Old Homestead Records
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 มิ.ย. 2009
Old Homestead Records was founded in 1971 by John Morris in Brighton, Michigan as a passion project built around his love of traditional and old time bluegrass music. John started the Old Homestead record label as a means to distribute old and newly recorded material from his friend Wade Mainer, a country music star of the 1930s. The record label would grow throughout the next couple decades as a platform for the preservation, history and distribution of bluegrass, country and old-timey music. Notably, the Old Homestead Record company would be recognized as a major source of pre-War and early recordings that would likely have been lost to time had Morris not sought to find, preserve and re-issue works from artists like Bradley Kincaid, Uncle Dave Macon, Molly O’Day and many others. Along with contemporary recording artists of the 70's and 80's like Larry Sparks, Rual Yarbrough & the Dixiemen, Charlie Sizemore, Delia Bell and Bill Grant, Warrior River Boys, Charlie Moore and Doc Watson.
Larry Sparks (1974) - Long Journey Home
Another classic bluegrass staple, this version of Long Journey Home is one of the best tunes on Old Homestead 90041's "The Lonesome Sounds of Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers."
With Wendy Miller, Mike Lilly, Dave Evans as his new banjo player and Joe Meadows on fiddle, this record is the perfect combination of Sparks' iconic sound combined with some of the best bluegrass musicians at a peak performing time of their careers.

Orange Blossom Special - Joe Meadows feat. Larry Sparks & the Lonesome Ramblers [1974]
มุมมอง 1865 ปีที่แล้ว
Joe jumped on to the bluegrass stage and into infamy as an eighteen-year-old playing on the Stanley Brothers’ iconic version of Erwin Rouse’s Orange Blossom Special, which they recorded for Mercury Records. While it is hard to say anything could have improved upon that 1955 performance, it is equally hard to say his version on Old Homestead with Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers did not. T...

Charlie Moore - My Christmas Dream
มุมมอง 5106 ปีที่แล้ว
Merry Christmas from Old Homestead. Here's a classic holiday tune from the legendary Charlie Moore, "My Christmas Dream." Originally appearing as the b-side to Moore's "Wheeling" single OHS-5041, sometime in late 1976/early 1977. Moore's Christmas Dream was to be with his love, but he was left with just memories as he stared out the window.

David Davis & the Warrior River Boys - Bluegrass Twist (LIVE 1990)
มุมมอง 4486 ปีที่แล้ว
It is hard to think of any band that deserves success more than David Davis and the Warrior River Boys. We have been proud to know David for coming on thirty years. They came out of the neo-traditionalist movement of the 80s spearheaded by groups such as the Johnson Mountain Boys. Those who saw them back in the late 80s can testify that there was nobody like them and we continue to be so proud ...
Charlie Sizemore Band - Gravel Road (1988)
มุมมอง 8116 ปีที่แล้ว
Charlie Sizemore was lead vocalist for Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys in the 70's and 80's replacing Keith Whitley. "Gravel Road" is the first track and title track for The Charlie Sizemore Band's first album with Old Homestead's Rutabaga Records after leaving the Clinch Mountain Boys. Released in 1988, this track is the perfect example of Sizemore's eloquent blend of vocals and instrumen...
Delia Bell and Bill Grant - Violet and the Rose
มุมมอง 2.2K6 ปีที่แล้ว
It was with great sadness that we learned news of Delia Bell's recent passing. We are so fortunate that she and Bill Grant graced us with their presence on Old Homestead, much less that they recorded nine wonderful albums for us and let us reissue five of their self-produced albums from the 70's. Delia Bell and Bill were such a joy to work with, and we loved having them at the Charlotte Bluegra...
One Step More (1972) - Clyde Moody
มุมมอง 3456 ปีที่แล้ว
We have been fortunate through the years to be able to record some country music legends. One of whom we are most proud, is Clyde Moody. His first album for us, Moody’s Blues (OHS90013) in 1972 has always been one of our favorite items in the Old Homestead catalog. We were able to show Clyde in many different ways and lights, both familiar and unfamiliar. No matter what setting you put him in, ...

