Footage of Mount Lena summit and of the Bretherton ridge traverse; I ended a little shy of this summit; about 100 feet more of gain. I had an issue going on with my Achilles and also wasn’t feeling confident with a narrow exposed section. Towards the end of this video I added in some voice over; my first time trying this in a video. Please let me know your thoughts! Strava showed 19 miles / 7,8...

This has to be one my favorite videos of this climb Ive ever watched. Hell yeah lady! You rock!
Thank you, I’m so glad to have had experienced it!
The algorithm got me here! Considering Mt Hood next year. Man, that climb through the Pearly Gates looked like a grind (in a good way!), but you kept the mood light and made a friend along the way. Blessings on your next adventure!
There’s no apostrophe in Mount Adams
Thank you for catching that! I’ll have to replace the cover photo at some point 😁
Nice job Gina. You all have to go back and redo Adams if you only went to the fire lookout bldg and not the true summit about 100 yard away from the bldg. :)
Thank you and that is not good news about the summit lol. I think I am content with not having the true summit, but then again it would be another great experience, I’m sure ☺️
Your a trooper for sure
Why in the world is there an apostrophe in Adam's here? Does the mountain belong to Adam? Strange.
Thanks for catching that, I obviously didn’t know what I was doing when I typed it out 😁
What a single day push this was, great job. I plan on doing the same.
How did you prepare for hood? I’m going to summit Hood this coming May with guides from timberline lodge. I am quite nervous that I am not physically in shape for it!
Hi, I was climbing maybe 20-25,000 feet of elevation gain monthly and weightlifting 2-3 times weekly. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy with the weights but it is helpful to have a strong core and upper body strength. I would recommend doing some hikes that are similar with mileage/gain in advance to help prepare you for the climb. I was nervous too, I think it’s great you are going with a guide service, you’ll be in good hands!
@@elevationwithginahikingpnw unfortunately I live in downtown Chicago - and also Illinois is the second flattest state so I’ve been doing stairs. Hopefully my fitness level will suffice along with a guide for me to be able to complete this trip. Thanks for getting back to my question!
Stairs are part of my training, that’s great. And if you are able to use a stair steeper machine, even better! Wearing your backpack with some weight helps too. My husband and I are wanting to check off your states Highpoint, Charles mound, have you done it?
I laugh at (not to pick on anyone) some of these 'climbing' videos. I've been on top of Mt Adams 3 times. IT'S NOT A CLIMB! No glaciers, ropes, crampons or ice axes required. It's simply a day HIKE! Ditto Mt Hood! I do understand how an out os shape climber would need 2 days on Rainier. IT can require some climbing skills!
I am laughing too, because you’re right, it’s not technical but damn, it’s up up up, which is kind of a climb, right 🤣. However, Mt Hood is not a hike! There are no fall zones, and if you fall, your chances of breaking bones are probable and people die. I don’t think it should be sugarcoated. I am looking forward to doing Rainier car to car!
bros still doing weights with that leg. that’s determination
Thank you for the awesome video! I climbed Mt.Hood in the year 2000. It was an incredible experience! Your video really takes me back. Im happy you're safe
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
What happend?
Removal of a nerve with a neuroma (I’ve had for several years) between the 2nd/3rd toe along with a torn joint ligament in the same area -likely happened last September descending steep terrain. Finally getting it taken care of!
@@elevationwithginahikingpnwojalá te recuperes rápido!
Watching that video makes me a bit nostalgic! 21 years ago, I summitted Mount Hood three times in a three week period by that route. 2 of the time were solo! The last time I skied the full length of the miracle mile down to timberline.
You are brave, one time is good enough for me 😅 Very happy to have experienced it. Would love to ski from Devils kitchen. That would be fun!
loved this.
Thank you 😊
Thank You! Didn't realize how easy it was to 'climb' Beacon. I've driven by a few times and have wondered ...
You’re welcome! We were also driving by and happened to stumble upon it. There’s a lot to see in that area; gotta go back.
never been to that one
Short and sweet!
@@elevationwithginahikingpnw the old dog would think it was mt everest 😆 🤣
Nice all around
Well done! And heavy salute on the Valhalla delivery. The last place anyone deserves to be buried these days is less than 10000 feet.
