Unstoppable Guitar Jam: Live Looping #72
I played for 35+ years in cover/wedding bands and played multiple guitars and keyboards that needed amplification. Early on I knew that I couldn't accommodate an amp for each instrument so I would carry a sturdy speaker cabinet, usually with 2 15" speakers, and a 6 to 12 channel powered mixer to plug everything into. Yes, it wasn't like over driving a small amp to get "that" sound but I wasn't really much of a rock player anyway. I had a RAT pro-co distortion and a few other pedals and that gave me all the flexibility I needed. I never felt hampered by that setup and it came in handy a few times when the other guitar player's amp went out, or we were in a small space and he just plugged into one of my extra channels. Towards the end of my performing "career" I was in a large stage band with a big PA and monitors for each performer. A couple of times I just ran a mixer right into a PA channel and it worked out just fine. Even when recording, I often just go right into the digital recorder unless I actually want some some room ambience and "noise" in the track. Just my 2 cents.
Interesting. Thanks a bunch for sharing. Just goes to show you that there are even more possibilities out there then the 2 conventional options of real amps or modelers.
How do use it with your looper
I just plug it into my Boss RC600 looper & loop if from there. You don't need a looper that big or advanced. That are many other smaller loopers. That's just what I use.
@@MUSICIANGeeK thanks . . . I’ve got a couple of the cheaper Lakato Loopers. Im wondering would it be possible to play with your feet? I play guitar along with the boss octave pedal in a small combo. I’ve been using the TrioPlus but it’s not always dependable with the drum loop and I’d like to have something I could use live.
Does it do loops
Joe Pass around 2:13 absolutely sounds like using a DI and nothing else.
Still sounds like it was the DI signal, but after F.O.H..has eq'ed it. Does not sound like a untouched DI to me.
@@MUSICIANGeeK sure EQ, anyone would use that
@@MarcoRaaphorst Oh ya, & maybe even a bit of compression & reverb from F.O.H.
yes maybe or dry, I personally hate reverb on my guitar. I want it 100% dry when performing.
Johnson amps were the only (and the first)good modelers back in the days before line 6, then the tech was bought by line 6 and ruined for the next 10 years.lol
I was not aware of that. Never even heard of Johnson amps. Thanks a bunch for the info.
@@MUSICIANGeeK Just sold a Johnson Millenium awhile back, amazing amp but heavy as hell. John Johnson invented the tech, then sold out and never built anymore. Mine was a 1989.
@@troybrown7092 Cool. Hopefully you don't ever regret selling it lol
@@MUSICIANGeeK My back won't regret it , its with a close friend so never gone forever.
So the Valeton is an interface when you downloaded the ASIO VALETON DRIVER so why do you need another Interface with your DAW, do I need to buy another, my Scarlet took a dump I just bought the Valeton and a Headrush 112
I already had another interface. The Valeton does work as a interface yes, but no mic input for my voiceovers. If you are just doing Guitar, you can just use the Valeton for an interface. If you want to record 3 or more tracks at once, like I am with the left & right output to serprate tracks, & 1 vocal mic, you will need a larger interface like me
Which DAW are you using?
Cubase 8.5 pro. No post production at all. Just the Valeton.
Great jam! What electric drum are you using to get sounds of multiple pieces when you hit a pattern?
Thanks. I actually did a review on. It's the Kat KTMP1 th-cam.com/video/acEHjX1AKMs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rdAaxoRmc8crrPXq
i know im late 2 years but i wanna ask something, in pitch effect, can i use it for drop tune like digitech drop tune?
Sorry. Not sure.I gave this unit way on a contest here on thos channel. I would check for you if I still had it.
I cant bring myself to do a level and crown on anything more expensive than a squire.
I get it. My 1st instrument I started moding was a $108 Harley Benton Telecaster copy. Baby steps until you get more comfortable.
I like your intro it’s trippy
Thanks a bunch. It was my idea, but I am not a graphic designer/animator. So I gave the idea to my guy, & he did the logo/animation. I just recorded the music. I love the intro. Thanks again.
Just won mine from eBay . Audio interface as well , I hope the wah is decent .I won’t give up my behringer v amp just yet . 🐼
Nice. The Wah is pretty good. I use it. Hope you enjoy it. It's a great little unit.
Is there no stereo reverb in this unit?? Or is it just summed to mono for the vid?
Only a few of the Delays are in Stereo.
@@MUSICIANGeeK What about the reverbs?? They all sound mone here.
@@pbasswil They are Mono. The only Stereo effects are a few of the Delays
@@MUSICIANGeeK Thanks for the info, cheers.
