Holy cow I was out there a good few weeks ago and it was pouring down just like that it’s crazy how much damage Helene caused
Actually got to see this first hand. Only about 5 minutes from Cherokee damn. It was truly something to witness

Come to Truman Lake in Missouri. Its loaded with blue catfish 3-5 feet long.
Heck yeah! Our typical average we get here is 20-50lb on this channel but have members who’ve hit 60+ before
I've been fishing for about 60 years and usually the worst place to fish is at the boat ramp
Really depends what you’re hunting. Comes down to the terrain offshore, gotten some really big blue cats out of this location in the past as the shore takes a pretty quick 20ft drop roughly 50ft out.
A bad day of fishing beats a good day at work 😂

@@Latemodellisa Here it is pumpkin seed color, typically we have good luck with bass. This fishing day in particular was for big catfish. Just struck out. I assumed though probably with the flooding we had that it probably affected the bite.

That picture if of a DAM- NOT flooding!
The dam was at high capacity due to a heightened pool due to the 4 days of consistent rain we got. The water rose several feet and now TVA is having to open the dam up more this last week than many previous years.
A little late I’d say
i keep wondering how much was helene water v how much was dam water.
The 4 days rain brought the lake OVER full pool in a short period of time after it was down several feet. Most the dam has ran consistently like this in decades.

The flooding mentioned was the lake rising above normal pool after dropping it 10ft months before. this is the most the dam has flowed in decades consistently.
There's not any other river systems that you can run that off on besides right on that town by creeks and rivers and stuff like that with small dams you can't open those up or cave systems run that water into the cave systems and stuff
You are correct, only one way out which is the South Holston. Thankfully unlike the French Broad, no major lower end damage.

Cherokee Lake runs North of Hamblen and Jefferson Counties. This lake is fed by water tributaries from both Cumberland and Smokies. The mountains that run along the North and South sides of the valley floor of TVA. Cherokee Dam is located in Jefferson City Tn just East of Knoxville TN. Asheville is further East and South up in the mountains. How do I know? I played along the lake banks of Cherokee Lake as a child growing up in Morristown TN (Hamblen Co.) You can play by the lake banks and camp nearby but personally I would not eat anything out of Cherokee. Citizen Tribune and EnkaY used that lake as a dump for... decades. Douglas is/was the cleanest of the lakes in the 80's. These are my "stompin grounds."
@Dobviews you've been blessed to live and grow there. It's absolutely beautiful there. I live in Texas now but I lived in Fort Mill SC for 7 years. We camped in Boone, NC a lot, dam near every weekend. I absolutely love it there. I feel so bad for the people who got hurt or killed by the storm. For the people who lost literally everything . I pray that God gives yall the strength to get through this disaster. I'm a tornado victim, so I know all too well about having your world turned upside down instantly. We are sending help to the great people of NC. God bless you.
