    As a huge razorback fan, I will say although I loved Tramon Mark, he was NOT the defense specialist people say he is. His offense is a black hole: once mark has the ball, it will not be passed he will look to score no matter the shot selection good or bad. And his defense was shockingly bad. I don't know if he was just over the season or if he was lazy bc his defense was as bad as anyone else on the team. Hes a good 3 pointer but I think Muss wouldn't let him shoot 3's bc he passed up the 3 shot so much. I'm excited to see what he does this year though

    • @hoopssouthbound

      Lot to pack there, and Maddy and David are also Razorbacks fans. There's a lot of thoughts on Mark's game last year. But after further watching and breaking down what was happening, Mark was by far the best player. Out of Arkansas's players who saw significant minutes, Mark posted the best BPR, the best OBPR, and the second best DBPR and defensive rating. He also led in steals per game and steal % for players who played consistent minutes. Mark's defense got put on blast last year. But really he was the best defender on an awful defense. A really bad team defense, 133rd in the country. Do agree that Mark was a blackhole with the ball at times. That's what David was saying was frustrating in settling for a midrange shot. He'd take it early in the clock and often wouldn't look for another option. Edit: If this is coming off kind of jerk or adversarial, it’s not intended that way. I try to open more dialogue and discussion with counter or expanding.

      I agree about TMarks defense. I wondered if it had to do with Muss’ style of defense and it seemed that he wanted people to defend in a different way (to the side driving them a certain way) but I thought he’d be the defensive stopper and he just wasn’t. He would let people drive right by him. I’m interested to see him this year.

      @@Tjmelt yes!! I got so frustrated bc it was like he didn't even try sometimes, people would go by him over and over and he would throw an arm out but not move his feet. I think ur right, it probably had to do with Muss's style of defense bc he was a lot better on Houston's team

    I think Bama has the best 1-15 in the country. Yes, better than KU too. However I don't think it guarantees much as the SEC has teams like Arkansas and Kentucky who could be extremely good and then also Auburn and Tennessee who have given the Tide trouble. The league is loaded. I'm taking Alabama to win the conference but it's far from a done deal in my mind. The defensive concerns are fair but we'd be remiss to ignore that in '20 and '22 UA had a top 3 defense. Oats definitely coaches the D hard and has gotten the results. I'm a believer in their ability to get back in the top 10 on that end.

    • @hoopssouthbound
      @hoopssouthbound 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Alabama is a very good basketball team and certainly feel like the team to win it. Agreed nothing is a done deal. I agree that there's not a concern that Oats is unable to coach defense, because he has. I would say those years where Oats had good defenses, also saw different (bigger change) rosters where as this roster has more continuity from season to season. Additionally, some of the transfers in the backcourt like Youngblood and HM out of Pepperdine bring in DBPR's that were worse than Alabama's team average DBPR last season. So there weren't a lot of quality defenders brought in. So the defense will hinge on how much improvement on defense you can get this offseason and through the course of the year.

    I’m a huge Otega fan but his 3 point percentage is deceiving, he shot like 26 percent the last 17 games, but he can drive the ball really well and shoot the 3 well just spotting up shooting is better for him

    • @hoopssouthbound
      @hoopssouthbound 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Still the numbers are favorable from 3pt range overall for the team and that's broader picture we're hitting. 36% from 3 is considered the magic number as a collective. If Oweh's numbers are closer to Butler's Kentucky's three point shooting shouldn't take a giant hit. The transfers as a whole shot over 41% last season. In the clip we took the white board segment out of, we even said we don't anticipate them shooting 41% but the numbers are strong enough where theoretically Kentucky should be anywhere between 1.1-1.25 PPS. That's an offense producing 74.8 to 85 points a night if they play at the pace BYU played last season.