@@pbasswil Absolutely, have a good one.
The axe fx does have a computer app
Really? Good to know. Thanks.
Great review im an old fahioned Amp and pedal guy. Can i run the stereo outputs into 2 different amplifiers, eg orange stamp and quilter super block set clean then out of each one to 2 seperate speaker cabs? To achieve a stereo rig? Cheers Martyn.
Thanks for the kind words. You could, .When using this unit with real amps. Turn off the Amp & Cab blocks. You don't want to run a amp & cab simulator into a real amp & cab. Then us the effects into the amp.
Firstly I must commend how nice your voice is, I'm gonna binge watch all the videos of B1X! I do have a question though regarding the unit as I will begin my bass journey soon- I got a Darkglass B3k as gift and I'm definitely going to use it but when you go down the pedal route, I understood I'd need a compressor and preamps and blah blah effects. So my question is 1.Can I use the Darkglass B3K with B1X/B1Xfour (for amp+cab sim and effects)? 2.Do I have to add a physical compressor pedal before the DG or can I route the B1X in such a way that the compressor is virtual, B3K pedal as it is and then into the amp+cab sim?
Thanks for the kind words. 1st off. You Technically don't "need" any of those things. It's all personal preference. Some players just like to go into a D.I. box straight to the mixing console, or to the front of the house. Some players like to just go straight from the bass to the amp. Other players like TONS of racks & pedals. You can absolutely use your Darkglass B3k into the B1 Four, & then use a virtual compressor, & then into a amp + cab. You can really use any combination you want. Not everyone will want it the same way. So, play around with it. Find how YOU like it. You might like compression, you might not. I hope this helps.
@@MUSICIANGeeK absolutely. Understood! Thanks a lot!
@@KrishnanR26 Absolutely. Cheers.
I want guitar sound like this. Can you tell me how to set dotted 8th delay on Valeton gp 100? (I just using it and try to set it for worship also.)
It actually has a tap tempo function. Also, you can set the tempo for any patch also, & have it sync with the tempo. Either of those 2 ways would work for you. Hope this helps.
The problem is, it's probably country crap landing up there.
Probably, but at least it's Guitar music. I'll take that all day love over Hip Hop or E.D.M.
Awesome demo 😎🤘🏻🎸 I really dig the effects on the valeton gp200. I personally liked the distortion and modulation effects. I’ve been thinking about purchasing one for my bass.
Absolutely grab one. Great little unit, & quite affordable for what you get. Thanks for the kink works & the comment.
@@MUSICIANGeeK sure thing…indeed I would like to get one. Especially since I’ve been curious about the valeton multi-effects processors. My other choice would definitely be either a hotone ampero or sonicake matribox 2
@@alexskibicki2262 All good choices. So many fantastic affordable units now that the technology has gotten better
Good commentary and I'm in agreement with most everything you stated. Interesting thing about Roundabout (and I had a discussion/disagreement with Josh over this). THERE IS NO "B" IN THE RIFF! Once in a while he kinda ghosts over the B but it isn't a regular part of the line. Check out the isolated bass slowly. No B. Everybody gets it wrong. (And I' d say there are more iconic bass parts than he demonstrated there).
I never actually learned Roundabout, just heard it a billion times lol. I'll take your word for it. Yea, I also agree with you on the fact that there are many more iconic basslines then watnwas featured here.
Beatles Come Together, Chili Peppers Higher Ground, Grand Funk's Aimless Lady, Jackson Five , I Want You Back, Fontella Bass, Rescue Me, Aerosmith, Sweet Emotion Jethro Tull , Living in the Past, Allman Brothers, Whipping Post, Iron Maiden, Wrathchild, Chic, Good Times, Freinds and Lovers Reach Out in the Darkness, Megadeath, Peace Sells, Thin Lizzy, The Boys Are Back in Town, Tower of Power What is Hip. To name a few.
@@NelsonMontana1234 I agree with all of those. Nice takes!!!
Perfect for a budget multi effect
Absolutely. A total beast at this price point.
Do i have to have my computer with me for live gigs? Can you not control or start drums with pedal buttons? All the reviews I’ve seen for this pedal have been run from computer using software….
You don't need your computer at all with this unit. They reason that I & many other users show/demo it with the software, is that its' just easier to edit & show the viewers with a screen capture software. Everything that is done with the software editor can be don on the actual unit without a computer. We all just find it easier to edit, & show people how it works that way.
@@MUSICIANGeeK Thank you very much! I’m just now getting into it and trying it out
@@TheBigcheese5150 Enjoy. Some great sounds.
