Love all the hanging baskets. Having a hard time with mine due to excessive heat, lack of rain & Japanese beetles. As usual another fab video.
Very nice walk, thanks guys. Cheers from San Diego
What a lovely village, wish I lived there.
Shit hole Sutton 😒
Why are Racecourses-in The North Packed and Southern Courses almost Empty apart From the Derby Meeting And Goodwood oh and Royal Ascot(THOUGHT PEOPLE UP TER NORTH HAD NO MONEY}
Do they spend it all on the horses?
Absolutely should do it, get it laminated by a decent printer and it should last for a while. Reference the fact that you've done them
Chuckled! Didn't know there were bylaws? Have a bash doing your own maps, just don't get into trouble. Nice seeing some horse racing on the course other than the Spring meet & Derby. Do they still do a fall meet? Apologies, I still have to watch your Canal Walk, hence no comments.
Yes. The bylaws are what stop me from flying a drone over the downs if I’m not a member of the downs flying club and at least one other member is present. It looks like the horse racing goes though until the season finale in late September according to their website at the moment.
@@SimonPain Wonder if you can fly kites on that note?
There is a specific kite-flying area included in the bylaws if I remember correctly.
The whole setup for the beginning of the race, including loading all the horses, is included as an extra video here: th-cam.com/video/R6TX-u_sdG4/w-d-xo.html
@@SimonPain wasn't in the old days. I only did it once as I was terrified, I'd take off into the air.
Our Town, Our Turf, I ♥️ Burnley.
I watched the first 4 chapters, will come back for the others . I followed a canal boat, couple of gay guys, for a couple of years "foxes afloat". Amazing all the commerce that shipped and received bulk goods before the steam engine . Very interesting, Cheers
I worked as waiter at the India palace between 89-90 . Russell hill parade. Lovely area back then brilliant atmosphere back then. Times have changed still looks nice. Looking forward to coming to see Purley soon.
Good Job as Always
Excellent.

Lastly, thanks for all your videos. Got in touch with my old (she's 9-10 years older than me) Dressage trainer @ Wildwoods. I sent her the link of you passing by it in one of your videos. Her Mother has written some books one of which I got for my 60th Birthday last month. In it are three of the horses I used to ride and train on. Major Happy Memories. Oh..., it's mentioned that now the busses from the Epsom Derby races can't vacate the Downs via that track across the gallops to Ebersham Lane up to Walton-on-the Hill. Is that something just done for the races? It is a narrow lane! I actually had an unpleasant accident on that road. Wondering.
I don’t think any vehicle access is allowed over that way any more at all. They get the AA to signpost 2 or 3 routes out depending on where you’re going.
@@SimonPain Interesting! Not a bad idea really. I had some twat years ago revving the engine of their car that sent my horse into those very high blackberry hedges. Came out looking something from a horror movie covered in blood. See if you can get, "Legs, Legs, Legs" by Justine Dowley-Wise. through used book vendors. If you can the story of the New Zealander proposing to his future wife @ Walton Pond is precious.
Fabulous Simon. Worth the wait and so very much enjoyed watching this.
You should if you can do Brooklands, near Weybridge. Went there one year with my late mother. She was on the board for the Vintage/Veterans cars. The ones behind the London to Brighton rally. There was obviously some car event, and we climbed the bank @ Brooklands to get a better view. Problem was when it came time to go down, I froze. I couldn't get down the steep bank. So, we landed up jumping off the other side wearing dresses and having to walk back to get through the entrance, back to the event.
They moved the bus stop on the downs. You could get on at Tattenham Corner though there was no shelter or go down the hill, turn right and the next stop was on the left (sharp) with a shelter. The new one seems to be past what was formerly known as the Bernie Inn.
The Bus stop @ Tadworth was right next to the train station.
I don't know how the heck my Nana & I traveled in them with a wicker trolley of food (fresh fruit & veg markets) and bags. Then that long walk down Epsom Lane North. So happy when I passed my driving test!
Interesting to see Barclays Bank still in the same place.
Yup, I did the green 406 to Epsom or Kingston from Tattenham corner or from Tadworth to Reigate. Used it also to go to school or Art College in Epsom. The upper floor always stank of stale cigarettes with many butts or burns on the seats and there could be some other unsuitable stuff up there. I'll leave that to your imagination. Tricky riding the top coming back from Epsom to get off at Tattenham Corner. You'd pull the string/bell to tell the driver to stop and prepare your way down the staircase. The turn up to the Tattenham Corner bus stop was and still is sharp and steep. One false move and you could fall down the stairs and go flying out the non-doors.
Memory’s, i think they were red coloured that came up Merland Rise and stopped at the end of Bidhams Crescent (where we lived), they ran every 15 minutes as i recall. Circa 1962 my friends and i went to a Joke shop in Croyden to buy stink bombs, on the way back we sat on the top, front seats and opened the front window vents to test a stink bomb out, we cleared the bus out at the next stop and were summarily ejected from the bus in front of an unhappy bunch of riders. The most disgusting smell, but still a fond memory of childish mirth. Cheers.
Remember Merland Rise.
How absolutely lovely. I knew this area well, back in the late 1940s, early 50s, did a lot of cycling around there. Although I resided in Reading my fathers parents & sister lived down Loop Road, Kingfield Green. I remember often going to the first group of shops on your left to a CO-OP which appears to be absent now. Just a bit further on, the left road leads to Rydens Way which was Council years back. One could gain access to that along Stockers Lane opposite Kingfield House which you did not cover. Towards the end of your journey you passed by what would have been the entrance to Unwins (Gresham Press) to the right where my grandfather worked for years & my father until he moved, with my mother to Reading, where he continued in the print trade until retirement. Also to the left you would have Hipley Street one of the oldest parts of the area. In reply to the likely boundary of Kingfield & Old Woking, I believe one enters Old Woking as you leave Kingfield Road coming up from Woking Park area opposite Woking Football Club's Kingfield Stadium. The waterway is known as the Hoe Stream that joins the River Wey. This is also apparent in the Park area where Claremont Road leads onto Kingfield Road. Hope that is helpful to you. Although I have been driven that way more recently I really enjoyed that. Brought back a lot of memories. As it happens, my eventual wife was a Woking lady but from Board School Road just off of Chertsey Road, close to the Canal area.
Really pretty. Can you please send us some rain!

