Ok my game theory is that the guessing colors thing was real, and then she levelled up to faking moving stuff with her husband. It's possible she had some kind of neural damage or PTSD that caused some of the negative symptoms she experienced, maybe that was a fib too. But Then the KGB and important scientists got involved and it became a "boy who cried wolf" scenario where she felt pressure to commit to the bit. Maybe the government was pressuring her bc they wanted to have a psychic, or maybe she didn't want to be sent to the Gulag for lying and wasting their time. Russia in the 60s was a scary place, and the government could make you disappear on a whim. Maybe she genuinely believed she had some kind of ability, there could have been a lot of confirmation bias involved, many scientists have seen what they wanted to see in experiments, theyre not infallible beings, and as you mentioned there were also political motivations. maybe she just got in too deep, and the stress of the lie and trying to perform tricks over time wore her down.
