You should have show exactly what you mean.
I guess that would’ve been helpful
Thank you. I just ran across someone selling these seeds and I was so tempted. But it looked too good to be true so I thought I’d check it out and I found your video. So thanks for saving me the money and disappointment
Glad we could help! If you like Japanese maples though, there are a lot of varieties with naturally vibrant colors on the foliage or bark. Sango Kaku and Bihou are my personal faves, and there’s Taylor and Geishas Gone Wild the have pink in the leaves.
@@KitakuBonsai thank you. I’ve been checking them out and I agree. There are many that are really quite gorgeous

I am so happy I found you. I've been going nuts trying to find it.....thank you thank you thank you
@@mrwantmojoe hey! You’re most welcome! Glad we were able to pass along something that helped you!
So....What happened?
Long story short, this can and does work. But it’s a 2-year process for the really large ones. They all developed lots of callus tissues at the base and rooting was starting, but I ran into some job and personal crises that took my time and focus away, the cuttings got neglected and ultimately failed. I’m going to try again though. In about five or six weeks, I’m going to do a start to finish video on hardwood cutting propagation, using a 7ft Japanese maple that I’m going to completely piece into cuttings.
Nice work, beautiful.
Just to be clear, that’s not my work. We just really like showing off other artists as well.
Beautiful indeed
Thanks! I’m happy to show off beautiful bonsai, even if they aren’t mine.
I wish this place wasn't like 4 hours away from me
If you’re ever near by, it would definitely be worth it. Great guy, really talented.
Great masterpiece .Bravo. I have been thinking how to fix the deadwood on the bottom of the pot. Now I know 👌👌👌👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙🌳🌳🌳🌲🌲💙💙
Great idea. But how you fix them on the bottom of the pot. ? Cement ?
Thanks! I used a heavy gauge wire to attach them to pots: Setting Tanuki deadwood in new pots th-cam.com/video/q4fN0A13MZM/w-d-xo.html
@@KitakuBonsai absolutely perfect 👌👌👍👍🙏🙏🌳🌳🌲🌲💙💙👌👌🌹🌹
I have been off YT for 5 years and just got back and started with airlayering. I use Pertoleum jelly to seal the cuts at the top, also candle wax, both work. I tried to find a follow up video on this one and couldn't. If you have it, please post a link in reply to this comment.
Mr Iqbal!!!! So nice to see your name and face again!!! We’ve missed you!! I don’t have a follow up video on this topic but I’m glad to hear that we’re of like mind. Are you going to be posting videos again?
@@KitakuBonsai I have started to make and post bonasi videos again. The progvress is slow and steady. So look out for my new videos.
I sure will!!
Update?! Great vid!
I’ll check them this afternoon and let you know!
Meh, you dont need all that i have 100% success on Hardwood cuttings. Stick, dirt, spagnum, water. But.... ill let you in on a secret... itll change the way you propagate once you try it... springtails. Start a bin of soil, add water and let it get humid and get fungus. Add springtails. Let them do their thing, its your new pet, outdoor, indoor, micro composting little critters are best at what they do. So, you go to plant cuttings. Take some of your springtail dirt and mix with your cutting dirt. Thats all. Why it makes a difference? Because fungus and mold are the number 1 killer's of cuttings. Springtails eat fungus and molds meaning they are hard at work cleaning your cuttings and the dirt they are planted in which ideally is...perfect for fungus and mold. Because they eat the fungus and mold the cutting stays healthy longer giving it time to develop the callus and roots. So they increase your chances of success
Well that’s certainly one way to do it! Thanks for checking in!
As has been previously stated, quality stainless will not be plated. Secondly, have you ever considered you used screws that were longer than what was needed?
I totally went overkill, but on purpose. I just wanted to make sure the screws would be deep enough into wood that would be subjected to for for a very long time
That's quite the find from a Lowe's
Thanks! I thought so too! After repotting, it lost almost all its leaves, there was some die back, but it’s been fully leafed out since and doing great!
Impossible to air layer unless you are a real pro. Or know magic. But good luck! 😉🤞
It can totally be done! It’s not manic, just plant science 🤘
Whats ur dog’s name? He looks old and happy! I appreciate ur videos and channel. Keep up the great work, friend!! Thanks for sharing. Do u have a preferred time of the yr to try and take cuttings? Spring, summer or fall?
Thanks so much for the kind words! We're glad to hear that you like what we're doing. Our dog in the vid was our old grizzly bear Dannon who passed a few years ago. Funny story with her - she developed a taste for beer, and every night when i got home from work, she would start acting out, flipping pillows and stomping around until i would take her out for a sip, then she would mellow right out be content.
Outstanding work
It’s beautiful, but just to be clear, it’s not ours. Don’t want to take credit for work that’s not mine
❤
Thanks for watching!!
Very beautiful!!! I did some from redwoods once.
Neat!! Do you still have them?
@@KitakuBonsai they lasted about 5 years and for some reason they all died when the temps got to 40f. Idk why but they just died all at once. Was my first time growing them as bonsai.
You know, if you double tap the like button it unselects the like.
Makes sense!
Does he have an Instagram account?
I really don’t know, but I would tend to doubt it. You can find them on Facebook though.
So it’s been two year. Curious minds want to know. You had several people who understood that root formation comes from the build up of sugar in the cut cambial layer from all the branches above the layer. Without branches we predicted the multiple section air layer would not work. How about an update? For all of those who took the time to comment on you video. Thank you, Mats
Hi Mats First of all, I want to say thank you for your comment, and also that I feel a little flattered you’ve been following. Thanks. To get to your point though, it’s failed. I don’t have that limb anymore and I was not successful getting any cuttings or sections from it. To be honest, I forget exactly what happened at the end of that experiment, or more details about how he concluded, sorry. i’ve had plenty of failures and projects and experiments like these, but enough successes that I want it try to keep pushing the boundaries of what people say cannot be done. Thanks again for being interested, and thanks for checking in on the channel here. Cindy and I really appreciate it.