Very nice. Good weather for a walk.
Very pretty!
The police are useless and put people off going to the town no shoppers =a corrupt police force
Interesting to see what Walton on Thames looks like. It doesn’t look as affluent as I imagined it to be, considering the likes of Eamonn Holmes & Ruth live in a 5 million pound property nearby. Just goes to show! TFS
As someone who worked there, the pillars are not security. They're lights!
The tall ones? Cool. Thanks.

I lived in Carshalton for 55 years til I moved away 18 years ago. I loved the town and my local pub was The Greyhound which you pass opposite the ponds. Thanks for the memories.
Stunning.
Excited! Have a dress & hat to wear for the occasion watching it via the laptop here.
Just picked two horses. City of Troy & Dancing Gemini.
The Sainsbury's supermarket on the left at 7.00 is on the site of what was, between 1960 and 1973, the Museum of British Transport. It was notable for being fronted by a 30-foot high elevated statue of Stephenson's Rocket. When Sainsbury's acquired the site, the whole frontage of the store they built, instead of being a window or wall was a massive TV screen (actually several linked screens forming one image) running advertisements for their products on a loop. I daresay it seemed a genius idea at the time but it proved a serious distraction for passing motorists and malfunctioned so frequently that Sainsbury's eventually gave in and installed a conventional albeit sloping glass front.
That's amazing! It seems that Sainsbury's have a really good archive department so I've found a load of photos here: www.sainsburyarchive.org.uk/catalogue/search/search/ewao-everywhere:video-wall?date_from=1974&date_to=2013 I wonder if they'll let me use them in a video? Thanks for the info 👍
Nice suicide lane outro. I see summer coming soon, very nice.

Thank you for sharing this. We did the tour on the last day - 16 May 2024. My wife is Sian Healey, the artist behind dog number 8 - Guide Dog Adventures. It's based on her own guide dog Uri. Hope you enjoyed the trail as much as we did.
That's amazing. Yes, it was lovely and our nephews really enjoyed it.
Very enjoyable and for a terrific cause. Liked seeing some of the working dogs and then folks out & about dog walking with their own pooches.
The mind boggles what my dogs would do if I had some of the sculptures in the garden?
Interesting all the sculptures are of Labradors.
When the dogs started barking, they set mine off!
Wet dog smell 🤣😂
Which one would you associate that to or would that be all of them? 🤣
@@SimonPain well if it rains, all!
When I went last time through the Tooting markets (1962) there were good spaces or walkways! Now it seems like all the stall owners want to 'push out' and make restricted walkways? I hope they don't have any fires in that market! Very bad now!
I lived in this area opposite Morden Park in the early 60's. Looks like the Express Dairy has been replaced by the big Mosque?
