You earned the most points, it’s not liga Mx or premier league where you play every team in the league and some teams have harder schedules than others and one conference can be harder than the other. So forget the whole supporters shield is a championship or better. False. Could the playoffs be shorter yes but they won’t change as long as Messi plays in the MLS because his salary comes from Apple TV. I think this is an interesting discourse to have. You made a great point about Premiere as one of my gripes with the League is the almost constant predictability of who the top club will end up being. I think regardless of the playoff format, it will be something catered towards the American audience as it is an American league. Our unique playoff system is almost part of our cultural sporting identity so much so that I think if MLS switched to a conference winner vs. conference winner only format it won't see any growth. One has to consider the foothold the sport has in the U.S. at the moment- Soccer isn't massive here, but it is growing at a decent rate. I think if you switch the playoff format to match the rest of the world at this time that growth will be stunted. It won't capture American interests. If the League gets big enough I am all for relegation/promotion. I think that would provide the bottom rung of clubs' suspense and motivation to continue to play their hardest. The playoff system currently gives fans a glimmer of hope and opportunity even if they did not place first.

The league completely reoriented the rules to get Messi and friends in the league -MLS has a history of changing the rules to accommodate certain teams and players for growing interest in the league domestically and abroad... ATL United with a roster with wages for all players combined that is lower than a single player on Miami is the fairest result possible. It's diabolically beautiful. Playoffs in US a common in every pro league -the reason is it keeps all teams and fans with hope throughout the season that they can make a run and creates intense high stake series of games at the end, whereas with relegation system in Europe you get interest in the bottom half in trying to stay up in the league -so essentially the MLS playoff system is another way to do what relegation does for fans -gives them a goal even if they are in the bottom and moves the high stakes games into the last half of the regular season but with with ascending series of matches with increasing difficulty necessarily. I think most everyone in the US aside from MLS team owners would prefer a promotion/relegation system -but the team owners are billionaires and corporate conglomerates who will prevent that, as it is not in their best interests to allow the possibility that their product with get demoted from the league that they paid so much to be a part of. ATLs defeat of Miami was beautiful -it was a true underdog story -I drink up the tears with pleasure for all those now questioning the playoffs after their Barcelona darlings didn't get the intended result. -Where were all these videos last year or in years before?

As an Atlanta United Supporter, I agree that the Current Playoff Format is terrible. Jordi Alba's playoff Proposal will not work here since American Sports loves Playoffs. Since Atlanta came on the Scene, I've seen the Playoffs change four times. Now under the current format, Inter Miami gets two Home Games. Miami just didn't finish the Job against Atlanta
