You gotta listen to this.
Should it hunt like that at idle? Still sounds brilliant all the same.
I never had a Detroit idle like that, it’s a fast idle with the sound of lots of tiny Hammers striking the Pistons.
Your neighbors must love you. LOL awesome Screamin' Jimmy!
Perfect for my civic
Do you still have it for sale ?
Another gutless heap of leaking shit
Sounds better than any V8 gas engine!!!
That's why nothing comes close to the spinning arrows!!!
That's my grandpa and his detroit diesel that he sold about 8 years ago
Pretty damn hard on a cold engine...
Sounds like a cross plane v8 engine
Sounds like my boat...
People who say to adjust all the governor roll out of a Detroit have neither read the service manual or set up a hot one! The manual states that the screw should be adjusted NO tighter than to eliminate roll after 3 rolls when returned to idle because the buffer screw adversely affects governor response. That's why we let 'em roll! As long as it doesn't affect drive ability or die.
Where’d you get your manual, out of a box of cracker jacks? The REAL Detroit manual, printed by GM, says not to increase the rpm more than 15. The buffer screw has nothing to do with governor operation anywhere above idle, since the governor lever is not touching it.
Best sounding engine ever made, damn shame they only made 4 of them
There is evidence that 15 were made with two non serialized. There's only two known. Bet there's a couple of them sitting somewhere... One can dream
Has the perfect mixture of V12 and V8 sounds...GAWD
Mid-engine pickup
Sounds like a V8 somehow
It's sounds like a V8 when revving up bit when at idle near redline is sounds a bit like an inline 4. Unique sound for a V12. I quite like it
it's a 2 stroke
@@harrimanfox8961 I know
Cross plane right?
Would you consider selling this engine? Please message me... thank you!
Only a lot of noise.
very rare engine,to savage for any driveline to handle
GM does have an idler screw that will take looping out.
Sounds like a dragster. Good shit 😁👍🤘
Sounds better tho
@@idkwhattoputformynameyt NICELY PUT 😁😁😁
Holy torque Batman! 😀
WOW!!!!!
Imagine coming down the highway and people thinking all that power and noise is coming from under the hood!
It's a prototype 12 V 53 Detroit Diesel. Was supposed to have been for military use.
Wish it came into production, producing 700+hp with that size and relatively low mass perfect engine.
@@dakkan5433 it doesn’t make near that, maybe 300-350 and 700-800 tq and that’s being generous
@@deborahchesser7375 if it was NA probably. twin turbos tho lotta air pumping
you had me at v12
Buzzin dozen sounds angry.
Nice engine, you have find a nice truck to put it in ! (please let get oil pressure on start up before those kind of free revs 🤔)
its only 1500 rpm
Detroits are made to run just like this and harder, most Detroit diesel generators go from shut off strait to governed Maximum.
@@amongust69thought it went to 1800
First time seeing or hearing a 2 stroke detroit? They hate it when you are gentel with them.
Install a drop box and couple that bitch up to power the truck!
FlatBroke612 yes yes look up Stubby Bob,hes a 48 F jailbar with bb chev mounted that way.Take the front motor out,,,wheelie bars.
screaming Detroit! Ok now put it under the hood!
The buffer screw needs to be adjusted just a wee bit to stop it hunting. Congrats on having a great engine - good entertainment ! ! ! ! woo
Best diesel sound ever!
holy torque is twisting the truck
I know what i want for christmas
Hell yes
how come they make v12 gasoline engines more often than v12 diesel engines. it sounds like it has great performance..
+hilmur leaf - I'd guess it's easier to get big torque out of big inline 6's which is why most diesel companies produce inline engines.
hilmur leaf no direct need tp warm it up, you should see how they test run and start up new engines at the factory. From the engine enter the door at the test room until its started and dyno at full load to exit the test room, 7minutes just 7.
Injector size is irrelevant. It's unburnt fuel.
It's a 2 stroke Detroit Diesel engine. Every diesel engine in the world smokes like that...
sawjar sawicki plus there isn’t any load on the engine so the turbos never spool fully
no it means big ass injectors
why its sounds awesome
Awesome! But need to adjust that governor buffer screw to correct the hunting at idle :)
Simply not so, not even what the manual says, it states that buffer screw negatively affects governor response, and to NOT adjust it tighter than to allow 3 rolls on return to idle. If you build a hot snappy one it will roll. Just like all mine do and all other gas and diesel competition engines with mechanical governors. Just watch NTPA pro stock Diesel tractors and semis.
@@Cletrac305 true you know it's gonna be a good pull when the engine can hardly idle
On what page in the manual does it say that ? No two stroke Detroit should hunt at idle that much! Do you even understand how the governor works and where the buffer spring is ? If you did you would know that the buffer spring has nothing to do with the governor! Anything above idle the buffer spring isn't even engaging the the throttle lever ! It just stabilizes the idle that's all . There is so much bull shit from keyboard gangsters on the Internet it makes me sick to my stomach!!!! Get out from in front of your computer and do something so you can learn!

black fuel means partially burnt fuel
I'd like t talk to you about the engine if it is till for sale.
Black smoke means unburnt fuel, which means inefficiency.
Murica.
And combustion is not complete
No!... it just means momentary Turbo lag going from idle to full throttle!!... plus there are two roots blowers between the turbos and the air box before entering the cylinders through the ports.
contact me I am interested. mylesfimbinger@gmail.com
Contact me I am very interested in the engine. mylesfimbinger@gmail.com
ill ask how much , send me a personal mesge , please
Also, this was a military engine but Detroit Diesel did not get the contract. Only 4 with turbos were made as far as I know. Any info would be appreciated
I am the owner of this engine. It is a 12v53t. It does not run the truck! It has 610 h.p. If interested it is for sale. Just leave a comment and I will try to reply as soon as possible. It is also an aluminum block with cast heads.
12V53 = 636 cu.in and 610hp = .96 hp/CUBIC INCH? Thats a lotta horses for a diesel engine. 8V-92 max is 550hp. they shoulda made more than 4!
Do you still have this engine
Regardless if you have the engine or not.
@@ronfrance4041 yes but he blew it up in the back of the truck being retarded
still for sale? Lol
this guy is a complete and total idiot, thats REAL good for the engine doing that, especially when its cold,,, nice going jackass
