MILWAUKEE M12 DIE GRINDER VS. MATCO SCRAPER SET #TOOLHAUL #ICON #TOOLREVIEW #TOOLS
Do you know why you never see hammer marks on the side of a SnapOn socket? Because anyone using that SnapOn socket knows they paid too much to even consider hitting it with a hammer. Apparently, ICON sockets don’t warrant such reservations.
I get it. We spend so much on tools to perform our craft. But I would take it to Home Depot they will warranty it if they have them in stock. If not mail it in. Maybe you just got a bad batch. If you warranty them and you get another bad batch then you would definitely have to consider spending your hard earned money elsewhere. But simply getting 1 bad batch of wrenches doesnt mean Gearwrench products are junk.
I will make sure you never work on my vehicle.. you could have easily used the breaker bar to break that bolt loose..
Im glad I bought OLSA tools instead of ICON. You can tell the difference in qaulity just looking at them. My ICON bit sockets have been a massive disappointment.
It isn't the chrome that is soft; it is the steel. The chrome plating is adhering to the steel and not flaking off. All chrome vanadium steel is not created equal. Of course, you may have just encountered a couple of items made of steel containing impurities or that weren't properly heat treated (and that does happen). The Snap-on website indicates that its hand tools are made "from a steel alloy that's become the gold standard. This special blend of steel allows for a higher heat treat than average steel - meaning each tool gets a specified hardness for the right toughness and strength you need in each application." Thank you for providing your observations on real world use of Icon tools.
I’m getting some of their big 6 pointers.
Have you never heard of warranty?!? Get a new one.
I've just baught a new set, the gearwrench x beam reversible ratchet set, straight out of the box one ratchet lever has no spring, it just swings left and right, another ratchet the reverse lever is literally dangling out!! Fkn junk, I'm returning it now and getting my 300$ back.
Great design, GearWrench is just making sure that the wrench maintenance process is hassle free and smooth. 15 years using Blackhawks, not an issue, never had the need to buy GWs.
Buy sockets with a quality warranty tool because the problem with buying cheap sockets is after 10 years you end up with a thousand sockets
I break my snap-on and matco tools just as often. Only difference is they cost 4x as much and I can run to HF or wait a week for the truck to run around my area.
Your smoking crack. The back of that impact socket you showed us was all beat to hell.
Half of Snap on is now made in China
Not sure im buying this review. Those ICONs seem pretty good.
Update please
Another snap on fan boy😂. Keep throwing away all your money for a name
i find it funny how you claim these are not lifetime tools like snap on. they're life time due to warranty, same as snap on etc. as a master tech with plenty of snap on tools and icon, guess what? i have more broken snap on tools than icon, my dealer wont warranty while harbor freight welcomes me with open arms. for most people snap on is not worth it, if you dont have a snap on dealer, guess what your doing for a warranty? send it to snap on and pay for shipping. snap on is a complete joke and techs justify purchases because of slight better "quality". go let your snap on tools diagnose a vehicle and tell me how useful they are.
If you have icon socket it will be fine. I beat on my Pittsburgh socket from Harbor freight, and it is fine. I never used my chrome socket. I have them but I used impact tool, power tools so I always used my impact socket. The only time I have to used chrome socket is in tight spot. But I’m a diesel tech, so something there a lot more room to work. An the only thing that is compare work just as good as snap on was the USA made craftsman socket. Yes at one point in time when Sears was still around, chrome Craftmen socket was made in the USA
Snap ons are not all that great I have broken every snap on socket and ratchet I have owned too and for the price they sell them for they are not worth that much money at every single tool I have that is snap on has been warrantied more than 10 times each mean while I have used Chinese Premium and Vietnam tools that well have never broken over the 40 years I have been in the industry for example the new Pliers snap on has out I broken them firs day on a brake spring ... so snap on s not any better mostly for teh price the should last a life time and never need to be warrantied ever ........ you pay $25000+ in sockets and ratchets alone only to be replacing them every couple weeks and having to wait for a Truck to com buy to replace them VS $5000 in Premium Chines or Vietnams Sockets and never having to replace them ever .. and yes there are Premium toosl made over seas that beat the hell out of American and Canadian made tools .....TONE is one of them and you will know Premium by the Price tag as they will bot be as exspencive as Snap on or Grey tools but will cost 5-20 time that of the Cheap China you se on Amazon or Harbor Freight
Obviously you are a kid
It has been on an impact, and that is what happens to any chrome socket on an impact, even your over priced Snap On. Abuse a tool and guess what?
