072 I haven’t had a chance to throw it yet. Made it for next time I go to my friends cabin; they have a target set up there.
I Have old one Red From Australia
@@angelaturra74 very cool; I don’t think I’ve seen a red one yet.
Nice work
Well done, both video and restoration. Ed
First time that I have seen you as well. My only critique is that the majority of the action occurs in the bottom third of the frame and some is even out of frame. you could either point the camera down more or move the action farther down the bench to put it in mid-frame. This is not to denigrate you video but just a suggestion on improving it for next time. I subscribed to give you a boost. I'll be watching for your next project. Ed
Hi Ed! First off, thank you for the feedback!! That kind of input is always valuable and I appreciate your taking the time. I suspected that I might need to do a better job with my camera placement, but didn’t realize it was so predominant. Hopefully the changes will appear in a few videos from now (already have a few in the can). Thanks again, and I appreciate the support!!!
First video of yours that I've seen. I like your production style. Nice socket set!
Nice haul. I like the Montreal pattern and that's awesome to find a kukiri!
Thanks! It’s actually my second. I came across one just over 20 years ago. Re-handled that one maybe 3 years ago and my friend uses it right now. Just missed out on buying a couple more!
That turned out nice and is just right for that area.
Thank you! I modelled it after an attic on my parents house. Soon it’ll be time to start lighting fires again.
How in the world did I miss your channel Thank you so much my friend I thoroughly enjoyed watching your skills in action and I just subscribed 🙌🙌 Beautiful workmanship
Thank you so much for the kind words! I have two upcoming projects inspired by your tips; a quarter moon and half moon leather knife. Thanks for the videos!!!!
Looks like a nice rafting pattern to me. Possibly an unstamped Collins. Should make a great splitter for the shop 👍
Fantastic! Hey, thanks for the info. I hadn’t thought about looking it up. Will follow up on that. Looks like you have some nice videos. Will check them out.
Gostei 😊
What is the spike used for?
It held some of the beams that created a breakwater on a Nova Scotian shoreline. The breakwater is falling apart now, but was built around 75 years ago. The pictures in the frame at the end show what’s left today.
Bravo ❤
Nice !
Nice sensitive resto work, very jealous of that workshop 👍👍
What is it used for?
It’s used to manipulate large wood pieces in to place. Handy when you’re processing wood for fires, or trying to get a piece in a certain position for cutting.
@@Reclaimatt ok, thanks
Awesome vid Matt! I hadn't thought of just making a pickaroon out of an old axe head. Been wanting one for some time now.
Dude! I’ve been meaning to write back for some time. I came across your messenger message a couple of weeks back and realized I hadn’t replied to you! Will send a more comprehensive reply later, but wanted to say a quick hello. Talk to you soon. And thanks for the comment!
@@Reclaimatt yeah man! No worries :)
Awesome Matt !❤
You should talk ! What are you painting on the axe ? Anything special ?
Ok, I may start doing that in later videos; thanks for the feedback!. It’s a blueing solution that helps prevent the steel from rusting. I followed it up with an oil to help preserve as well later on in the video.
Thunk… satisfying
Lol! Yup! Thx!
allright 👍
