Stuff to get stuff done!!! Tool and skills for getting your ass off the couch and out in the wild. I’ve been going into the backcountry since the 90s. I’ve learned a lot of skills and I’ve made a bunch of mistakes. I’ve grown, I’ve learned and now I’m sharing. This is what I do with the precious free time that I have. I hope you enjoy.

Harbor Freight VS. Coghlan's Magnesium Fire Starters!
Here, I'll save you from having to watch the video. They are exactly the same! I think they might even be made in the same factory. This test was almost a waste of time. I would recommend the Harbor Freight over the Coghlan's just because of the price. Of course the Coghlan's is available on Amazon so thats nice. There is a link below that I make a small commission on and it helps grow my channel. Thanks for your support!

Utah?
Yes sir.
Props for shedding light on temu/cheap alternatives, most guys wont even acknowledge that some of the gear is just as good or a good enough replacement to not break the bank on and still do the job! I've recently got a tomoshoo outdoor wood stove and it's perfect
I was able to get a ton of gear this year because I purchased several unimportant things from Temu. I still got some decent quality gear elsewhere( you know, the stuff that really matters). Oh, and thanks for watching
TEMU products are produced by forced and slave labor in China.
All of it? Even the stuff on Temu that is sold at hundreds of other retailers?
My own experience with molle pouches from Temu is that they rip very easily just from regular use. A lot of those items are hit or miss
I haven’t put them though much use on the exterior of a pack or chest rig, just inside packs, totes and on the back seat of my truck. I agree that they are hit or miss based on the quality(or lack there of) of the zippers, materials and stitching. Perhaps one day I’ll put together a Temu chest rig and go roll around in the dirt just to see what gives. Thanks for watching!
I preferto put my vaseline in a pot and let it warm up and liquefy. Then, dip my cotton balls in it.
I use cotton rounds dipped in diesel or kerosene or mineral spirits. Allow to drain then dip in melted paraffin wax. The wax forms a protective shell around the volatile fuel. Lights easily after exposing some inner fibers.
I like this idea! I will definitely try this the next time I make more of these. Thank you.
Just got mine from Amazon, had reward points so it was essentially free. Seems like a great mid-duty knife!
You can’t beat free! It is definitely a good mid-duty knife. Thanks for checking out my video!
I recongnize dem mountains! Mount Timpanogos! Thanks for the video.
That is correct! Thanks for watching!
Last year, I bought several pouch from Temu, to put on my combat belt that I use for hunting. I applied on them the 3M spray to waterproof the cushions and outdoor fabrics. It held up perfectly despite the heavy rains. I am very surprised by the quality of outdoor items that I buy there. I look forward to hearing your impression on the tarp.
The waterproofing is something that I should do on a few of my pouches. I have hundreds of items from Temu and most of them are pretty good and I’ve saved thousands of dollars. I’m going to ride this wave as long as I can. Thanks for watching!
Vaseline can be used for other things. Chapped lips, dry skin, a lubricant and fire starter. I don't think the others are as versatile. Great video though.
You are absolutely correct. The others aren’t as versatile. Thanks for the support!
I use Vaseline in a "squeeze tube", pull almost apart the cotton ball, squeeze a big dab of Vasoline in the center, then squeeze back together so that the exterior is dry cotton. There is no mess making or handling, and the dry cotton fibers ignite immediately. Can do the same with cotton rounds - squeeze a big dab in the center, then fold the round over to make a "taco" with a dry exterior. This ignites instantly, too, and these pack more easily and densely. In either case, no mess making or handling, no tearing, cutting, fluffing to expose fibers.
I might have to try that next time I make these. I really don’t like the mess so that sounds like an excellent suggestion. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.
Dryer lint works well as well mixed with Vasoline. I should try it with Paraffin wax and diesel fuel.
I have used dryer lint mixed with paraffin wax and lighter fluid in the past. It does work well. Maybe I’ll include it in another video like this one. I do think that Deisel fuel burns longer than lighter fluid. I’ll include that comparison when I do another video on tinders. Thanks for watching!
Chinese crap
Extremely low QC heat treatment, I've personally seen two of these roll edges on medium hard wood.
Nice video. Thanks for the presentation. But these knives are D2 steel blade. And D2 for scandi knives that are especially made for bushcraft; is a very poor and so bad steel for that using: Ok, they are not expensive at all. But I understand why. The same knife with full carbon or inox like aus8, and I would be so happy to buy many of them. But with D2 I can say that I will never buy one.
