I sang this for my first born every night to put her to bed. She loved it and still loves it. She is 34 yrs now. She just send this link for me today. It brings back memories.

I'm 58 and learned the words to this song by playing it over and over again on the record player. The alblum had two other heartwrenching songs that I remember little Blossom and me and little Andy. I still remember all the lyrics to all 3. And istill cry everytime I sing them. Over the years they've reminded me that my childhood wasn't as bad as i sometimes thought it to be!

My mom showed me this as a child. I remember it making me sad, but I was too young for it to really hit me. I loved it so much I sang and played it constantly every day. I know, in my heart, my mom showed me this song because it represented her youth. She eventually asked me to stop, and now as an adult I feel like I know why. I was reminding her too much. My mother is still around but is very physically and mentally ill. I now listen to this song with such a broken heart for my mom and the girl she was and what she had to endure. I love her so much.

The first time i heard this song it absolutely TWISTED my throat. Now it's my favourite Dolly catch. And i've known others to like it as well.

I love this song. Truly. But the kid and dog died for no reason. Not one reason for the kid in a ragged dress to have the energy to ask for a bed and candy and just that night… they both die!?!? Hahaha it’s hilarious in a way.
