And ppl in England outraged because the Three Lions have a German Manager
Important here isn’t his German, it’s what he’s saying
Well he was basically German and distantly Danish-ish
This might sound weird, but the placing of his voice and vowel and sounds so much closer to standard English and a lot of our regional British accents, It sounds so natural, compared to his 'English' voice. I guess a lot of RP speakers did adapt that style of speaking as an affectation. Might explain partly why RP has largely disappeared!
His last name was Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, why is anyone surprised that he spoke German LOL?
Because not everyone knows that he is actually german 🙄
To think he only spent two terms in a German boarding school, he did well. Of course, his family being multilingual must've practiced his ear for the accent.
❤❤❤
They are germans
Most people one earth speak more than one language, only uneducated people don't
It was his first language after all.
He Doesn't Speak Fluent German. You Dont Have The Ability to do that. He will Know Millions of German Phrases. Giving the Impression that He Fluently Speaks German.
He is actually fluent, sorry to disappoint you ...
Er hatte deutsche Wurzeln. Man muss nur sein Stammbaum sehen
I speak enough of a number of languages to 'get by' in most cases, although I would never claim to be fluent in any of them. This may be a bit off topic, but I would advise potential visitors to a foreign country to make an effort to speak at least a modicum of the lingo. The locals will respect the fact that you have tried. ps: The two most important words in any language are "please" and " thank you".
One should never forget that the British Iles and global British commonwealth is ruled by a pure German bloodline.
1985 mit nem Elektroauto unterwegs, geil
Not bad for a greek. He spoke pretty good english too.
“Fluently German” is horrible English!
Zeig .........!
Come on the whole European royalties have German roots … English royals have German ancestors. You are ruled by Germans , like it or not 😂
Ja ja ja ja.....vee beet zee Germans all those years ago..... ja ja ja ja
And German isn't an easy language to learn. I'm reminded of Mark Twain's humorous 1880 essay, "The awful German Language".
He was of Danish descent actually. And also my former Colonel. I met him several times in Munster and London. A true gentleman! With a great sense of humour.
Der pissort!!!!
Surprise, surprise.
I wonder if he speaks with an aristocratic accent in German, as well
well, he is of the house Schleswig Holstein Sønderborg Glücksborg and his father lived for quite a while i germany and his sisters married germans and he himself married into the house Sachse Coburg und Gotha (sry, windsor) AND he was from a time when even englishmen learned foreign languages as a matter of course. More interesting is what he is saying about foreign aid to africa
Yes, of course he is from a german family, natürlich er stammt aus einer deutschen Familie.
He sounds like you would expect: someone who has spoken German since childhood (therefore picked up a native accent) but was not educated in it, hence why he’s fishing a lot for words.
The way the cult intended 😂
Er war ein Deutscher Ein Prinz von Schleswig, Holstein, Glücksburg und Sondernburg
Well, can't forget mother-tongue. All British royals, regardless their position, are central and north- central Germans. 🤦♂️
Plus Philip lived in Hesse with his sister Cecilie and her family during part of his youth.
For all of you that don't know his first languages were German, danish and English. His Mother was Princess Alice whose father was Prince Louis of Battenberg, a Hessian entity. His maternal grandmother was Princess Victoria of Hesse and the Rhine. Princess Victoria's father was Grand Duke Louis the Fourth of Hesse and the Rhine (the ruling Grand Duke by the way). Philip was also the great great grandson of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert whose birth languages were German and in Victoria's case also English. Let me put it this way, Every relative of his on both sides was a German speaker including his paternal side who were German-Danish. Even his Romanov paternal grandmother and great grandfather were German speakers. In addition Queen Elizabeth spoke German although that has been carefully hidden. Her father and uncles were all German speakers. Her Grandmother Mary was a German princess (although born and raised in England). This all really shouldn't be a surprise for anyone who knows the family lineage.
British Royal family has had ties to Germany for 200 years. Including cousins, etc.
Natürlich. Er ist Deutscher. Na und?
The late Prince Philip was of German descent, so he was fluent in the language, although he was rarely heard speaking it in public. And King Charles and Prince William have a good knowledge of it.
