Road Trip America: The Last Pretzels - Pt. 1: Camden Park's Haunted House
It's the start of a new multi-part road trip series! We're traveling across America to ride the last remaining Pretzel-built dark rides! In this episode, we give you a crash course on Pretzel and the impact they had on the amusement park industry, then hop aboard the first ride on our quest, Haunted House at Camden Park!
This ride is special for many reasons, and luckily one of its operators, Cole Hogsett, was kind enough to tell us all about its history and secrets on his lunch break! We've got a POV of the inside of this insane ride for you, as well as some chilling details on why some say it may actually be haunted...for real.
=================================
Many thanks to Cole and all the great folks at Camden Park for letting us film in and around the ride! If you want to plan your own visit to the park, you can get all the details here: www.camdenpark.com/.
And also thank you to Brandon Seidl of The Bill Tracy Project for your help with some of the photos!
Also, just a quick note - we stop short of giving a concrete number on how many Pretzels are left in the US in the vid, since that number is kind of in flux and by next year it's possible at least one more will be restored and running again. Which is exciting! But we didn't want to have an incorrect total in there if things change. As of Halloween 2023, there are four operating. Obviously, this will be a project broken up between other episodes, since all the parks are closed for the year now.
PS: Chuck Burnham, if you're out there, give us a holler! We'd love to interview you!

From the depths of the mighty Susquehanna River, it's The Susquehanna Serpent! This huge fiberglass sculpture is just a quick detour off a popular road trip route between Philadelphia and Penn State University, so we stopped by to dig into its history. It's Muffler Mania! We're taking a deep dive into perhaps the most beloved roadside attraction of all, the Muffler Men! These towering giants - spread across North America - have fascinated road trippers since the early 1960's, with most (but not all) of them identifiable by their signature hand posture, which used to hold - you guessed it - mufflers! This episode covered some of my favorite things: amusement parks, roller coasters and haunted houses all rolled into one twisted pretzel. The Chuck Burnham art is wonderful! Didn't know there was such a thing as "dark rides". I wonder if the Exterminator in Kennywood falls into that category?

    • @JustaQuickDetour
      @JustaQuickDetour ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad we could pretzel that all up for you! Good question about Exterminator...I think most would just consider it a roller coaster, buuuut there's also an argument to be made that THIS ride is actually a roller coaster, too, since it runs a complete circuit on a track and is completely powered by gravity, which is how a lot of people define coasters. So basically all the definitions are kinda blurry and it's really up to you how you want to classify things! Thanks as always for watching!
