The young owls are certainly growing quickly. Both parents are bringing food to the nest and Mama Hoo is spending less time with them. The weather has been cooler than usual for this time of year but does not seem to have affected their progress. A few days ago, these two owlets were banded by a group of dedicated volunteers.

Papa Hoo starts stockpiling food in the nest a couple days before the first one hatches. Mama Hoo gets a bit antsy and finally the first egg hatches. Papa Hoo continues to bring her food and currently has 14 stockpiled in the back of the nest. The second egg hatches. All is well in Hooville.

We are proud to announce that Mama Hoo has laid an egg in the barrel! There has been a lot of action this week watching 3 owls. Mama Hoo, Papa Hoo and introducing Camilla. All three have been in the quonset at the same time. Finally, last night, Mama Hoo claimed the barrel and hopefully succeeds again this season.

A lot happened this week! First, the owlets were banded, fitted with bracelets engraved with a number. That way they can be tracked if their bands are read. And the next day, they began to fly!
