Kurt’s only real business efforts he got serious for were the suits fucking with his sound. That was all he had, good for him. I always assumed this was why but nice to hear it confirmed. Good 👍 interview
In 1991, as Pixies were recording Trompe le Monde, Albini told the fan magazine Forced Exposure that Surfer Rosa was "a patchwork pinch loaf from a band who at their top dollar best are blandly entertaining college rock", and said of the band: "Their willingness to be 'guided' by their manager, their record company and their producers is unparalleled. Never have I seen four cows more anxious to be led around by their nose rings."
RIP Steve
"He had a way with words that made you imagine that the words meant more than they actually did" on the money.
I love Molina
But he doesn't say why he hates pro wrestling. And he just kind of starts a story and the video ends before he finishes it....
Hell yes made me love him more
I like Steve’s pug!
Molina breaks my heart.
Steve put the Pixies small Peavey Bandit amo in the bathroom for Surfer Rosa 🤘😬🤘
I met Jason at a daytrotter session immediately prior to a Trashcan Sinatras session. We had a beer and talked Neko Case because he kept a laminated photo of her in his wallet (and I love her too) asking if we could "make him sound like that". I loved that! I had no idea he was who he was until after seeing the TS set and I'll never forget that day, true magic. <3 RIP LEGENDS!
When the ghost of Steve Albini inevitably haunts me and we become best friends, I will turn him into a wrestling fan.
I wonder if steve learned the trick to being a pretentious assclown from bob too
meh
@@ZOOTSUITBEATNICK1 you’re so brave
the label hated it, and yet it was their best record. that tells you a lot about major labels.
What’s happened to Steve’s cat
Now we miss them both
Just relistened to this after Steve died... I would say the bass would be my only thing I would have changed... the drums, vocals, and guitars sound amazing... the bass is just a cloudy woof in the background... id imagine intentional, but distracting at times.
RIP master. Love your MONO t shirt.
I hope both of them are making music up in heaven!!!
Love the pfp, such an amazing album
@@zarieluwu128 you to!!!!
@zarieluwu128 Love the pfp, such an amazing album
The dog in the photo is sad that Steve is no longer here with us.. I am also sad..
Surfer Rosa is the best album he worked on. In Utero is grossly overrated and if not for his PRODUCTION, it would be nothing more than a footnote as Nirvana's final album.
I agree wholeheartedly. I always feel people trying to be high brow hipster doofuses when saying it’s better than Nevermind.
When In Utero came out it wasn't for me, fast forward 30 years and a mate gave me Steve Albini's mix and then I got it. Songs are unbelievable 🫠
in a world of comments, here is another one 🤡
I’d have to say Rid of Me with PJ Harvey best captures his “sound” but both are fantastic
rip brother
The Fucking Best. Rest well Steve.
jason was a poet in every sense
I immediately was reminded of this video when I heard the news. Steve Albini was and is a legend. It's a shame that people only define him by his history as a bit of a provocateur because he was always incredibly thoughtful and took his work super seriously. RIP
Hits different now man. rip legends
FUCK
Big Black was the sound track of my 80s. rest in peace Steve.
RIP Steve and RIP Jason.
both are gone, about to cry man
Mic choice is not trivial, Steve.
lol who the f are you?
Care to line up your work next to his?
I cant wait to see what his opinion of Peter Sotos is
Crain.
didn't know Steve had his hands on this album!
Is he autistic? I think he is.
Anyone who has kids who might be listening to this... Play if for your them so they can hear what self doubt and insecurity sounds like.
It's not about that at all. It's about learning from your mistakes and being brave to accept, learn, move on and be better from the experience. There's nothing insecure about Albini. He was brave as fuck.
I think he is an asshole, because The Pixies were greater than Nirvana and this guy didnt notest how genius they were. You can tell Bowie about it. The most influent band of alternative rock from USA
I like some of his stuff now but when I first heard him I'd already got I to his contemporaries - Oldham, callahan, berman and just found him a bit of an also ran hearing him. Just thought he was will oldham wth no outside ideas and not as identifiable. Over time I've warmed to his stuff although I do still think alot of it seems to be made to be part of the scene rather than coming from a truly unique, one off place. He seems like he was a big palace fan and wanted to be like that, very referential of a loose group of artists. Ghost tropic is the one for me, he sounds like he's playing in the dark in the jungle.
"Like some of his stuff now" as you group him in with comparative duds who aren't even in the same dimension as him🙄
I like the song Farewell Transmission and frankly thought everything else was sad bastard bullshit for whiny dipshits.
@@tct84they’re in the same dimension… this guy just has a really stupid and convoluted point to make, and no one in real life could possibly care, so let him spew it on youtube.

....It broke what wasn't broken already.....
Godspeed to the spirit of the homie Jason Molina!!
Damn record industry sneaks in when you're half seized over and cuts the money right out of your jeans pocket.
Yes. A foolish consistency, is the hobgoblin of little minds.
I like aspects of steve's recording and mixing but I don't like how he does vocals in some cases. Adam Kasper seems to be a good blend of Steve and butch
I like pugs
Albini is still notorious for obnoxious shit he said in the 80s and I personally did not like the stuff he said about Courtney Love in azerrad's book. But I saw him speak some years back and he was questioned about his past remarks and he was flat out. (no quotes) 'I was young and stupid and very ego-driven I thought it was time to let the whole world have it.' Then when he was asked more deep about that shit he said he made a statement about PC that is very important to not forget!! "Some people may call it political correctness, but I think: is anything wrong with being nice? Why would you want to hurt anyone?' I actually have a recording of the interview in question. I instantly liked him personally. Not only did IT show his growth. But HE showed responsible concern, not by restoring, but contributing. I just loved that. ( I only went there to ask him questions about his gear).
i wonder how much Steve charges to record bands now days
From $900 per day. Pretty cheap. It's on his recording studio's website.
The underlying assumption is that producers don't add value to record is blatantly false. Surfer Rosa being indeed a great illustration they do. This change in mood is more something Steve may want to discuss with his therapist than fixing an actual issue there.
