Repairing screen flop on the GPD MicroPC, tightening the lower hinge screws
A really really annoying problem with some units is the hinge mounting screws will loosen and the hinge will start flopping.
First off if your hinge flops check the screws in the top portion first underneath the LCD, if you have this issue and are fortunate it'll be the top hinge section which is a breeze to access.

This video is meant to walk you through the steps it takes to get to the internal hinge screws which requires removing the motherboard to get to.
It is not terribly hard to get to if you have any knowledge of electronics but you may or may not run into a issue removing the battery depending on how strong your adhesive is.

Runs fairly well and the controller has no lag so controls are tight but the small screen can make it hard to keep track of everything going on when the screen is full of bullets. Was fun for burning some time while on my commute though.

The biggest drawback of the X18 is the screen refresh and that has now been fixed via a over the air update. There are still some software fixes to be done like the D-pad issues and errant button combos but the manufacturer is aware of them and says they are working on it. Despite the X18's current software related flaws the internals itself are pretty nice. It wouldn't be that hard to take apart if it weren't for the shoulder button ribbon cables which are very fragile and will tear like the XD and those two case posts that complicate removal of the motherboard. As if the joystick deadzones and 51hz screen refresh weren't bad enough the controller is completely broken and utterly useless for any game that requires button mashing. Powkiddy does not respond to emails so I will continue to do these videos pointing out flaws until they notice and fix these issues. It has potential but as it stands is completely broken.

With the Intel HD 615 having 24 Execution units and a 850MHZ compared to 12 EU and a 700MHZ GPU clock in the UHD 600 the results ...... won't surprise you. It may perform better than expected compared to the Atom Z8750 but the N4100 is no 7Y30.

My general thoughts and impressions on the MicroPC after owning one for a month now. Overall it's a fantastic general purpose UMPC for a great price but it is not without some flaws.

I just got the newer GPD Micro with 8GB and 256GB and the upgraded CPU. It was still smaller than it looked in all the videos I've seen.

I've just been having this issue with mine this week. I'm fucking pissed. Mine didn't even come with a charger, I had to figure out and buy one. I'm on my 3rd fucking cable. I doubt this will get a response, but I've read the plastic on the back of the display chassis has a chance to snap from alot of use. I notice there's a tensioner screw on the hinge itself where a spring is being pressed to create friction. I was trying to find ways to loosen mine to reduce friction on the hinge overall to reduce the chance of breakage. What way would you say to tackle this? I don't have any tiny pliers to twist with...

I just played mine for the first time, it is NOT "really loud". It's barely at acceptable level for me. I wonder if they downgraded the speaker for the SSD version or if mine is faulty. Anyway will contact the company about it.
Just ordered one of these. I expect to use it for years and the battery will need replacing at some point. Thanks for showing the insides of the computer. Maybe modify it to run off external battery pack. My old ASUS eee can't run Windows 10 but it worked well for a lot of years.

EEEHHHHH. Mine has a battery thats started to puff up. Has anyone had any luck getting this particular battery? I guess they've changed a lot through the revisions of the different GPD devices. Ironically, the biggest tell is that it puffed up enough to cause the speaker contacts not to touch.
