GX 470 helper air springs after coil over conversion
มุมมอง 1.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video talks through the process of reusing the OEM air compressor and load leveling system of the GX 470 after converting to coil springs. Here is an example of how I use it. I haul a motorcycle on a hitch mounted motorcycle carrier, combined weight of the carrier and the bike is in the ball park of 350lbs. I'll load the bike up which effectively puts 350lbs of tongue load on the hitch cau...
Lexus GX 470 rear shock install technique. 4Runner, FJ cruiser
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This video demonstrates a technique for installing new rear shocks on your GX 470, 4runner or FJ cruiser. Most video's out there show the opposite way, installing the top first, which I find to be much more difficult. Hopefully this makes your shock install go more smoothly.

Why does Ford do this! 😭 Did you order "confirmed fit" just like many here in comments and do this on your own after the error? Thank you for the upload!
No it was all planned. Ford offered two different styles of headlights on these vans. Converted from the composite style to the seals beam style because it opens up way more options for aftermarket lights.
lol I have the exact same headlights and just realized that I need to do this conversion great explanation thank you, do u know where u got those side turn signal housings I like that look
Same!
Where did you get those sliders?

Wow. Nice work. We just bought a Pleasureway Excel TS and need to make it off pavement capable. Probably lift the van some 5" and add batteries etc. You mentioned you now have wiring diagrams. How can I get a copy of these. It would be a great help. Again, great job. Thanks.
Awesome looking forward to seeing your build. Join the facebook group Older Model Pleasure-Way RV’s (PW owners helping each other) and share it there. I'm sure you know but the best lifts are from weld tech designs. I'm not planning to publish or distribute my wiring diagrams. Doing this wrong has a real fire risk and I don't want to be responsible if there is a mistake in mine. If you want to learn how to do it the best resources are faroutride.com/ engineerswhovanlife.com/ explorist.life/
@@chrisgarage7848 I put in a join request to the Facebook Forum you mentioned. The rules state no modified vans, only OEM. Maybe that's not enforced? If they let me in I'll follow for awhile to get a feel for the forum. I've been leaning towards Weldtec and they have a Class B lift kit. Good to hear a positive opinion. As for wiring diagram, I wasn't clear enough. I was hoping you had a diagram for the original wiring. If I know what's there I can design the add on system. However, I may still get back to you about your solar panels and wire routing. I will check out the sources you list. Thank you again. (And thanks for responding to my wife's "how do we contact you" inquiry. I figure we've got that part solved :-)
@@hughcurrin584 there are two main groups on Facebook. The one you joined has really good information in the files section but also some incorrect information based on folk lore not engineering. That group has really strict rules and a very aggressive drama laden administration. I’d recommend not posting in that one. She will get mad and kick you out. The better group to join is the one with this phrase in the title “ owners helping each other”. That’s kind of a jab at the “other” group Also contains a lot of great information in the files section including the original wiring schematic you are looking for. This group is way more laid back and allows modifications and discussion of modifications.
@@chrisgarage7848 Got it, thank you. I was accepted into the first group and after perusing some posts I agree with you. In just those posts I found a few jabs at the "other" group. I've applied to the "helping each other" group and will look through posts and files when/if I'm accepted. Looking forward to updates on your build. Thanks.
How do we contact you
you just did
How do you like the change? I'm in between replacing what you had originally with an aftermarket version that's basically the same but without the fogged out lens. I'm lookin into this change as those LED sealed bulbs look like they would be a better light output. Was it worth it for you?
It was totally worth it. Happy with the results.
Post more wtf need update
Is there a part number or something for those white clip things? Where do you get them?
Look closely and pause the video. The part number is on the package. I think I got them on eBay.
Dorman 42200
Thanks
I plan to do the same with my gx470. Getting a weldon rocksliders. As for the approach, do you think it will work if i trim the running boards WHILE its attached? That way you can leave it clipped on the vehicle... What do you think?
Yeah many people do it that way. Might be easier but I’ve never tried.
@@chrisgarage7848 thanks for the input!!
I have a 2009 Excel that I really like ,but handling could be improved...wondering how yours handles now? Did you do any front end work like a steering stabilizer? Excellent advise on accessing the bolts, thks
Drives great now. Leaf springs, shocks all around and alignment fixed all the handling issues. It’s still a heavy van but it drives as expected now. No more surprises. No need for a steering stabilizer or sway bars or any of that stuff. Those are all just bandaids over the real issue which is the leaf springs. If you need any convincing just go down to your local u-haul and take a look at the spring packs on those Ford vans and compare to what’s on your pleasureway.
So did these vans come with sealed beams from the factory on prior year models, and all you had to do is pull the parts from that model van? Or did you research what parts are needed and got what you needed from the recycling yard? 87-91 Ford F Series trucks sold in Australia came with sealed beams, but not sure how they are installed on the vehicle. There is a company selling a conversion kit but they are out of stock and aren’t cheap. It comes with a bolt-on light bucket and required surround. The bucket takes the place of the composite light housing only, and mounts to the plastic bracket that is bolted to the radiator support. Hope that made sense lol.
The sealed beams came on base model work vans of the same generation.
@@chrisgarage7848 thanks for clearing that up for me. I didn’t know that Ford did this with base model vans back then. I’ll have to do some research if I want to do this to my 91 F150, on the cheap; composite headlights are such a pain to keep from getting dulled.
Nice haven't seen this great

