Mike Brodie - A Period of Juvenile Prosperity | photobook run through
Born in 1985, Mike Brodie, aka 'The Polaroid Kidd,' began photographing when he was given a Polaroid camera in 2004. His archive is a true collection of American travel photography.
Brodie recently graduated from the Nashville Auto Diesel College (NADC) and is now working as a diesel mechanic.
Today we flip through his book, “A Period of Juvenile Prosperity”, while I read the essay he wrote for it.

Photobooks Et al. - a new photography channel!
I see dead people.
I have the foto book but I hesitate to clue the Polaroid images into it.
Same here! still "scattered"...
I hope you come back to publish videos, there is so much in your channel!
One coming out soon!!
what is the name of this jazz song?
I got it off epidemic or Artlist.. not sure now 😓
Met him last year...he is definitely the real thing.
Bought the book!
Great video. I first saw these photos a few years ago and they always stayed with me. Such a different world seen through a talented eye.
What a great way to present the work and involve the viewer.
Pedro, I loved the parallels you have drawn between Salgado’s images and some of other famous photographers like Gursky… you’ve got a very sharp eye
Thaose are stickers? Not real photos? They aren't unique?
Yes, these are stickers of photos taken by Daidō. They were printed in sticker format so each reader can make their own walk “with” Daidō!
Great hearing your thoughts about one of my favourite books. Thank you. Always wondered about the Charles Lindberg thread ....such a strange emphasis on a messed up guy. Maybe something about the arc of his life paralleling the sadness running through the book?
thank you for posting this look at Moriyama, the photos were truly random, life like. I love the book concept that order of photos may be deterrmined by the viewer.
Very powerful experiential photography. Great idea to read his words as a simple narration.
Uau!!🤯
Obrigada Pedro. Não conhecia este fotógrafo. O texto é magnífico.
Thank you for the video!
love the photos & ur narration!!
Great commentary - both insightful and respectful
Great video, very inspiring.
Thanks, Pedro! Very poetic book ❤
❤ Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦✌️🇺🇦 I buy my photobooks exclusively at the charity shops (thrift stores / second hand markets / garage sales). In Europe it’s not a very common thing. But in North America you can find most amazing photography books there. I get new books for my collection weekly. Often for $2-7. Usually you can get vintage publications. But they are so unique and wonderful! Thanks for your video!!! The books you featured in this video are great! Makes me jealous … mmm 😋 These are my favourite photographers: Shore, Soth, Wall etc
I'll be doing a video on Wall in no time!!
Please more videos of Japanese photographers
More will come!
Kudos!
Thank you for your perspective and proving your lists. My favourite experience is going to a used book shop and finding an unexpected book from your list or even better, discovering a new photographer.
Both entertaining and helpful - thank you! A couple of additional sources I've found helpful are: - the local library (especially for more well-known works) - visiting photo or art book fairs (e.g. Paris Photo, Tokyo Art Book Fair). If you can, it's a brilliant way to get hands-on with huge numbers of books from all kinds of publishers. Many photobooks only make sense in-hand. But also... - TH-cam. Just type the title and photographer and often someone has posted a flick-through of what you're looking for - great as a rough guide. Photobookstore's online site also has video walk-throughs of many of their books. - Dedicated photobook review sites, such as Collector Daily. They often have more sample images than publisher sites, plus you get thoughtful writing that can open up new or "difficult" works.
Thank you! Your comment remind me of the old and famous Chladek library!! josefchladek.com
@@pedroverdepinho Oh, that's amazing - bookmark added!
His pics of Serra Pelada are very impressive.
As a person who live in a poor country and can't easily buy a photobook in town , I really love your content. And really thank you for your efforts. I appreciate it ❤
Thank you so much! Will continue to put out content!!
Excellent video. Good point on the posture.
Really enjoyed this! I've become a big Ghirri fan so I appreciate you showing that exhibition. Great selection on the books as well.
Thank you!! ☺️
Muita!
The most underrated channel on yt, i just wish that this work and words of yours will reach a big audience. This a series is purely a masterclass. Thanks for sharing all this with you with so much thoughts and knowledge. Grande.
Thank you so much, Claudio! Will continue doing my best! ❤️
silence really does get through ❤
❤️ Oh, goodness 👍 Great video! Amazing photography. Just an hour-two ago I picked up a book at the thrift store: DESSAU BAUHAUS ARCHITECTURE. Some images are very reminiscent of Lobo’s buildings he photographed. Some pictures remind me images from Joel Sternfield’s ROME project. Thanks for sharing this book with us, Pedro! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you for your kind words! Will keep putting videos out!
Excellent video
Subscribed 👍👍
I would love for you to highlight artists from each country. Would be a lovely series.
I will be showing work from different places! Sweden and Portugal are on the list!

Thank you! ☺️
❤ Enjoyed this video very much!!! Thanks for making it. After exploring and learning about photography, its history and contemporary photo artists … 😄 I made up a joke: If you want to be inducted into the pantheon of GREAT photographers you MUST have an "American" project in your portfolio 😉 🇺🇸 America - Wim Wenders Americans - Robert Frank American Friend - Wim Wenders Americans Seen - Sage Sohier American Photographs - Walker Evans American Power - Mitch Epstein American Prospects - Joel Sternfeld American Surfaces - Stephen Shore American Silence - Robert Adams American Pictures - Jacob Holdt American Night - Paul Graham American Mirror - Philip Montgomery American Geography - Matt Black American Index - Taryn Simon American Cloud - Kaj O’Connell American Eclipse - Caleb Jenkins Even if you’re from Canada… American Mile - Kyle McDougall 🇨🇦 American Squares - Leah Frances 🇨🇦 American Dreams - Ian Brown 🇨🇦 And now a new addition to my list - Americans List - Jason Eskenazi 😀
Grandes escolhas Pedro! Bom registo! 👌
Welcome back and thank you. Great video.
Obrigada! Bom Ano !!
Please add some commentary as you showcase the books, it adds a level of interest needed for viewing and holding the interest of the viewer, love your videos,
Thank you for the kind words! I won’t stop doing videos commenting on the books, I was thinking about doing shorter videos where I flip through the whole book, and just that, so people could have a chance to see them at their own pace, in their own way. This also allows me to show more books, as every commentary video involves research and more preparation. This way everyone could have flip the book and pause and analyse a photo as they wish, and also have another video where I talk about the book or artist, and get a more in-depth analysis of the work.
I followed your advice and I added the reading of texts that accompany the books! That was a good idea!! Thank you, and hope you enjoy!
What a great video, thanks. Do you know where I can find an in depth analysis of the sequencing and backstories of The Americans? And any other interesting insight like the one you presented here.
Hi! Thank you for the comment! There is a book, published by MoMA, collated "Trolley - New Orleans", by Lucy Gallun, where she looks at that specific picture of the Americans and explores it in the context of The Americans and in relations to other photos of that era. I hope this helps you out! Will be posting soon!
Em grande, Pedro. Mais um vídeo muito, mas muito bom. Siga!
Obrigado, Isabel!! ❤️
