Let's learn about developing a homestead, together.
Welcome to Agrarian Schoolhouse, I'm Olivia! I went to school to be an agriculture teacher, but in this season of life, I'm homeschooling a 4-year-old with a toddler in tow. Grab a cup of coffee and let's talk about growing food on a small scale and schooling kiddos at home.

Early July Garden Tour // Dealing with Blossom End Rot in the Summer Garden
This is an early July garden tour video where I take you through the two garden plots that we have going. We are also dealing with blossom end rot, caused by a lack of calcium in the plant. This makes sense in that the area has not been a growing space before and not much has been added to the soil. We are learning as we go.

The music! 😖
Lovely video! Blossom end rot isn't just the lack of calcium it's inconsistent watering. If you water consistently you'll be able to mobilise the calcium within the soil. It's incredibly rare so not to have enough else in it.
Thanks for the input! I'll have to look more into it and work on my watering system.
What are you growing at this time of year?
The plant needs calcium, same thing kept happening to mine. I bought some calcium pellets, sprinkled it over the soil and watered it a lot so the calcium sunk in and no more blossom rot!
Same my garden 😂😂
Dirt not loose enough. I live in Georgia and from experience I can tell you you have to condition the clay with good soil, compost etc.
That is great to know! Thanks!
I just harvested my potatoes too. I love watching potatoes harvest. New friend here. Showing you support. Enjoy your harvest. Have a wonderful day 😊
Thanks!
What potato variety are you growing this year?
How to treat it? My peach is experiencing it too
ဗန်ဒါ ရသရက်လား
Good luck with those tomatoes! Looks like a good start.
Thanks! We are hoping to do a lot of canning this year!
Thank you for this video! I am wanting to get this curriculum and even in 5 minutes it was very helpful to see the basic setup. God bless you!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome job, guys
Thanks so much!
We love using Core Knowledge! Definitely give one of the Listening and Learning Strands from Core Knowledge Language Arts a try. They are a lot of fun. We will be using them for Kindergarten and fourth grade next school year.
Please consider lifting from under the garlic instead of pulling straight up on it. Nice garlic
Thanks!
A lil ripe
I love the covers but dislike the yellow pages. 😔
It would be super cool if you could mix and match the covers with the paper color, or if the paper color would be an option to choose :) I'm the opposite though, I think I'd get everything in the off-white paper if I could lol
It looks wonderful. I love the curriculum tracker. 🙌☺️
The curriculum tracker has been fun to use with lessons that are numbered, like math and reading.
Что из него готовить
I've read that you can use it like a chive. We chopped it, stir-fried it on the stove with minced onion, and then added it to rice.
Those are great resources for kindergarten. May you have a wonderful year! 🥰🥰
Thank you :) Have a great year too!
What do you have growing at this time of year?
Ty
^ what he said. You have to dig up the roots. that's how they grow.
The bamboo continues to amaze us. We are trying to keep it at bay before getting a contractor with heavy equipment to help us out.
You have to dig up the roots from the runners jangles. Then, put up the edging to keep them out of your yard.
Thanks for the comment. What kind of edging do you recommend?
@agrarianschoolhouse any kind of metal edging that goes 5 to 7 in deep. You dont need a contractor or heavy machinery. Just dig a trench in a straight line, place the edging in. If you want it to be very sturdy, you can add concrete before you bury it again. Bonus, you find all the runners while digging your trench. Id come do it for you guys but im in Germany. Tell Justin that Devin McMaster says hi.
@@devinmcmaster6396 I actually pulled out our tiller a week or so ago and tilled up some of the area and hit some of the runners just doing that. Given the way it has spread along the treeline we may end up just digging a trench at the back kind of like you are talking about to cut off those runners and then put in a barrier. Digging up all the root system at this point could take out a lot of the other trees. We will have to also pull out the runners that have advanced into the yard but cutting them off from the main should be a start at least. In the meantime we’re doing some fun experimenting like this to see how it responds.
@justinhile9901 Yeah, i dont know exactly what your situation is, but a physical barrier is the only thing that will stop them. Even then, if its not deep enough under or high enough over the ground, then they will just go around it or if they can get under it they will push through it. We had a client where the bamboo was pushing up through asphalt. You could just put down edging where its possible, and at least then its minimized where they can travel. We also had a client out here where we had to go on to the neighbors property every year and remove the runners. Luckily, the soil was loose, and it was as easy as just pulling them up by hand. Its actually "illegal" here in Munich to plant bamboo outside of some sort of physical barrier because they end up in your neighbor's yard and then your neighbors neighbors' yard , etc. I wish you both the best of luck.