Where is this sold again?
Check the mountain passes off-road Facebook page or GXOR Facebook page and search for mountain passes off road. I think he just started making them again
Thanks very handy & ez to deal with
How much does this weight?
Never weighed it, but I guess it is around 50-60 pounds.
👍🏽🇧🇷
This is exactly the sort of thing I want to build 👍 Thanks for telling me the type of car, too. Not many TH-camrs bother mentioning that 👍
Would you be interested in selling the OEM board light sockets? I have one broken and having no luck locating. Thanks!
I didn’t save them sorry.
I could perhaps help! Im doing this soon!
Thanks for sharing, I really like this setup.
🎉 *promo sm*!
Thank you for this demo.
“Be gentle with the clip” as you pry it with pliers 😂 sometimes it’s easier to put the clip in first, then push the little tab, then pull off. Glad I saw this! I’m about to start with cutting mine after my lift is installed and bigger tires.
How are they holding up? I am seeing a lot of pics of it pulling away after a year or so.
No issues so far. I have seen that happen on older models that have been on the sun but it probably takes ten years or more to get that way.
Who sells the rear window seals?
Such a helpful video!
Is there a trick to removing the trim panel that the seat belt is in?
George Lavallee I don’t remember for sure, but I think it is just clips so grab it and pull it away from the body.
Also what are the PN for the two smaller trim pieces, one on each side of the rear most window?
What type or size is the torx bit for the screw that needs to come undone?
T20
Just did one side this way, 30mins...the other side in 2mins. Snap off the stays you won't be using on the new pieces. Open the rear windows. Use a plastic panel tool to pop up the old piece. There are 3 tabs that hold it in place. Once all three tabs are loose or broken, you can carefully remove the old trim. The stay you won't use twists loose easily. Wipe clean, remove any remaining tabs/material. Slide the new trim in, align the three tabs with corrosponding holes, click into place. No interior panels need to be touched!
This is interesting. So you were able to get to the tabs that hold it in place without removing the window or interior panels? Can you tell me which plastic tool you used, or can i use anything that will slip under?
what tool did you use?
What are you tire and wheel specs? Offset, width, etc.
James Smith www.fnwheels.com/tag/fx-pro/ Wheels are sold by FN. seems there is limited info on the website, but if you call they are very helpful. Tires are 255/80/17 coopers.
Hi, where'd you get the trim pieces from, and what were the part numbers? I recently bought an 05 GX and all the window rails/trim pieces need to be replaced. I like the look (and the price) of the Prado version better. I've seen the front and rear ones online, but haven't seen a part number or source for the third row windows. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
The part numbers are in the video. I think they were ordered from the partssouq. Enter your vehicle as a Prado.
@@chrisgarage7848 ey. Did you get the OEM parts or replacement? I have to replace mine but I need an opinion about replacement vs OEM
@@chrisgarage7848 you think you got them from partsouq? lol
Nice ride bro. What helmet cam are you using?
Its a Yi lite action camera.
nice ride
thanks for the instructions on how to get the assembly out!
I had the same issue with my GX470 where the socket for the front turn signal light is damaged. You do not need to remove the entire headlight assembly to remove the harness. There are two way to remove the harness. From the top with the engine bay open. You need to remove the plastic trim piece to the left of the silver engine cover. Once removed, you can reach into the headlight assembly and turn counter clockwise (lefty loosey) to remove all 4 of the connectors to the light bulb. Once remove, the harness comes out. The other way is from the bottom of the vehicle. You will have to have a long arm or use a padding to get you up higher. You reach up and remove all 4 of the connectors to the light bulb. Once remove, the harness comes out. You do no need to replace the headlight cover (that assembly itself is the $300 piece). The harness (81125-6A240) should cost about $30 to $40 at your local Toyota/Lexus dealership.
I had the same socket failure. It’s a bitch removing the bulbs.
Thank you for video^^
How do I remove the front bumper is it all clips holding it in place ? Can you please contact me back at gamigairsofter911@gmail.com to help me out please
It is just plastic clips, A flat head screw driver pops them out. You should probably get someone with more experience to help you.
very helpful, i have the same year make, model and even color.
where did you buy the replacement harness? Thanks for making this video! The lexus dealership wanted to charge us $950 to replace this.
The part number is in the comments of the video. Google it and find a vendor that sells it.
Thank you for addressing this issue on the Lexus GX 470. Not many people realize the headlights alone are $300 a piece plus the labor charge of removing the whole front of the car because of one poorly placed bolt.
