A regular Canadian grain farmer sharing my story
Running Massey combines and a long list of other older equipment to farm my 2000 acre grain farm
Farming along the Alberta badlands
I might even throw in a dad joke once in a while

I needed some ❤️ repairs!!
So I had a thing done on Friday!
I’ve known for about 4 months that I had a 100% blocked artery in my heart❤️
Thankfully I’ve been pretty active my whole life so my heart adapted and created collaterals which are small veins through the heart
So no heart attack
Only when I walked far enough or got overtired did I notice the pain and tightness in the centre of my chest
It was my heart telling me that it couldn’t keep up!
So I went into my Dr. and requested a stress test and with my family history she agreed it was a good idea
In May I went to Red Deer
4 minutes on the treadmill hooked up to the monitor the nurse told me to stop
She knew something was wrong and called in the cardiologist and he sent me for an angiogram which showed without a doubt I needed surgery and not a stent
I waited about 3 months for surgery and everyone at Foothills hospital cardiac unit has been great along with my amazing wife Paula!
I had a less invasive surgery so should be healthy by Agri-Trade Equipment Expo and looking forward to seeing everyone again🤞
Be your own advocate at your Dr!
If a piece of machinery doesn’t seem right on the farm you get it checked out so you don’t make a bigger mess of things
It’s the same with your health
I’m feeling good and very thankful to all the friends and family that have reached out❤️

Good luck John! and best wishes for a great recovery!
Speedy recovery.
@@daisy6191 Thanks, I’m feeling pretty good
Thanks for the great vid’s. Hope you have an easy recovery . You’ll be even more dangerous when better 😂
Didn't realize from Twitter X that you were having surgery. Best of luck to you on Friday!!! 🤞
@@traceybriggs5830 I’ve already had surgery this is a video I made last week and just wanted to get it uploaded. Everything went good.
Hope all went well, and have a speedy recovery!
Good luck and best wishes for a great recovery.
Good luck with your surgery
Watching from Loring Montana! Great harvest and great videos!
@@kylewasson7649 thanks!
Thank you for all of your videos John! When I farmed in North Central Montana, I harvested with an MF 8590 and later an 8570. I went to Trochu Motors in Alberta a few times for parts. I am retired now, but especially miss seeding and harvesting. Your videos help fill that void.
@@colleengrass3160 that’s pretty cool. Trochu motors is a great Agco dealer. Thanks for watching!
My name is Terry. I didn’t realize my comments were putting my wife’s name on them.
Those bigger combines make one heck of a difference, im from Acadia Valley area and we’ve been running a 7120 Case since 2014, went from a 1660 so that was a massive change. I picked up a 2188 to replace the 1660 this year because we do run both when we can and holy cow what a difference that made, twice the combine of the 1660, mowed off alot more acres in a way shorter period of time. The 7120 is still definitely the big horse but that 2188 can put through some bushels. Love the videos
@@bradenconway9066 Thanks Braden👍
Torrington Ab Hi John!
@@davidpark4326 that’s close!😁
Hi from Regina SK retired truck driver! Enjoy your videos! FYI there is a combine with the flag decal South of Davidson sk for sale!
@@lindabobkelly2124Thanks for watching. Would be cool to have another one😁
Good day Good to see a few MFs getting the job done Have a MF 9540 with 9250 header...12 years old this harvest no major bearings done just change the in fill auger uni every 2 year and Good to go If they painted them green and yellow wheels they would have sold thousands of them....very well made simple machines Good luck
Thank you for taking us along this harvest.
Just your capital city, Edmonton. I bet it's a relief to have it all in the bin.🙂
Ahhh I see Nice.... Looks like you run a nice tidy operation n Awesome to see....😊

Congratulations on finishing harvest I was out last week in the lloydminster area helped my brother in law and nephew finish. Always a satisfying feeling
Awesome, thanks
See you next your video
Were out by Garret. South of the 27 and the ground here is still went aftwr all that rain, canola straw is green in a lot of places but canola is dry
How’s the yields and grade? Straight cut this year has 10% sprouts , decent yield tho
@@ErVan_AG yields are below average but good quality so far. I have heard sprouts are bad north of me a bit

Surely it's not copyrighted by TH-cam, right?@@kowalchukfarms 😁
I should have had patience 😂
What moisture percentage do you aim to store at.
@@willwilson3024 14.5% is what we aim for. It’s what the elevators require for dry
What kind of combine is that with the Canada flag on it?
@@jasonwoods3384 it’s a 2012 Massey Ferguson 9560
@@kowalchukfarms ok thanks
Good eye John
How have your yields been running, 70% of average? Higher than that? Lower?
@@lloydzilinski4401 Close to average so far. A bit of a surprise after the July heat we had
@@kowalchukfarms Well, that's a bit of good news anyway.
My 9790 has a spindle of a Claas combine on one side. Now I know why.
I like the Maple Leaf on the side combine.
Cool shots!!
Those 82 & 80 Series 4 WD tractors are awesome tractors. Worked at a Versatile & New Holland dealership in Southern Manitoba in the Service Dept for many years and we sold a pile of 80 & 82 series tractors! Good videos, thanks!
If I didn’t know better I would say You most of your iron at the Dealership where I worked as after New Holland we became a Massey & Hesston dealer and Kubota as well. Too bad they don’t make Massey combines anymore! I don’t think it’s a smart move on AGCO or anyone’s behalf!
Happy Harvest! I enjoy your videos. Our last name is also Kowalchuk, we farm out of Hafford Sask and the farm was established in 1909.
@@travisreneekowalchuk696 awesome, nice to hear from you. I’m in Saskatoon right now to watch my daughter play some university softball!

Always enjoyable 😉 to watch you work your farm 🚜
@@GaryCSchade thank you. I enjoy sharing what I do😁
We have 5 8780 xp . 87 and 97 series massey combines some of the most reliable combines ever built IMO. That good Canadian White technology.
Were you guys moving your machines out by hesketh the other day? Thought I seen 3 older masseys likes yours go by the other day
@@damonens9478 wasn’t me. We were going that day though
@kowalchukfarms I am probably wrong. Def recognize the newer machine tho, seen it hauling wheat to grains connect. I work in swalwell on a farm so it's neat to see local guys on TH-cam!
Those massey’s are good combines, the honeybee headers in my experience have something to be desired though. Ran a case 8120 with honeybee and same combine with macdon and the macdon was leaps and bounds ahead of the honeybee for feeding
@@bradenconway9066 the Macdon’s are better for sure. the HoneyBee is still a step up from anything I had before though
could watch those masseys all day look forward to more harvesting
@@petergardner2334 thanks
8:50 beautiful

Nature gave us a thunder and lightning show last night John. Do you keep a percentage of the seed for planting again? Good work on the drone showing the depth of the fields
@@DennisCambly not in canola. I buy new seed every year
I see more farmers are straight cutting canola, have the varieties become more shatter proof? Nice video thanks and hope you all have a prosperous year. Hi from Saskatchewan 👋
Yes. Lots of good pod shatter varieties
Have a good and safe week
Crazy question ? Who is your servicing dealer for your combines
Trochu Motors. They are a great Agco dealer!
@@kowalchukfarms is jack and his son still running the dealership ??
@@crazykiwican Yes they are!

Why did she give it to the aunts if he bought it and worked it forever?