With nearly 30 years experience I can argue that D2 performs almost as well as aus8 and carbon steel. Especially with how thick this blade is. Its edge retention is barely different and D2 is so easy to sharpen that it is perfect for beginners to learn on. If you are using a knife properly it will hold up. So unless you are abusing it, it will last and get the work done. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching.
@@Strateegee24 I have never questioned the qualities of D2 steel, but rather, I highlight all its flaws, especially in the context of a fixed blade with a Scandinavian grind, which is meant for outdoor use, like wilderness outings or bushcraft. While D2 steel is easy to sharpen, its edge retention is, contrary to what you say, very fragile, much more so than AUS8. Its toughness is reduced, and its composition makes it more brittle due to its hardness. The thickness of the blade wouldn't change anything, as when subjected to pressure during twisting, this steel performs very poorly. Lastly, it's a steel that handles moisture extremely poorly, making it highly susceptible to corrosion. This is essentially why this steel is completely unsuitable for bushcraft use, which is why it is almost never used in knifemaking for Scandi grinds or bushcraft knives. Don’t bring up your "X years of experience"; this isn’t a contest of who has the bigger, LOL. I’ve given you a perspective shared by the best knife makers in France and Europe. By the way… do you know why even in the USA, ColdSteel chose AUS8 steel for their folding FinnWolf knife and not D2? Exactly for all the reasons I mentioned. Also, aside from this example of a folding knife, give me a list of all the fixed-blade knives designed for bushcraft that use D2 steel. LOL The list should be short.
I like your style dude. You are making some sound points. I will agree that D2 is not the best but it is way better than some unknown “China stainless” knives that I had available to me in the 90’s. I was bringing up my years experience simply to say that I’ve used several knives of different quality in several situations. In many of those situations I wish that I had this knife over the one that was on my hip. When I started going into the wilderness to see what I could do the internet wasn’t around to tell me what blade steel I should be using. And my choices were limited to what the local hardware store had on the shelf. So I’m sharing my opinion on this knife based on my personal experience with a variety of knives of wildly different quality. This knife held up really well on a couple of weekend outings. Maybe bring something to tune up the edge occasionally. And in my case I had several knives back in the truck if I needed a different one. I even had a trusty folder in my pocket. Now back to agreeing with you… this knife is not what I would choose as my “stranded in the wilderness for ever” knife.
Sure it's a great price, but QC on the heat treatment of these is atrocious. Yeah it's d2 steel, but I've personally seen a few of these have major edge rolling on medium hard wood.
I Assure both of you that I will continue to use this knife and post updates of any failings. But remember, no news is good news.
I make them using parafin wax and bbq lighter fluid, rip em open, expose the fibers and get a 3-6min burn with 1 or 2 strikes from my Ferro rod. Great video man.
I just made a bunch with paraffin wax and Deisel fuel. They work just as good as the ones with lighter fluid. They burn for over 10 minutes. I made a video! I drop a link below

Lmao. I found one on Amazon .Was amazed at the quality for the price. Wood handle. Two days later after using it as a kitchen knife I bought the green one like you have.

Thank you for sharing. Your videos are interesting. In my fire kit, with lighters and ferrorod, I always add a dozen matches UCO and fuel tabs. Recently, I added the always practical small stove esbitt in which I put the tablets and a little bic lighter. Greetings of Quebec.
I have bought almost all of those I have a couple of differentials from them and am really impressed with the quality for the price. I got slightly inebriated one evening and bout 5 spools of the 9 cord para cord but I use it a lot and really like it.
Have you tried the survival cord? It is 7 strand paracord with the addition of a cotton thread, Kevlar thread and a waxed candle wick.
Yes I have tried 4 different variations of it one being Temu one from creek Stewart one from outdoor element and the spartan. My favorite is the one from creek Stewart it has a snare wire in it as well they are all really good but bang for the buck still goes to Temu
They spelled Bandana wrong :)
Hahaha! I can’t believe I didn’t see that. Good eye.
Might as well toss out that bivy thing, those mylar tents are a gimmick.
I better wiggle my ass down into it before I throw it out. I’m sure it will get all ripped up with an adult rolling around in it on the dirt. They are advertised as one time/emergency use.
