A Day on the Union Pacific in Cheyenne, Wyoming
I spent the day in Cheyenne, Wyoming on the Union Pacific. It had been a few years since I was there last. Some new buildings have been built near the old depot, some buildings are no longer there. The Union Depot are is a good place to be for UP rail action. There is a great resturant actually inside the depot called the Shadow Pub & Grill. Their food is great! One can also check out the Union Pacific Museum inside the west end of the depot. It even has a newly built viewing room where one can check the action on the treacks.
A truely fan and satisfying day was had! Enjoy the video!

BNSF Mason Street, Ft. Collins, Colorado
มุมมอง 10K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This video was shot in Fort Collins, Colorado on a beautiful and sunny Saturday along Mason Street near the intersection of Maple Street. This is my first visit to this location since the entire stretch was rebuilt and they did a really nice job with the project. Trains and cars are now safely seperated. Cars and bicyclist have to cross at regular grade crossing rather than anywhere they wanted...
BNSF Stack Train Meets the Local
มุมมอง 22010 ปีที่แล้ว
A northbound BNSF stack train meets the BNSF Local train at Highland, Colorado. The Local has just pulled off onto the siding and stopped. The stack train snuck up on me from the south giving me no time to setup a tripod! Note: The engineer did blow the horn the required number of times for the grade crossing. The camera operator was a bit startled by the first horn blast. It was not pretty. I ...

Saturday Afternoon Train Chase - Part 2
มุมมอง 21110 ปีที่แล้ว
On a beautiful afternoon in January, I waited about two hours and final got a shot of this train at Highland, Colorado. Part 1 It was about 3:00PM and the sun starting to get low in the western sky. I was waiting on the east side of the track so, I wasn't sure how good the lighting was going to be with the sun so low. I shot the train anyway and it turned pretty good after all/ Part 2 The chase...

I love the curbing, as it really makes Mason street far safer, and it is now kinda fun to drive right next to the train when it is going through. Not like before, that was a bit much.

I have always LOVED Cheyenne, YES, mainly for the TRAINS!!! Years ago as a youngster the family (Live in Colorado) would 2-4 times a year spend Friday-Sunday chasing trains between Cheyenne and Laramie. We would stay at the Old Hitching Post Inn (Way before it went down hill) my Dad always making sure to book a room on a upper floor on the side where the tracks are. In later years we would eat at the Dennys going out of town on Lincoln towards Laramie (Not sure if it's still there...) always asking the waitress for a booth on the side where the tracks are. Very cool for a young guy!! Trains and cute waitresses!!! BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!! Miss those times.... I no longer drive. I did make it up to Cheyenne last year. First time in maybe a decade.... Saw the HOn3 layout now on display there. I have equal love for both the UP and the old D&RGW.

I like what they did with the traffic signals. They used to flash during train preemption, leading drivers to think they can ignore the rr xing signals, but now everyone gets red until the front of the train clears the intersection, then traffic running alongside the train gets green until the train is gone.

+JMAN123436 That's what I noticed too. I haven't been to downtown Fort Collins since they completely renovated Mason Street so this is the first I've seen of it. The trains also go much faster than they did before. I think they were restricted to 10mph, now it appears they can go around 25-30 or so. At least these improvements eliminate, or at least cut way down on, idiots who try to step, ride, or drive in front of the trains!

Thanks Walter, I need to start using my tripod. I have another video I'm trying to post by the weekend. Usually catching a train along the BNSF Front Range Sub here means long hours waiting. The trains don't run on much of a set schedule. So I have plenty of time to setup and use the tripod. I waited 2 or 3 hours waiting for a train on Saturday. I taped it at one location and then chased up the line so I could get on the west side of the tracks because it was after 4:00PM and the sun was getting too low to get a good shot from the east side of the tracks. Sometimes, railfanning can be fun and a challenge at times.

Gary Zimmerman I know it can be frustrating, I always try to get the best light when I have the time, but some times you just do the best you can LOL