I really enjoyed the editing and the two songs on this one. The condition of that snow made me a bit nervous at times! But you guys know far better than me. Another great video Gina!
Thanks Eric! I really like the two songs in this one as well. And you are right, the snow had some breakdown as it was a little warmer in temps (above freezing) that day, but thank goodness it wasn’t terribly deep.
Me and my friends are gonna go hiking here tomorrow thanks for the video
You’re welcome. What did you think? Another great waterfall if you haven’t checked out yet is Mashel Falls.
Happy New Year guys! Beautiful hike , awesome falls!
Happy new year Jay! And yes, it really is a beautiful hike with awesome waterfalls!
Wow, GP wasn't kidding! That's beautiful!!
Props to you for getting as far as you did! Some of that def looked sketch!
Thank you, It was the right call, and yes, sometimes I think the camera makes things look worse, however there was a bit of sketch to this ridge!
Awesome vid!
Thank you, If you haven’t done Welch’s peak, you should check it out!
Great video. Those steep drop-offs on the ridge are terrifying! The view and shots from the summit were incredible though.
Thank you. That area is fantastic! I do think the camera makes parts of the ridge look worse than it is.
No matter how many I watch moments like 2:05 will still make my stomach lurch! Your friend climbing that little peak with his flat at the end was an amazing shot! Great music as always, another one bagged. Great video Gina!
Thanks Eric! I’ve been getting out every weekend and have lots of footage, but just not enough time to get the videos edited 😞 really looking forward to retirement, which is a so far away, like 14 years I think 🤣
Oh and yes, at 2:05 I felt was the most technical move on the ridge; somewhat narrow, swinging around the left side of that ridge boulder then pushing off of the packed snow to get up onto the next section. That was my least favorite part, but I loved all the rest of it.
Really enjoyed this video. I am 31 and just now getting into mountaineering. Mount Hood is high on my list. Appreciate this video!
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and congratulations on getting into mountaineering, the journey I feel is an empowering and never ending epic adventure!
Congratulations. The kamikaze trail is a trail not for the faint-lunged.
That’s perfect verbiage right there, it’s a good burner!
$90 for that hotel sounds amazing! though id imagine youd sleep in a super 8 after a few days in the RAV! have you shown your RV on that channel before? and agreed it is not a cost effective means of transportation (despite the luxuries it provides) at that distance. 6 or 7x the cost in gas is a huge difference! regardless of clearance issues etc which is a whole other issue. i laughed so hard when you were in the flat bed ford! LOL that readywise meal looks legit. how was it? was it self heating? a NM beer after a 13K peak is well earned! the loft in that hotel room is nuts! ive never heard of such a thing! no fluids after 6pm lol. sol food cafe looks legit! love to see green salsa in NM! great video gina!
Funny, we looked at a super 8 that was in line with the solar eclipse and they wanted $500! Jacked up price for the occasion. Heck no lol. Slept at a rest stop that night. I haven’t showed the RV on the channel, and would’ve loved the luxuries for traveling in it this trip but wanted to try this out. We just listed the RV for sale, and hope to pick up a Mercedes cargo sprinter van then make the modifications to our liking. Hoping the prices will drop first. Glad you got a kick out of me in the flatbed Ford, wasn’t my best editing! lol. The ready wise meals are actually pretty good with the exception of the lasagna (we both agree that we didn’t like it). Used a jet boil to boil the water but I’ve been wanting to try those self heating meals. And we decided or I should say I decided I did not want to climb up and down that ladder in the middle of the night so we pulled out the sofa bed and had a beautiful nights rest!
@@elevationwithginahikingpnw i work with a guy who is an 'eclipse chaser' so im not shocked that hotels would take advantage of such people (not that you are one, but they dont know the difference or care!). i do watch a fair amount of van living type videos on youtube, so i am very jealous of your future sprinter mods, in fact i would like that even more than an RV, probably for the same reasons you are making the switch. i have wanted to order some legit surplus us military MREs but still havent, the asian ones i have eaten on my channel were fun but not nutritious at all. and i would have slept up there for certain lol despite the many dangers
i feel like most of your hikes are 'out and backs'. is that true? it is always nice to have an actual loop so you can feel like you are making progress when i am on a ride. do you agree? must have been nice to be where there were less (or none) people instead of packed like it was in AZ. and another waterfall! this one is amazing! 3:21 what is that thing? something the state put up there to mark the summit? pretty cool! great video gina!