If homeschooling, what reading curriculum have you used?

If you are new to homeschooling, what curriculum have you found helpful?
I started seeds indoors, brand new gardener. I have had to separate ground cherries(2 types), broccoli ( 2 types) brussel sprouts ( 2 types) , spinach planted 1 kind for now and will be planting a differant kind in the fall. just started germinating cherry and regular tomato's a bit late , about 8 kinds of melons and cantaloupe yesterday.going to germinate some mini melons and cantaloupe later this month or beginning next month since they don't take as long from germination to ready to pick as the larger and bigger ones. even though I am new ,I figure go big or go home.....wait .....I am home hahahaha. I have spent hours and hours every weekend separating those 2 types of ground cherries.every time I separate ,a few days later more sprout up . sitting there down in my basement for hours with tweezers and steady hand has been rough but no way would I clip and save the strongest one like I keep reading and seeing. I accidently squeezed to hard with tweezers a few times though
What tomato varieties are you planting this year? Let me know in the comments below 😀
Would you consider growing asparagus? Let me know in the comments below :)
Have you started seeds indoors? Let me know what seedlings you have had to separate and repot in the comments below :)
Those that plant bamboo directly in ground should have to pay a tax every year it continues to grow so that when the new homeowner comes, they can use that fund to destroy the mistake they’ve made.
Very interesting video can't wait to see how they come along during the year
This is not a native plant species, and is highly invasive. Take it all out and plant some native plums or grasses.
Gotta make it something useful to you. Some kinds of bamboo are way better at staying put.
What is one thing that has kept your backyard chicken coop functional?
I just did this with red potatoes, fingers crossed they sprout up! 🥔🥔🥔
I hope they've grown well for you!
I'm planting potatoes next. I have turnips, pumpkins, tomatoes and squash in trays just waiting on them to sprout. 😊
Excellent! We just got our potatoes in the ground. You are ahead of us on the turnips, pumpkins, tomatoes, and squash :)
Welcome to Agrarian Schoolhouse, friends! We have broccoli, cauliflower, mustard greens, and kale seeds planted. What seeds are you starting at this time of year?
how old are your peach trees? and when do you expect fruit?
What a great idea. Thanks for sharing. We used to use 100 easy lessons. Just subscribed. I also have a channel and would love to be friends and connect. Looking forward to following along!
My youngest is in kindergarten this year too, but she is repeating it and on the older side (she is 6 now). We used Math with confidence for a while but have switched to Apologia Math 1. We really enjoy it. I just subscribed to your channel! I’m also a homeschool TH-cam mama!
So glad you found my channel and I will go check out your channel as well. This TH-cam homeschooling space is super fun and I am thankful to be able to share about our math journey. I am glad that Apologia Math 1 is working for yall! Thanks for sharing.
Hey sweet mama. 💗☺️ These homeschool reviews are very helpful. I worked with Saxon when I worked as a private teacher for second and fourth grade and I did like it. It is very complete and I like the focus on mental math as well. Thank you for sharing! 🙏☺️
Thank you for sharing that Saxon worked well for you! That is encouraging to hear about the upper grades of Saxon, as we are just beginning our journey with it.