    • @johnnystivers6788

      @@hoopssouthbound yeah no question I like the video I just didn’t want everyone to think he’s a knockdown shooter when I’m not sure he is, him and Butler both shoot like 43 percent from 3 when spotting up I think that’s the bigger number because in this system that’s what they should both be doing catch and shoot or catch and drive to the basket, Jaxson Kerr travis and Koby are probably the only guys I want to take step backs or off the dribble shooting, I understand what your saying. I like the video it’s just weird how Otega started the season like 18-30 from 3 then ended 9-33. I get the point though keep doing your videos I enjoyed watching

Rioux, whom you put in the depth chart, is a walk on with a limited skill set and poor conditioning. Handlogten is likely out for the year, recovering from a fractured leg.

    as someone born in the 90's, UConn always felt like a blue blood to me growing up with Jim Calhoun. They were constantly loaded with legendary players and were always deep in the tournament. And they played in the Big East. They felt like northeastern Duke. I think their brand took a huge hit playing in the AAC for a decade, so that hurt them, but establishing themselves again in the Big East, I think the brand is all the way back. Just in my lifetime, they've won 6 natties, 7 final fours, 11 elite eights, had 37 guys drafted, and 17 lottery picks. that's crazy.

    The SEC is gonna be sooo strong this season it might cannibalize itself. Alabama, Texas, Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas a&m are all going to be really good. And thats NTM other teams i think are also going to be better than they normally are in Missouri, Ole miss, Georgia and South Carolina, maybe even LSU. I truly believe the SEC not only will be the best conference in the country, but by a large margin this season. The SEC through my Lifetime has never been bad, but usually Just 2-4 really good teams with Kentucky usually dominating the conference, but an occasional pop up with Florida, and maybe Tennessee, LSU and Auburn. But nowadays the league is legitimately a gauntlet.

    Good effort here. 👏 Suggestions: Fix the young lady’s camera pan; she’s too low and off-center in view. Also, she’s too washed out as if the brightness or lighting is too high. You two should have a more conversation-oriented presentation and bounce off of one another’s statements. You’re going too long as if you should have separate videos. Remove the guy’s background screen saver or slow it down. It’s distracting. Make the vids shorter. Aim for not exceeding 1 hour.

    Ur worried about Ky's defense because of Pope's team at BYU last year even though he has a completely new roster & a lot more talent? Makes perfect sense lol. Lamont Butler was the mountain west defensive player of the year & is maybe the best defensive guard in the country. Amari Williams was the defensive player of the year in his conference 3 years in a row & one of the best defensive bigs in the country. Otega Oweh is a tremendous defensive player out of Oklahoma. Brandon Garrison is a defensive minded player from Oklahoma St. Jaxson Robinson is a solid defensive player. Andrew Carr from Wake Forest averaged 1.5 blocks per game & is a solid defender at the 4. Why do I feel like these 2 people aren't aware of any of that? Lol

    Why do Arkansas fans think that Calipari will be any different than he was the last 5 years at UK? He ran the UK program like a NBA training camp and stated, himself, that he could care less about the SEC tournament. It was obvious he didn’t care about the NCAA tournament, He excused himself by saying he was focused only on player development. What happened to hanging banners? If you look at UK the last few years, you know that talent doesn’t not always equal championships. Arkansas doesn’t get that?

    • @hoopssouthbound
      @hoopssouthbound 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Partly because even in those five years, the only place he actually didn’t do well was the tournament.Muss also ran Arkansas like an NBA training program. He just had more success recently in March. Additionally, Cal said his goal at Arkansas was to hang banners in his opening press conference.

    • @rosemarypeavler
      @rosemarypeavler 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, Cal is a good salesman and marketer. Of course, he always said the same at UK - until he left. When he was in the process of leaving, he told UK fans his real goal - player development for the NBA. Actions speak louder than words and his actions certainly backed that up. Since he has been the Arkansas coach, he has made a number of comments. One of them was that he couldn’t imagine himself changing his philosophy at this point - recruiting freshmen and player development. As an afterthought, he briefly mentioned hanging banners. Cal was great the first 10 or 11 years he was at UK, especially with recruiting. There are other better X and O coaches. Of course, going to Arkansas, he had learned what the fans at UK wanted - hanging banners - and I’m sure he knows Arkansas fans do too. Good luck with that!
