Brathay Trust is a charity with the mission to improve the life chances of children and young people. We do this by inspiring them to engage positively in their communities.
We recognise that children and young people face many challenges in their day to day lives. We work with some of the most vulnerable and 'hard-to-reach', helping them to develop the confidence, motivation and skills that they need to unlock their potential and make positive changes in their lives.

I was there in 1967 for one month Outward bound residential I still have the magazine. It was great to watch the film and I recognize it all and also remember the dinner gong at the front door wonder if you still have it. Thanks for putting the video on youtube. Paul Woodier now aged 71.
Hi Paul - lovely to hear from you! Sadly, the dinner gong isn't around any more, but I'm sure you'd still recognise Brathay Hall - it really hasn't changed much in the last 50+ years! If you're ever in the area, let us know and come and take a look.

Joined Brathay Hall in August 1955, worked for Marconi in Gateshead, was in Ambleside House. Was 17 at the time, was lifeguard for the morning swim. Outstanding time was spending the night on Scarfell Pike. Could see the Isle of Man. Rained all night next day descended down Rossett Gill, one of the lads broke his ankle, we had to carry him until bus arrived. 3 day trip, climbed Helvelyn, first night Thirlmere, next day climbed High Raise very boggy and flat could see down to Borrowdale. Next day walked back to Brathay Hall via the Langdales. First back to win. Going to Brathday helped me lots as I mixed with older lads from all over the country.
