What is the best part of the lake to fish for these lake trout and how deep? I have a trip planned for April 2025 due to this video! Thank you
I launch at sunset camp ground and fish wear from there. Right now I would target 100+ feet of water. Next April fish the edges where deep water comes up to shallow shelf’s. Look for the marks and run right through them. The spring can vary from top lining Lyman’s to running the 70-100ft down. Tight lines!!
@@Fishnmoreoutdoors thank you!
When was this filmed? The smoke looks bearable, so just wondering if it's worth a trip over there. I've been told Crane Prarie smoke is thick as soup, so maybe up to Paulina or down to Diamond?
It was last week. It varies day to day. Most days have been tolerable. Crane has been a bit worse. Diamond was closed, I haven’t heard if it is open yet. Tight lines!!
@@Fishnmoreoutdoors I saw an article yesterday that Diamond was open again.
@@ShaneMaxey-ny2jr. Good deal!!

Great job!!
Thank you!
I had forgotten about that “intentional” cast up into the light to charge up the lure before it landed.. cause my darn fingers were frozen and I couldn’t feel the line🤦🏼♂️ then I actually hooked one 🤣😂🤣😂
Hey it worked! 😂😂
I have used a 2 ounce and 3 ounce Cannon Ball Sinker from time to time and it has worked good it's a little easier than using my downrigger that looks pretty shallow you have to pay attention to what you're doing ha ha
Tight lines!
Nice fish im still averaging at least two big browns per trip at diamond...it has slowed a bit but still plenty productive...im catching all mine long lining 150'+ back no weight.Lymans and maglips 👍🏾
Nice!
How deep were you fishing those spoons
I fished various depths, but almost all fish were caught running them 5-10ft down on the down rigger or top lining on the planner with no weight.
@@Fishnmoreoutdoorsthanks I’m planning on going up there next weekend
I hope you do well!! Tight lines!
Fun multispecies day. Good day on the pond. Great to keep memories alive, they become treasures.

Good comparison. Nice catches. Good early morning bite.
Thanks!! Tight lines!!
Nice info! 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Loved this video, Ammon! sure beats working.
Yes it does! Thanks!!
What speed works for you?
I run 1-1.5 depending on the day. 1.2 is where I spend the most time.
Thanks. Good content on how to bend dodgers for different effects.
Thanks for watching tight lines!
What time did you start fishing?
I think I had lines in the water at 4:45-4:50. Legal fishing time was 4:35.
If you don't mind sharing, what were you guys running with? Rapala's?
No Rapalas. Lyman lures and mag lips.
Well done guys! Thanks for putting them to use. Need to get you down to Cali for some bass!
Thanks! Yes, we do!