I warranteed ny icon sockets for peeling chrome. The early batches were known to have poor plating. All good since.
I have the Icon crome sockets and I use them every day on my Dewalt 3/8 drive impact and they are holding up awesome
Icon works for me. You obviously damaged it by misuse. How would a socket get damaged on the top where no pressure is? Who is using a 7/16 anyway? Every car I see uses metric. If you foolishly pay 5x for another brand that’s up to you. Get over it.
Bro you keep you’ll never have to buy it again…. Guess what? Same thing with Icon and Pittsburgh stuff; the lifetime warranty has been tried and true. And I’ve been surprised by even the Pittsburgh stuff, after 7-8yrs have only had one ratchet skip and a few bit sockets (torx ones, twist) and they were easily replaced without a hassle. Gave up on snap-on prices and tool truck making rounds long time ago
"What am I going to do with it" uhhhh lifetime warranty. Cry harder
We're losing to China 🇨🇳 its a huge scam. No real lifetime warranty. Buying USA takes some real work as well. We need to turn the oil 🛢 ON in America or we're going to lose it! China is moving in!! Vote 🗳 YES to Freedom 🐘🐘🐘🇺🇸
*Promo SM*
Looks like you beat the crap out of that socket with a hammer, you are definitely a snap on fan boy
Speed up the transition from picture to picture, I couldn’t see the problem.
Been there ,done that
Yes sir grave roadside service I know it too well
Snap off is not what it used to be js
Chrome on the impact is rough...
I prefer Parsons girls not a big fan of slammed it over on sullivant lol
Considering how good the Hercules line has been, I was hoping the Icon would also be premium quality. Sadly, that just doesn’t seems to be the case. Thanks for the review.
I use kobalt and duralast sockets with my impact, and they're holding up better than those icon.
Do they have the locking 3/8 long handle flex head ratchet without the quick release button and I also am going to eventually get the plain comfort grip handle 3/8 non quick release button ratchet.
Alot of snap on and mattco special socket types are manufactured by lisle
I love the rather in the holder with icon
Bought mine and there snug not like yours .Also you have to always use a breaker bar first with these wrenches neither side ment for breaking stuff loose .
Worst chrome job of any socket I’ve ever used, the chrome peels off like a bad sunburn.
I'm just here for your algorithm
I can say for sure snap-on impact socket do not last a life time, if they do it’s because of the lifetime warranty.
GOOD TO KNOW.. THATS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW. THANKS BUDDY
Looks like you hammered on that socket and the wrench🤣 are you incompetent? You know that's what service wrenches are for right??
Those reversible ratcheting combo wrenches are OEMed from GearWrench. That's why they are so good and holding up. That's GearWrench's patented design that first came out in the late 1990s. I was an early adopter back then and was very impressed with a metric set. Held up well against my regular USA Craftsman combo wrenches. Pulled a tranny to swap a clutch, suspension and axle work, and dropped an Audi, and then a BMW diff with them. Numerous timing belt jobs and wheel bearings. None slipped or rounded off.
Lol, that is improper use and abuse. This kid could make any tool look like hell.
that bolt on most calibers are a bitch to remove with a 1/2 in drive ratchet ,useing any 3/8 ratchet will break even snap on
"This chrome is very, very soft" ...Compared to the ball peen hammer that he used to get a clickbait video. The damage on the end faces is likely from where he clamped the socket in a vise while supporting it underneath, so that he could pound on the side with a hammer to get that dent. And why would it "waller out" in one corner only?
