Keep the names!

I'm an Australian with welsh ancestry on my father's side that dates back thousands of years and I find it's terrible they're changing welsh places to English and esp. Lake Australia ... Why not just have the English names underneath like in many other countries??

“Nameless cwm” has always struck me as the most offensive. Lake Australia I can at least understand how it happened but calling it nameless is sticking your fingers in your ears and saying lalalala.

Im from wales and i live in Canada. Only since living there and learning about the colonization of the indiginous cultures did i realize that is what has happened to mine. I have a little boy i want to learn Cymraeg for him. And help keep our culture alive. Thank you for leaving such inspirational comments

I am English but I think you should keep all your Welsh names. All words contain history. If you don't then all that time I spent in front of a mirror practising Llanelli will have been wasted!

Had lovely holiday 30yrs ago at a farm conversion called Maes Gwyn. Think it means White Field. River Gwili is beautiful. Rode on Gwili stream train. Just expanding by enthusiasts. Dad loved Wales in 50s take us over the wonderful old Transporter Bridge across R Mersey (boundary river) to Lake Ogwen. Tryfan. Holiday in Llandonna, Ynys Mon, 1959 oil lamps, not in National Grid. Down Lane for water. Bontnewydd possibly new bridge? Stayed in Hook, R. Gleddau etc Liverpool age 84

Names just change, either good or bad. Cable Bay replaced the Welsh place name but it was called something else even before that Welsh place name.

I wish he'd have the balls to state the obvious, that the issue is ENGLISH MIGRANTS coming to Wales and not respecting out language and place names. It's not Welsh people making these name changes....

Brilliant video!!! We keep our Welsh Place Names, reverse the English versions by reinstating the old Welsh Names. Not only have we lost much of our history, we have an untold history until Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett.

I cannot believe anyone would think it ok to change the original and ancient names of places in Wales. I'm Australian but my Grt Grt Grandfather was from Drefach in SW Wales and his son, James travelled to Australia in 1859. I'm very proud of my Welsh heritage and I hope the language & place names are never changed. It would be a travesty.

On the topic of *Llyn Bochlwyd* being called _Australia Lake:_ I don't mind places having optional English names for English speakers. It doesn't matter whether they call it *Bannau Brycheiniog* or the _Brecon Beacons,_ in the same way _Cardiff_ and _Swansea_ are called *Caerdydd* and *Abertawe,* respectively. They have a Welsh name and an English name. Fine. However, what were they thinking by calling it _Australia Lake?_ If they wanted an English name for their travel guides and for the tourists, why not call it _"Grey Cheek Lake?"_ That is an honest translation and will still entice people to ask for the story behind that name.

First we have to stop referring to ourselves as Welsh and saying we are from Wales. These words are English words. Short of us using the words Cymru and Cymro we should at least start calling ourselves British. Our main problem is we have no knowledge of self - it has been taken away from us through centuries of English cultural propaganda and brain- washing. How much Welsh history and culture did we leatn in school? Basically we learned English history and most Welsh people think being Welsh is wearing a leek or daffodil on St David's Day. We have had devolution for years now but not a finger has been lifted to change anything.

Activists needing to change names in Wales starting with angelsey back to yns Mon can't wait for Wales as cymru as that is not Wales that what English called it ? More or not some activists will tell me I'm wrong

My ancestors were from Wales, England and Ireland, inter-married, mixed marriages (Catholic and Protestant) and love the culture! I have tried to learn, but it's hard for my mind to retain unless submerged in it!! Thinking Scots Gaelic and Irish Gaelic need preservation, too!!

I do not agree with the changes. I believe Wales should stand its ground on this matter. Our heritage, including original place names, should remain unchanged. It's a matter of respect.

I would love to have welsh names in England and corrected translations in Wales. I want to see more of England and Wales accepting each other’s culture more.

Unacceptable, sacrilege to cater to the English and give up our own especially since our names are so descriptive and tied to our topography and history.

I find that other cultures have respect for the welsh language except for some English people. whenever I have heard someone belittling the welsh language (and other languages), it has been from an English person. Pure hypocrisy and ignorance from (probably) the worlds youngest-language speakers

Even if you cannot pronounce the Welsh names. Why is there not a simple story on a plaque under the names of places. The Welsh is translated to English on all Road signs, having a plaque near towns , villages, places of interest, would give everyone who visited a short history of the place.

I am partly Welsh and fondly remember visiting relatives in Northern Wales as a child. Though I have never lived in Wales, I loved it there. If you loose your language you loose your culture and become a footnote to history. Keep the Welsh, teach the Welsh... heck why not require bilingualism! Here in Canada everything is in French and English for that reason.

Would be heartbreaking and an embarrassing loss for the world, if the Welsh language was lost like this. Stand up and fight back Wales!

Cwm Cneifion. Koom kinavion is not difficult to pronounce and means something like fleece valley, either because the rocks look somewhat like tufts of wool or because shearing was carried out there. Cwm survives in many English names as comb, combe, coombe.
