I combine my interests in model trains and music to create music videos featuring my Lionel trains.
My main layout was built in my garage in 2017 using three 4 by 8 foot tables and is now in its forth re-design. In this latest layout I simplified my track plan and eliminated all turnouts from the two main lines.
In the Fall of 2021 I created a second layout for the house. It is a simple 4 by 8 foot consisting of three concentric loops.

Nothing i could build, or even concive in my mind can compare with your railroad here. The sheer beauty of the scenery, plus the track plan. No turnouts on the main line, and multiple train operation. Hats off to Bill our soundman.
You're too kind.
Another good one here. I like the on board shots.
Thanks Guss, those on board shots give a greater sense of motion and are just visually more interesting.
I love it awesome theme ! Wow !
Thanks Ray. I have a number of good ones for this Winter season. Stay tuned.
Beautifully Choregraphed like a dance On Stage.
Very nice, but I'll be so much happier when Lionel goes into the N scale market.
I would be very surprised if that happened but I guess anything is possible.
Great song for this video Bill!
Incredible Bill! Excellent tune!😊
Cool Video & Track Design! I like how you can use 2 or more Trains on it too!
Thanks! That was my second layout. If you revisit my channel I have playlists that feature each of the four layouts I have built over the years.
@@soundman1950s Thanks! I'll check them out!
Fantastic festival footage! I really like the shots at the road crossing. I wonder what secrets may be in the giant box on the depressed flatcar... Great music choice too. I appreciate the shout-out in the description. Thanks again for your submission!
Thanks. It's really no secret, it's a giant box of fun.
Very cool run session, I like the music too. Challenge met!
Excellent submission for both challenges Bill! Love the trains and the music! Nicely done!😊
Awesome train! 😊😊😊
I’m pretty sure those trains are not from the 50’s
And you would be correct. I have no idea what would have led you to believe they were. All of the engines in this video were purchased new by me in the past five years.
Awesome BIll
Nice Bill, neat collection of military cars.
Thanks, I've noticed some sitting on the sidings of your layout. Those nose art boxcars are really cool.
Love the choice of music that accompanies the video.
Thanks Steve, that was "Colonel Bogey March" from the TH-cam audio library. Normally I would give credit for the music I use but this was not my typical music video.
@@soundman1950s I remember playing that march in parades in high school many moons ago.
Cool run and tune. 🎶🕺
Usually, A Part 2 Is A Sequel, A Sequel, Expectations Are Higher, This One Here Bill, Exceeded the Expectations, Iam Watching This One the Third Time Iam Really Caught Up in This One with All of the Details of your Railroad, The Music and Motion is Mesmerizing, Its Captivating and Interesting. Here At a Local Musuem, Is Huge High Rail Three Rail O Gauge layout, the details it took a local artisan 16 months to build. Now This Is Significant, while with all of his artistry, it is pale in comparison to what you have here, the beauty of yours is in its simplicity, And His Creation Is So High Tech that not even the youth of today can operate it so you look at the display in the museum, but it doesn't operate, yours runs flawlessly.
Wow, thank you for that tribute. Really, I'm just a humble operator having fun making train videos.
I was born in 1952 - nice soundtrack!
Great running session! Really enjoyed the music with the fantastic angles. 🚂🚋🚋💨💨
Thanks, it's hard to beat that old time rock.
@@soundman1950s You ain’t kidding Bill!👍
Collection is nice Bill. The views are great with that camera work.
Thanks Joey. The GoPro Max camera makes it easy.
I assume this is all analog. Unless you converted some to digital. Or is it a mix?
In this particular video the engines on the lower level are LionChief and the Santa Fe is a LionChief Plus. If you are asking about the layout, the lower level can be switched between variable voltage AC and a LionChief 18 volt DC power pack. On the upper track I am using a variable voltage regulated DC power supply I built myself.
@soundman1950s That is a cool setup. Are most of your engines, older, with no digital. How does your 18V DC work? Can it run older Lionel or Williams?
Originally it was all conventional but I have been adding LionChief and LionChief Plus engines which are digital. Older Lionel conventional engines can run on either AC or DC but the 18 volt DC power pack is just for the newer LionChief engines since conventional engines require a variable voltage to control speed. I have never owned a Williams engine but I suspect their operation is about the same as conventional Lionel.
@soundman1950s The Williams I bought in the 70s and 80s are all analog AC, like Lionel, with digital E-units or maybe mechanical E-units. I have a ZW, KW, AND LW transformers. It would be a HUGE task and expense to convert everything to digital. Too old anyway. LOL. But I might set up a simple analog layout. You have an interesting mix.