Thanks Eric! Most of our hikes are out and backs for the summit peaks, but there are some that are loops which I do prefer. Often peaks will have steeper, mountaineer routes that may be a preference to go up then could go down the more common gradual trail. And yes that is summit marker representing the high spot!
2:30 my goodness! look at that! "we like lots of pillows" i dont know why this made me laugh lol. how cold did it get that night? looks pretty snug in there. i respect that you are willing to sleep whereever or do whatever to go run around and do some of these hikes! that is a sickening situation with the toilets up there, time to get out the 'toileting bag'! great video gina!
Hi Eric, thank you and sorry this is such a late response. I’ve fallen a little behind with my videos. I think it was mid 30’s that night but never felt cold bundled in the car together with all of our pillows 😆 Your comment about the toileting bag cracked me up; we will always be prepared for those unfortunate toileting times with the emergency bag of shame haha
i dont think ive seen a waterfall on your channel yet! amazing! this was more intense than the last two - that view when eagle summit blocked you was unreal. "i did not like this move" LOL neither did I! this is when hiking because legit rock climbing. your buddy jerome is making me feel dizzy creeping around on these ledges and up at the summit! hes fearless! intense video!
lol Jerome is fearless, he has climbed every 14’ in Colorado and loves exposure😅. Love your comments Eric, thanks for your engagement!
rarefied air! this video is just a VIBE. the music is perfect, no talking, just spectacular views and good energy all around. this looks technical enough to be interesting, 3 miles is easy but 3100' over such a short distance is pretty intense! love it! good work gina!
Thank you Eric, I really love the vibe on this one too. One of my favorite, no talking videos. And yea definitely a tough climb with the elevation, but not technical like that ridge that I added the voice over on! That one was scary lol 😅
its never too early to get your first camelbak! as usual your music is perfect, the lyrics and the general vibe. love it! is this america's first summit? great video gina!
Thanks Eric! That was her first time using the Camelback and she had it in her mouth constantly and peed like 4 times on the trail 😂. This was her first little peak, and since then she has did another small sub peak in Mount Rainier national Park. Haven’t did the video for that one yet. 😊
Nice work! What a nice video and my, what great taste in music you two have! I almost cried tears of joy! Honestly.
Thank you Stevee, your comment means so much to me. I really put my heart into these videos!
Congrats on bagging another high peak. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you and you are welcome! 🙏
Your weather is so much better than here in the PNW. Perhaps I should start traveling / hiking elsewhere starting in late October.
Paul I wouldn’t mind traveling south of Washington November- January lol. We had great Weather until we hit Oregon, then back to cold, wet, and gray skies.
The adventure continues! Thanks for the video.
Yes it does and you’re welcome!
Yup Gina - another great one! Lots of good info. (from you and GP), hiking details, video and music mix (Major Tom fits nicely👍👍)!
Thanks Pat, so fun to put together!
You nailed the editing with this one!
Thank you Laura, I think this my favorite so far!
That looks like so much fun. You guys rocked it. 👍
Thank you, we did Rock it! 🤘 it’s a fantastic climb!
Good job Gina!👍
Thank you Pat! I just got New Mexico Wheeler peak downloaded; check it out when you get a chance. I think it may be a favorite of mine 😁
Will do👍
Always exciting to see your climbs
Thank you 🙏
We drove by Humphreys on the way to the Canyon, without enough time to climb...I've always wanted to go back and do it. Thanks for sharing your hike. Did you have any trouble with the thin air near the top?
Hi Wingspread, we did good with the altitude; we took ibuprofen, breaks every 45-1 hour, and consumed snacks/ hydration regularly. My husband had never been past 8000 feet until this trip but all of our High points went great (Wheeler video coming soon). I think sleeping at the trailheads helped with acclimation. I hope you get to do it soon. It was a fantastic climb!
Ayyy this looks familiar! I was there a few weeks ago, falls were dry tho. Also we were lucky the 4PM closing time wasn't up yet...
Ya! We wanted to do Dixie too, but wouldn’t have had enough time with the 4 PM gate closing 😅
