Quint 1836
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ก.ค. 2015
Hey everybody, My name is Brooks, the host of "Quint 1836". The name comes from 2 places, the character Quint from Jaws, and 1836 is the year Texas gained independence from Mexico. I'm an automotive technician that daily drives a 1974 Ford F-250 Ranger SuperCab. It was my grandfather's farm truck, and when he passed away I inherited it. It's been a boatload of work to get it running how it does today, but man has it been fun. You'll learn some great automotive tips, advice, and ALWAYS laugh (mostly at me). Take care, God bless America, and remember its gotta be - Built Ford Tough.

I drive/maintain my '65 F100 which I had a 300 put in. I ran 240's for 39 yrs. Put a set of the efi exh. mnflds on. Wow...the difference in power was amazing ! That motor went 169,000 miles. I always changed the 10 w30 oil at or a little b4 3,000 miles got on the oil. The motor lasted 27 yrs. Now five yrs later...the 300 is even stronger with the same efi exh. mnflds. Brilliant there is No timing chain. I use Shell Rotella 15w40 for oil. I was suggested to use it by a guy who is a west coast dragracer. It is for diesel engines. The 300 likes it fine. I have 60 PSI at first when the motor first fires up. After running a little, the oil pressure goes down to 55 running, 40 at idle.

Mines has 337,300 miles and my tranny just broke on me on the freeway today 😢
Every time I see one of these I forget that this was Ralph Kramden back then. He is much older now but if you seen The Honeymooners enough you can still see some of the things his character Ralph did.
Amazing video, I’ve just picked up a 1979 f150 straight 6 in the uk. New to working on vehicles but in the trades so good with my hands. Looking forward to learning. One of the jobs I wanted to do was change the air filter but realised I’d need a new carb and intake manifold, looking at yours it looks like it fits the standard carb. What is the one you’re running? Thanks!
This song is such a heavenly bop!
I'm not a big fan of the "cold air intakes" but in this case you'd be slightly better off with it because your paper filter over your manifold allows heat to heat your incoming air for the intake and that's..for every 10 degrees hotter you lose 1% efficiency power and mileage. Since you have a wet manifold it helps compensate. The fuel will cool the air to some degree. Might not be worth your trouble or expense IDK. Like I said I don't normally like cold air intakes because the factory box up near the bumper is actually the coolest and best place for the filter to start with but you know the salesmen with the twisted marketing hype makes it sound like 20 more HP and 4 more mpg LoL. But on carbureted engines this is where a cold intake filter up near the bumper and even an insulated hose might make some kind of difference.
Andy always smiles when he is singing and playing music. Other times he seems much more serious.
Sounds awesome Broski!!!
Yes sir, very cool. I love my 94 red lightning
Oh nice! I always loved those!
@@Quint1836 it's the one with the tube bumper also, all original, and looks great/runs great.
@RANGER2021 oh nice!! That's badass man!
Sounds good
Thank you!
Where get the air cleaner? I can't find any aftermarket ones that fit.
Damn Ford power steering pump!
I think I seen this truck on Reddit lol
❤
300 I6 is a great engine. Pros - Reliable, lots of torque down low, and easy to repair. Cons - Inefficient, and slow. You can upgrade these with manifolds, carbs, cams, springs, ignition, and gain quite a bit of power without tearing into the block.
They are actually very efficient, they are just underpowered. But stump pulling torque!
Outstanding
I believe the 240 was used until 1974.
I recently bough 1983 F250 and this video is very informative. Where can I send you a message if I have any questions?
Jerry Reed is ok as the bandit and snowman
The incredible ongoing influence of Lefty Frizzell continues to this very day! George Jones. Buck Owens. Merle Haggard. Marty Robbins. Randy Travis. George Strait. Keith Whitley. Johnny Rodriguez. Dwight Yoakam. All owe Him a huge stylistic debt. And so will many in the future.🤔😊🎤🎼🎵🎶🎸🎹🎻🥁B.W.
Andy said he sang on Matlock too
I hear the water pump or the alternator
It's the exhaust rubbing the frame. About to redo it
Ford never had a 5.8 son so figure 0ut your knowledge or learn how to type
5.8 351 Windsor bud......
What carburetor is the one you have? I want to change mine. Any recommendations for after market that will fit well . Thank you
I have the factory YF carburetor
You know a good technician when he had spund effects. The machine will speak if you know how to listen! 🎉
Was it easy to remove and replace? I have a 1970 F250 and just bought an inline filter like yours to install. Also, there’s another filter by the pump underneath?
That’s illegal NOOOOO
Quint. That was something I wish I had tried to do 3 years ago, good job little man. BTW I’m 68 years old. How did Opie get 3 more shots from a 6 gun? Or 5 gun in the case of a 45 caliber pistol? Loved it though!
Well you got another new subscriber with this one here. Thanks for the upload. Great walk-through of the i6. Is a coil a name for ignition transformer?
352 was not a “Y” Block. 352 is an FE family engine. 240 in production through 1974 model year in trucks.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Biden 2025 my guy
Hahahahahaha
Both of these engines were bulletproof.
Those 300 sixes were very good engines along with the 240 sixes. They look identical. The 240 6 cylinders were more common in the late 1960's until the mid 1970's
O'Reillys and thrush mufflers that's good stuff 👌
Two legends. Travis lost his voice, but it's nice hearing him from way back with Mr. Griffith.
Great video thanks. I’ve got an 82 that I recently purchased with the intent of learning more about engines. The engineering that powers our world is amazing.
Amen brother
Did you preposition the cam by bumping the starter ? Or will thr pump go in reguardless of cams position. I think when you cut the video you got the cam in position when you said it would not go in. The position of the cam and getting cam in position should have been showen as it is the meat and potatos of the video. Also you should use a line wrench as the b-nut can be rounded using a adj wrench or open end. My nut even started to round with a line wrench.Dont ask me how I know. I did this job last week. The nut was so tight I removed the pump with the fuel line still connected to the pump. I put the pump in the vice and slid a 5 point box end over the line to the nut. It was so tight it made a loud pop when it broke loose, It must have been the original pump on this 79 Ford 300 ci. I have.
Hard to find a hot dog for under four bucks these days

It is too bad Woody Guthrie could appear on Andy's show in the 60s.
Not to intrude on this finger pointing that's going on. But if I remember correctly it was also the last film of Richard Boone as well. As for hero Movie hero absolutely. Personal hero not quite. My biggest personal hero is my 94 year-old dad who fought in 2 wars Korea & Vietnam and quite frankly to this very day is the rock of his family. This is a man who buried his eldest son who fought in Vietnam and has been married to my mother for 72 years. I don't need John Wayne to see what a hero is. Every time I go home I see one