83歳!!!!
Mac is our favourite blue grass singer
The Dude. Larry makes dying cool.
I wish I would have known Wade and JE when I was younger. I learned a few years ago that their Mother was my Great Grandfather's sister on my Dad's side. I did meet JE Jr. In 2012 the day after his Dad was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall Of Fame. We had a good visit and played our guitars a little. There is a great book about Wade. The title is Banjo on the Mountain Wade Mainer's first 100 years. A book worth reading.
Love Mac Wiseman! And all his wonderful songs and music!❤️❤️
Thanks for this, i know lots of people that appreciate it.
Old Shep the dog was a song we sang seventy years ago.
First time hearing the wreak of 97 in over 70 years. Old She was .my requests,Shep !
Her sister Anita is definitely singing high harmony on the chorus ! The best ! Love Helen!
No, that is Helen over-dubbing the high part. Anita does not appear on this album.
The harmony is actually Helen overdubbing the harmony. I am the bass singer you hear on chorus. Thanks for listening; John Morris
Absolutely Awesome
That's awesome!!
The Father of Bluegrass music, Bill Monroe. He was an incredible musician. I was fortunate to have seen him in 1981 &1982 at the KFC Bluegrass Music Festival in Louisville. I met him in Draffenville, KY. at the KY Opry in February 1993. Great memories hearing him play.
That is awesome
0:55 song starts
Love this
He has a great voice!
Great version!
I really love this music and I really love the music the guy who's singing it and I write songs too Forever from a teen we lived in Virginia
Love this
Awesome music .. Gary was a very close friend , we were from the same small town, Harts Creek Wv .. RIP my dear friend
priceless
I love to hear ju
Bill Monroe takes a full solo on Jerusalem Ridge!. You had to see a lot of shows to see him take solos on some tunes like this. Great video. (I remember being so excited when Monroe took a solo on Muleskinner once. Although the sound is not great here, you can hear some small accents here and there and phrase differences similar to the way the band played at the time (walk down chords a`la Southern Flavor). Also Robert Bowlin puts some blues notes in his solo.
The worlds finest and creator of Bluegrass-the master Bill Monroe.
I love this so g
Nice background video with an actual nice stylus!
These two are good together
He used to sing this song on my grandma’s front porch
Wow. I love the song/singing/playing
Do know where Wade and Julia attended church? I know his nephew was a Freewill Baptist Pastor. Just curious, I love the history that these people lived. ❤
ギターを弾くビルは初めて見ました。グッドです。😊
A million thanks for posting. This is, far and away, the most candid film that I've ever seen of Mr. Monroe.
I feel this music in my blood because it's there!
🙏👌🙌🤝♥️♥️ excelente músicos Wade y Julia 🔥🙏💯
I always like Ruals picking!
He’s playing the elusive third part here! It’s the middle section that it seems like maybe only Bill plays.
John "Coffey" (correct spelling)
That banjo is kickin ass on many levels
Ha, I’ll second that.
My favorite BG instrumental.
Nice song
This is my kind of music
Not.. lousy.damm good.. .id.Say👍🏽i love it !*****
I like it. I like it a lot!
Can’t sit down
Get billy strings next year
Billy strings was two years old here
Nice to hear a full set from Mac, but the band here is pretty lousy.
They have a very down home authentic sound that goes well with Mac's old timey voice.
I love this!❤ my home…🥰🙌🏼✝️❤️🙏🏼

Hey what do you have on John Hunley? That’s my uncle. He recorded down in Harlan county, The Kentuckians and Nolan Faulkner’s album I believe.
The veritably true FATHER OF BLUEGRASS in person!
My step-dad, Rual Yarbrough. Miss him.
