WHEN TO HARVEST ZINNIAS? THE WIGGLE TEST!
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey, garden lovers! Today, I’m sharing a simple tip to know when your zinnias are ready to harvest. Use the wiggle test : 1. Gently shake the stem : If it stays firm, it’s ready! See the video examples!! 2. Check the flower : Make sure it’s fully bloomed and vibrant. If it’s not very full, give it a few more days. Harvesting at the right time ensures your flowers last longer in a vase.

I had a couple twice as long and 8 inches across when I showed them to my neighbor he said you’re supposed to take that put it on your neighbors porch knock on the door and run because nobody eats them you only eat the tiny ones
Agreed the can be not good but this one here should still be good to est
Yeah here in Zone 9A, the temps are STILL reaching the 90s, almost 100s, so it's best for us to wait/start indoors first😂😅
Oh wow! That’s HOT!!!!!
Beautiful varieties! 💐 I love your music choice, too 😉
Thanks so much! 😊
Good video. Looove the pink overalls❤
Thank you!!
Time to get your stomping boots on 😃
I think they look so pretty like bug marshmallows
Ha! I’ve never heard anyone call them pretty 🤩
Whaaaa?
@growahealthygarden...great video...simple and to the point. I'm ready to harvest my spearmint. Due to the length of the stems, I'm going to hang it (in order to dry). Would you recommend washing beforehand?
@@tammygibson3460 if you don’t spray with any pesticide and it’s not dirty… I would not wash it.
Nice video I have lemon balm And I dried catnip for my cats
So awesome!!!’ 🐱
Beautiful! Love it! Do you prefer spearmint or peppermint? Can’t wait to grow mint again. Love pineapple mint especially.
I actually grew spearmint this year and did not love the flavor! I was surprised I could tell that much difference. Pineapple mint!!!! I must try!❤️
good to know :) my problem is that I can't always tell if it's just growing new leaves or if it's flowering
The flower looks more circular but I know what you mean. It helps the plant to be pinched often. So if you are unsure..just pinch it 👊🏻
Hi new friend Thanks for sharing this nice video
Thank you for your sacrifice!
It has to be done 🦋❤️
What do you do with the carrots? They’re edible right so salad?
Yep! I eat them as snack, in salad and stir fry!
But what if I need more than that lol
I need way more! So I grow in garden beds too! You can also grow in pots!
New friend
YES!
So true.
:)
You definitely have the right tools.
🤔
I'll just stick to my chemicals and stick
Be cautious of those chemicals 😢 they hurt the beneficial insects 😢
I'd rather just use a stick lmao
Trust me doesn’t work as well! 😂
I learned this very quickly when I started gardening with my dad, but like most insects do ick me so here's some tips for my fellow entemophobes! 1. Companion planting helps control common pests and guides for it are freely available on the internet 2. Spiders are your best best friends crab spiders hunt spider mites, aphids and thrips, brown recluses love protecting your grapes, jumping spiders take care of your ants, beetles and various larvae don't kill them 3. If you don't like spiders in your home keep Cellar spiders around those guys actively hunt other spiders, including the scary venomous ones, as well as other household pets like flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, crickets and ants. They are completely harmless to humans though! 4. Agricultural lime takes good care of maggots, beetles and slugs and snails and neutralizes acidic soil too! 5. Copper foil tape, like the type used for stained glass, keeps away slugs and snails too. 6. Netting works well too, and there are organic pesticides and fungicides that help control insects and common diseases 7. As she said some insect activity is not a problem, just soak the veggies in salt and baking soda water for a couple of minutes before thoroughly rinsing before you eat it, kills most pests and helps remove dirt and debris! Make sure to use about a third of a cup of salt per 2 liters of water and dissolve it well before adding your veggies. 8. Insects and other garden pests are incredibly important to the local ecology in that they are decomposers, pollinators and a huge part of the microbiology in your soil. Insect poop feeds the ground which feeds your plants, and so do dead insects. They benefit you more when they're there than they do when they're not.
I AM TRYING THAT COPPER ONE FOR SLUGS NOW!
@@GrowAHealthyGarden it has to be actual copper though not just a stained base metal or metallic painted plastic
There was a caterpillar on your shoe 😊
Omg!! How did you see that??? Those suckers are everywhere right now 🐛 😅
@@GrowAHealthyGarden I do not know I just thought you should know! 😂
@@amandaconway315 Ha! Who knows where it is now? In my laundry basket?
My swiss chard plants just did that as well. They survived through 2 winters and grew back. Resilient plants I guess
Yes! This chard made it through my winter too! I was surprised it came back so strong!
Same I grew the red and rainbow chard let some go to seed and it came back. I'm in the high desert 🏜 tried to give to my neighbors but no one likes it unfortunately
Freedom seeds
I’m afraid to ask 🤔
So the process is just making the plant adapt to new environment
Yes a slow integration outdoors.
Why
At night, vegetables regain moisture and starches formed during the day are converted to sugar in the evening. This makes veggies more crisp & sweeter.
@@GrowAHealthyGarden so short answer : it’s yummier ?
Sorry. What cover material is this and where to get ?
Do you mean what is the insect netting?
When you use an image of a bug you want to keep out of the garden, don’t use an image of a beneficial one!
It’s pretty hard to tell what exactly that cartoon bug actually is 😂
@@GrowAHealthyGarden it’s a lady bug, one of the most beneficial ones you could hope to have.
Although there are yellow lady bugs with stripes..that is not typically what people see. Most people know the lady bug as red with black dots (but can be confused with the lady beetle). For the sake of this video, I think most people are not going to think that is a beneficial insect. But I appreciate your concern :)
@@GrowAHealthyGarden lady bugs are the best. Definitely most gardeners will know that image. Doubt theyd be offended for the majority though.
Omg! I now see what you are talking about! Thats not the bug icon had inserted! But apparently that is what got saved! It does look like ladybug! Oy vey! I guess the only truth might be that we don’t want to get those good ones trapped inside? Which sadly does happen! Thanks for bringing to my attention!
I go out of my way to look for the vegetables that have critter marks
Exactly!!!
Great point! We should all think about what is really going on with our food.
100% 👊🏻
