All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are under the power of sin. Romans 3:10-11 states, “as it is written: ‘There is no one who is righteous, not even one; there is no one who has understanding; there is no one who seeks God.’” We deserve death and stand condemned to eternity in Hell to pay the price of our sin. However, in God’s mercy, He has given us the Way: Jesus Christ (the sinless and spotless Lamb of God), our substitute, who came, paid the penalty for our sin by His sacrifice on the cross, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day. Our old nature died with Christ and was buried with Him, and we were resurrected with Him to a new life (Romans 6:4-8). By His blood, we are bought, redeemed, and saved (1 Peter 1:18-20). Through Christ, we are given a new nature, and our spirit is made alive (2 Corinthians 5:17): "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." We are urged to "hold firmly" to this true gospel, the only one that saves. Believing in any other gospel is in vain. Romans 1:16-17 declares that the true gospel is the "power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes," showing that salvation is not attained by man’s efforts, but by the grace of God through the gift of faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). Romans 10:9 states, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
