    I finally got to cross this bridge/tunnel last year enroute to my destination in Jiangmen. This year I will go from HKG using Uber to the nearest customs facility in Shenzhen. From there, friends will give me a ride to their hometown of Humen. This will work out best for my trip. The bridge and tunnel were interesting, and I even made a video about the journey, but Shenzhen will work better.

    During peak hours at high traffic stations the Trains could literally be tailgating each other, one train leaves and not even 20 seconds the other train comes in

    6:21 I love the beautiful stations, the rainbow one in the left-bottom corner "Choi Hung" station means Rainbow in chinese so the walls are literally rainbow colored, the station right after it is Diamond Hill, with a dark blue wall with white dots, really makes it look much better.

    Alright, I can give an updated comment as I just went last week. So, lotta comments as well as the video in general are correct. It's a technical marvel, it is desperately underused (I timed a car every 10 or so seconds during my crossing on the bus). It would have succeeded more with a train, or at least better connecti9n with a train. However another comment is also correct - a lot of it is down to the current border system. If vehicles were allowed to cross freely it'd definitely be used far more. You realistically need 3 number plates currently, HK, Macau, Chinese (I saw a Tesla with exactly that!) to fully make use of the bridge. It's slso clearly made with a thought to serve mainlanders and commercial traffic to get to HK via Macau, less HK'ers to visit Macau For that It has advantages to the ferry especially if you are commercial as it connects nicely near the port area. Also I noticed in terms of people, the flow is actually not that bad - but they are all on buses due to the private vehicle restrictions. It's still not that much compared to what they built it for. In all it feels like it could still work yet with some tweaks. particularly on the political/border front and being better integrated to the rail system for passenger use on the HK side. I'm pretty sure in time usage will increase as China integrates it's SARs more politically. But the cost of maintenance as well as the size of the border facilities in the meantime really makes you think that they did miscalculate the present. Conclusion: I'd say its a failure. I'd drop the colossal. I'd add watch this space.

    Its a version yes, but ' copycat' is just pandering to the china copies everything moniker - ultimately there's only so much variation (basically do just about everything) one can do if you want a fully inclusive experience. To be fair you actually commented on the differences, - and elephant in the room they look totally different - its just your cheap title.

    • @globeex
      @globeex 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1. Average now is about 8900 per day as per South China Morning Post. 2. That equals 3 cars per minute in each direction...which yes: Is a huge failure for 55km of 3 lane roads bridges and tunnels.

    • @globeex

    • @hyena8385
      @hyena8385 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What a stupid comment using an absolute number to determine success or failure. 10k cars / day for a single lane 1km long road is a success, 3 lane over 50km not a success.... The true solution would have been to add a rail line, if you ever lived in HK you'd know that no train = doomed to fail.

    It is incomprehensible that HK taxis only accept cash. Imagine travellers arriving at HK international airport and being told by the taxi queue staff “HK dollar only”. Asia’s world city? Pardon? It’s all about vested interests.

    There used to be nissan cedric Y31 taxis on the road, i heard that it is difficult to source spare parts and not reliable compared to the crown comfort, taxi companies all go for toyota. LPG is the only source of fuel for taxis in HK, thus no other cars were factory fitted with LPG besides the crown comfort, nissan cedric Y31 and the current JPN taxi(called comfort taxi in hk market). Which makes no choice for other brands. Why not you say as for now Toyota is reliable for business vehicles ?😂

    Great video but your wrong about Macau. Just like Hong Kong they drive on the left like here in the UK, not on the right. This was due to Macau being a former Portuguese colony and at that time, Portugal also drove on the left before switching to the right some years later but Macau never did follow suit.

      "absolute success" is no argument, it's just an emotional statement. Also they used the money from Hong Kong taxpayers, most of which cannot use their own car to drive across the bridge. The ones that have a license still need to pay money to cross and then park their cars at the checkpoint.

    I have fond memories growing up in HK in the early 80's i was 6 years old and used to get myself from school in Kowloon back home on HK island by bus, Star Ferry and a taxi. It was so long ago but i still remember the plastic seat covers and the meter flag the driver would drop when the fair started. I loved all the extra green lite up plastic markers on the corners of the bonnet (hood) they added to them. The taxis are some of the strongest memories I have of Hong Kong.