You're talking about controlling everything digitally with some kind of command control. That would be expensive and something I have no inclination to do. I'm old school but Lionel makes it simple with LionChief control. I can run conventional on either track and I can run LionChief on either track. I just can't mix the two on the same track. Most people have a layout dedicated to LionChief and add a separate track with transformer control for their conventional engines. My 4x8 layout is like that with the two outer loops for LionChief and the inner track transformer controlled.
I love your layout and all your MPC and LTI trains especially the Northern Pacific GP-20 diesel engine which I have. I also have many of the cars that you have. Thank you very much for sharing this!!!
You are very welcome. I find making and sharing train videos a most enjoyable part of this hobby. Do you have, or are planning a layout? I know it can be a big undertaking. I was nearing retirement before I finally built a "permanent" layout.
I have a 8 ft. by 12 ft. O-27 layout with O-42 curves so I can run my larger diesels and steam engines and I like it just fine the way it is. Thank you for asking though.
Haha, great camera angles. This is now the second official music video for this song.
Many thanks.
Just found your channel. Challege met, and I like that coal drag too.
Thanks John and welcome to the channel.
Coooool!! Great song too. Loooove the CN loco. Why not add the hash tag in the title itself. And, of course, I love the tank cars! 😊
Thanks Terry. When it comes to doing a search I don't believe it makes any difference whether the hash tag is in the title or description. I didn't have anything in the description at the time so I just added it there.
@@soundman1950s yeah, I think you’re right. Now when i tap the hash tag everything comes up, including your video. I may have been having a glitch.
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks Not unusual for TH-cam. They are constantly changing things over there.
@@soundman1950s yep
Nice entry in the challenge. Cool tank cars and caboose.
Love this one.
Very well done!
Thanks Steve. Looking forward to your next layout.
Great video Bill, super nice locomotives and great shots.
Awesome video Bill! I liked the ride along views. 👍
Great video Bill, loved the music! The Rio Grande steamer is awesome! 👍
That Rio Grande was new old stock from the year 2000 I picked up off eBay.

Thanks, I do that quite often in order to blend two separate pieces of video into one.
Totally enjoyed this video. Great music and awesome camera work, Bill! You put together some fine train consists which I always enjoy seeing! Just well done all the way around! Bill B.
Thanks, Bill. I really appreciate the high praise.
@@soundman1950s I just always enjoy your videos. Bill
The shots, the angles & the music! OUTSTANDING BILL!! I had to watch this multiple times!
Your videos are incredible Bill! Love the choice of music. WOW!!😊
Excellent run session Bill! Love the choice of music!
You Just can't beat those oldies.
@@soundman1950sYou ain’t kidding Bill! 👍
Nice run Bill, great camera work.
Thanks Joey. I've got video shot for the CN coal train. Just deciding how I'm going to present it.
@@soundman1950s that's a good looking diesel.
I noticed your tunnel portal, its at a angle, just like one i seen on the New York central water level route, its such a piece of engineering that is seldom seen cause its a long walk into it, so its seldom seen in photo and film, its at this angle to allow clearences in the curvature. When you created this, i dont know if you were base it on a prototype or was it just your creative imagination.
Angled tunnel portals occur naturally at times and I just thought it would add some variation to the layout.
Each time I comment, I had watched this again, with the mind of a civil engineer and the eye of an artist, you have created this beautiful piece of work. How you done this in a what looks to be a clean environment. So neat. The scenery, the structures created by a very patient man with skillful hands.
Thanks Guss, but there are others with far more skill and patience than me.
This one here is art in motion. The choreography here is perfect. The camera your using, must be professional grade.
It's a 360 degree camera but not professional grade. The ones used by real estate brokers have better resolution and cost much more. The GoPro Max is adequate for my needs, but if I want better resolution I use my cell phone camera.
1979, year I started on the railroad, 2021, year I retired.
1979 was just a coincidence. I have other years I will be doing in the future.
Nice trains, but had to turn off sound, music sucks.
I re-edit some of my videos without music on Facebook. facebook.com/100024786069141/videos/1202551297581700/
Well done, sir. Cool trains, great tune, excellent filming. I run N scale SP. I have subbed. Scott
Thanks Scott.
Need a CD of these !
Nice video work , well done !
Great work , well done !
Really like that Santa Fe, Bill. Great collection of lion chiefs.
Thanks Joey. I really need to get the universal remote, trying to control the CN with my cell phone is rather clumsy.
@@soundman1950s I could see a ton of coal cars behind that diesel.
I can work on that as long as they are O scale tons.
I always enjoy your videos! Your use of the camera and recordings is always spot on and makes your video a lot of fun to watch. Bill B.
