A few things, 1) after replacing fuse, check continuity before plugging in to check for short circuits. 2) on long strings, say 100 lights, they are split in two circuits. The bulbs are in series and are probably rated for 2.5V. Well, 50 bulbs x 2.5V per bulb equals 125V. If you have less bulbs, then the bulb voltage rating is higher. 3) these bulbs have a winding at the base between the leads that is insulated until a high voltage burns off this insulation and thus shorts the leads making the strand work with a dead bulb. But, this leads to higher voltage drops on the working bulbs and thus will lead to short life, so replace the burnt out bulb as soon as you can.