Just found you two. Nice to see more bonsai enthusiasts taking their bonsai to TH-cam. I'll be watching.
Thanks so much!! Glad you're here!
Thanks for shaing Kitaku. I'm passing through this summer. How open is Sean to visitors he doesn't know?
I'm sure he'd be open to that. You should reach out and ask him directly and line something up!
Greet video guys 👊
I really enjoyed watching this and listening to Sean Smith's idea of bonsai. For me at least, he is 100% correct! You cannot judge a bonsai from its appearance until you know the story of the creator. Like he said about the chap who used the pot purchased for him by his dying father. How can you judge that tree until you understand that part of the story. This for me shows that bonsai is so much more. It's an art, but not just that, it's a living art that we have a connection with.

Absolutely stunning isn’t it?
Nice collection 👍👍. New subscriber here
Thanks for the sub! This isn’t our garden, just to be clear. We were visiting another local (and fairly famous) artist.
Very nice

Why would people say you can't take cuttings from Junipers? They are one of the easiest trees to make cuttings from!
I don’t know either my friend, but sometimes people really think they know it all, and they rain on your parade. I just keep doing my thing. Thanks for your support 🤘
Great video guys, that’s a good strike rate. I may give this a go thanks 👊👊👊
You should! Wishing you great success!!
I always love looking in their little rare starter tree area! I snagged a really beautiful Yuki Gessho Hydrangea from there last year!
Hey that’s great!!!
I’m not sure about zinc plated stainless steel… sounds like it would be zinc plated or stainless. Stainless does not corrode so does not need zinc plating.
Yeah now that you mention it, I’m trying to think back on what the label said but I can’t really remember. I’m sure you can see the idea I’m going for though
Gorgeous ❤