I've mixed tons of records and I can tell you right now that 9 out of 10 times, the bass sounds terrible solo'd up, but absolutely kills in the mix.
That can actually be said about many elements in the mix. I have heard from Glenn Fricker that with heavy guitars, never mix them solo. Mix them in the FULL MIX!!! Don't try & mix solo'd up.
SBL fans must be mostly nickelback fans.

Can you move the noise gate wherever you want? I want to purchase nux mg300 but the only thing that concerns me is that the gate is fixed, can't be moved anywhere.
You can move ANY effects Bock anywhere you want in the signal chain. This was one of the selling points for this unit. Not a single block is fixed.
Have you both the patch and master volume at 99?
If that was the default settings, then yes. This is just a review/demo of the factory presets out of the box.
Listen, guy, aren't you tired of playing only the pentatonic scale for an hour?
Listen guy, aren't you tired of being a troll on the internet......for ....... probably far too long of a time? I remember when people didn't have to try to push people down to try & lift themselves up. Those were good times lol I hope your day gets better, & life in general. 🍭🍆🐴😂

As a guitar tech. I love these videos!! When the client damages their instrument after watching videos like this I have zero issue billing them full price. Keep it up. I’m happy to pay full price to techs to who talk me through the process and give me tips so I can try again next time! I love doing stuff myself but the beginning of that path usually begins with some expensive mistakes!
O.K., a little left & a right turn in that comment there lol Not sure how to react lol
All the techs and repair guys of note in my area have bad attitudes , kinda like you,and don’t answer my questions. The most reputable one gave me back my acoustic with buzzing after setting it up/ lowering the action-too much apparently. He didn’t offer any fret work or even explain to me what could be done. He just told me I can try to adjust the truss rod. I have no one I would trust to do any work on my guitars. This is why I need to take matters into my own hands. No one is going to take the time and care for my guitar like me. This is why a tool like this is good. Starting with set ups I am done with these dudes.
@@nathanwhite617 I and my staff happily share our knowledge and teach our clients how to work on their instruments. My point that I must have not made clear with my op was I used to feel bad for clients who watched TH-cam videos and damaged their instruments because they were sold tools that can ‘ magically’ replace decades of experience and multiple Thousands of dollars of tools. I now no longer offer them discounts. I charge full price and provide the knowledge and when I fix their self created issues. 🖖
@@MUSICIANGeeK My point was not conveyed in the manner I meant. Apologies to all that mistake by me upset. Please read my reply to Nathanwhite617. I genuinely care about our clients. I take the time to show them what issues are let them watch and learn from our decades of experience. 🖖
I thought it was about the band tool. 😂
Technically....It's a tool that fixes an instrument that you play in a band......so.....kind of lol
Michigan here... just starting a business where I buy broken / discarded / abused guitars and I bring them back to playing condition. I agree with your comments to start on inexpensive guitars first and to go slow. After restoring just over twenty guitars I learned something new and had to go back and check / work on all the ones I thought were ready to go. I like finding out about tools that make my jobs easier. I have the fret kisser and it is a huge bonus in time saving and getting really dialed in action. I have the Safe Zone Guitar Fret Crowning File on my short list of tools to buy next. Thanks for covering Phil's video on the tool.
Sounds like a cool business. Thanks for the kind words. Phill is really good with this stuff, & me just getting into repairs, he has been a valuable resource. I'm gonna grab both of those tools also. Slowly building up a decent Guitar repair tool kit

@@alexskibicki2262 Almost too much sometimes. Option paralysis lol Sometimes I just fall in deep & obsess for hours on sounds, & don't really make it much better. 1st instincts are usually the best.
This entire B1 Four playlist got me subscribed to you, I really appreciate the time you took to test out the details <3
Thanks a bunch. Glad the video was of value to you.
nice done
Thanks for watching/commenting.
You forgot one.
Really, which one? If so sorry. Never noticed.
Love your channel just subscribed, I bought a used Boss rc20 years ago that never worked right, I’m still trying to get another looper as I’m trying to set up like you do your looping as a hobby. If you wouldn’t mind would you tell me the drum pad you use. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Welcome to the wonderful world of live looping. The drum pad I am currently using is a Kat KTMP1 Electronic Drum Pad. I actually did a review of it a few weeks ago. Link below. th-cam.com/video/acEHjX1AKMs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=74iALshOWTh3I44m
Thanks for this comprehensive video. Quick question: I noticed that when a pedal is simulating one from Boss, Valeton doesn't mention it. I wonder why that is.
Hi. Thanks so much. I am not sure. I am just guessing here, but maybe for copyright/legal reasons?
