What contributes to the sensation of breathlessness or shortness of breath during playing, in the absence of having exhausted your air supply? For example, I am playing a slow piece of music with multiple opportunities to breathe, not running out of air, but still feel short of breath. Is this the stacking of breaths and incomplete exhalation? Do you have any insights or tips on how to deal with this unpleasant sensation thank you very much. I’ve enjoyed many many of your videos.

While I can maintain a relaxed posture during long tones, I find it difficult to maintain it as I start playing music or faster phrases, gradually tensing up and losing a relaxed posture. (Is it important to continue being conscious of relaxed posture?) Congratulations and warm wished from Romania. Not long ago, on Mezzo, they showed a lockdown concert of the Concertgebouw, where the flute had a very difficult part, so the camera was almost fixed on the wind instruments. And I felt so proud, because there you were, absolutely rocking it. I felt like the proudest cookie, to know you from your TH-cam lessons, to know that my flute playing was from the very beginning influenced by you. I go back to some of your guides again and again, as confusion, tricks and conflicting information out there send me back to the basics, to Moyse, to Wye, to you. And little by little, the journey continues, to the annoyance of my neighbours.

Awesome videoI always learn very valuable music things.from you as well explaining them.I tried the real flute but it's really tough for me to get a consistent sound I play the American Indian flute and I went to the real flute. The harmonica I got to and guitar also the flute is really tough....on getitng Consistency for me.with just working head joint

Greetings from Sweden. I miss playing on my flute. It was some years ago since I played on it after many years of playing in different orchestras in my youth. Having a Sankyo Etude but it needs some love after so many years of inactivity 😊

This is teaching me that I need much less air than I think for the middle and higher octave notes…no wonder I always need so many more breaths than others; I’m trying to force way too much air down the instrument!! 👍👍 😬

Hello from Canada, I’ve always enjoyed your content. I have a question regarding Moyse’s other book - 20 exercises on long slurs, trills, pauses, which is not often mentioned by other flutist. If you by any chance has it, would you mind explaining exercise No.4 in that book, why Moyse points out the difference between first and the second line (eighth notes VS quarters), and how one should approach it differently to for a certain goal? Thank you very much.