Yes!👍🏻
@Fishnmoreoutdoors looking at picking up a couple of rods, which did you like better the Ninja or the Samurai?
For Kokanee on downriggers the ninja, I have caught trout up to 5Ibs on this rod without trouble. For Kokanee on dropper weights and trout, sockeye, and anything up to 10 ibs the samurai. I have landed a 15 ib laker on the samurai… that was pushing it. The only disadvantage of the samurai is it is not as sensitive on small Kokanee as the ninja. Honestly both are great rods you can’t go wrong!!!
Well done guys. Have you fished the old Lyman plugs? Do you find a difference between them and the new plastic ones?
I have not fished the old Lyman plugs. I had intended to get my hands on a few, but the new ones catch so many fish I never got around to buying any wood ones. Thanks for watching, and tight lines!
Just got this as a Lost Creek, what are your thoughts on opening up the drive and lubricating it with a plastic safe grease?
My understanding is that is not recommended. It is designed to lubricate and cool with the lake water. That is what the small port holes on the side of the riser are for. You could contact mako for further information.
Out of curiosity, what lake? Nice to see an expirement on th two.
That was at Paulina lake in central Oregon.
I thought the red dot frog or the disco frog might work well on that lake.. thanks for the content.. enjoyed the video😉
Thanks for watching! Tight lines.
Another nice fishing session! 👍👍👍
Thanks JU!!
Is there any update on the kayak? How has it held up? Any issues?
Overall it has been good. Here is my review after one season. I will do another after this season. th-cam.com/video/6Be7JVfkvoU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gjcpnYz_NndLDLL_
Also, I’m looking for some better lures then Rapala ..can I cast and retrieve these things ? River & lake ( Lyman’s) thank you 😊
Absolutely!! They cast like a bullet. I take off the front hook on the 4 inchers. This is casting a 4 incher th-cam.com/video/9ffu2r-Y2I0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0otO3xswZHFE0rVH This is casting a 2 incher th-cam.com/video/_QrBGUHeXEI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VAPTZbsuToqF5bwz
Hell, yeah you’re tearing them up. Hey, if I didn’t have a downrigger, do you think I can like attach a 2 ounce weight or something and troll a lure rowing around on my pontoon boat? We had our camping trip at Crescent Lake my first time there and my first time ever fishing for Mackinaw I got a pounder… God I was so excited.
Awesome congrats on the fish!! You can do it with out a down rigger. I use a 6-8 oz clip weights in the kayak. This link is one of multiple videos I have in the yak. th-cam.com/video/v2rmu1z729o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=stLOwSxCPLqJThq1
Nice fish! What lake are you at ? Can’t put my finger on it. Paulina maybe?
Cultus. It is a bit more inconsistent and produces smaller fish than other lakes, but it is often fishable when other lakes are too windy.
Nice...lyman plugs are really tough to beat. Thats coming from an old Rapala die hard too. They just have better action. End of story...👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I agree!! They have better action at a wide range of speeds, and are far more durable!!
Pretty clear which draws strikes the most.
Yes it was!!
Can’t find the samurai. Links would be nice. I did buy the ninja from sportsman though.
They are added to the description.
Thanks
Do you ever add cherry jello? Thanks for the video
I haven’t. Good idea for a simple color change. Thanks.
Another nice video! How long was your setback?
100ft Thanks for watching.
I am sorry to see Kokanee at Crain Prairie I guess I am old school. When I fished it many years ago it had Rainbow and Brown trout then Large Mouth Bass were introduced which we tolerated. Kokanee were in other Century Drive lakes. Now they apparently are the premier fish in Oregon.
I’m curious what it is you don’t like about Kokanee in Crane Prairie?
What was your rod/reel set up? Thanks again!
I believe I was using the velocity samurai and an Okuma convector or Magda line counter.
@@Fishnmoreoutdoors, you said a heavier set up. Medium/ fast action?
@@KayakFishingSoCal. Sorry you are correct this trip I’m using my Okuma GLT downrigger rods. They are a medium heavy trolling rod. I am using the Okuma convector line counter reel.
Nice Laker! How do you calculate depth/getting your lure to desired depth?
I clip on 6-8 oz and just experiment with setbacks. Really just trial and error.
@@Fishnmoreoutdoors, I just watched your video, "How to troll 4 rods for Kokanee without downrigger..." from a year ago. You referenced a chart to calculate depth. This is what I was inquiring about. A way to calculate depth of your lure. Do you think this chart is accurate, or do you think it's trial/error/inconsistent because you were using 6oz? Thanks again!
it is accurate at 1-1.3 mph, but the faster you go the shallower they run that is where I just use trial and error. The chart is a good reference/starting point.
Yeah, if you aren’t adding scent to Gulp, then I don’t see it being a real comparison. I use the Pautzke Fire Corn and it works good as-is, but much better with scent added as I go. I’m surprised to see how long your leader is with simple hoochie, but it’s also hard to argue with the amount of hits you were getting. Great scenery as well. You have some great lakes in OR for koke fishing, we head to La Pine in May the past few yrs and love it. Keep it up, you obviously are enjoying yourself!
The corn and gulp are scented the exact same way. I do 8 inch leaders on most hoochies occasionally I will shorten to 6, but don’t believe it increases the bite. These were not plain hoochies, they are plankton spinners from Rocky Mountain tackle. I run my spinners at 16 inches.
Also I have used the pautzke fire corn. I like making my own as I believe I can get firmer and more scent in when I do my scent method. The pautzke is nice that it is shelf stable. Same with the gulp maggots.
Interesting. Have you tried scenting that Gulp corn with Bloody tuna? If your shoepeg is scented it's only fair. Love these comparison videos.
They both have the exact same scents.
Was there anyone else out on the lake, is the restaurant open?
There were a few other kayaks and boats out there. The restaurant is open. Thanks.
@@Fishnmoreoutdoors perfect, I'm on my way, Grammy Mermaid 🧜♀️
What depth were you dropping the down riggers?
Usually 5-10ft at Diamond lake.
@@Fishnmoreoutdoors Thanks for the reply! what weight on the down rigger?
@@charleshill9835 for shallow stuff like that I am only using a small 6 ib that is what I use for shallow Kokanee also. I use a 10 ib ball for my deeper and faster speed trolling. Anything heavier than that is miserable on manual downriggers IMHO. Thanks.
