CELEBRATION OF A LIFE WELL-LIVED || JONATHAN KIPYEGON LABOSO
EULOGY
Today we are honoring, celebrating, and remembering the life
of Retired Air force Warrant Officer II, Jonathan Kipyegon
Laboso. He was a cherished soul who served this world with his
presence from 1962 until now. He was born in Togomin village,
Chebilat Location, Sotik Sub-county, Bomet County to the late
Kimolel Arap Kosgei and the late Tapnyobii Chebor. He was a
devoted husband to madam Florence Laboso, and a son in law
to Joseph Kosgei, Rebecca & Sarah Kosgei As a brother , he
shared bonds of love and support with the late Recho Koech, the
late Raeli Ngeno, the late Grace Soo, Rusi Cheluget, Samwel
Laboso, the late Esther Koskei and Sally Chemenei. He was
brother in law to Nancy, Emily, Dora, late Betty, Patrick,
Dennis, Shadrack, Philemon , Raymond & Racho Raboso.
EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT AND WORK HISTORY
His education journey began at Togomin Primary School, then
Koelel High School in Gilgil In the year 1984, after rigorous
selection at Kericho Green Stadium, he was lucky to be among
the few selected to join Kenya Armed Forces (Kenya Airforce).
He rose to the rank of Warrant Officer 2 before retiring after
nearly 37 years of distinguished service.
Aside from his military service Mr. Laboso was an active and
dedicated farmer. His love for, and commitment to agriculture
was evident in his homestead where he established a thriving
dairy cow operation, and a successful tea garden.
around him remain a testimony to his remarkable life.
He played an integral role in local projects and initiatives, and
most notably he provided support to individual members of the
village and beyond. As best summarized by one of the visitors,
"Laboso loved everyone with all his heart. He was never biased.
He was always ready to give his support whenever he was
called upon. Alitoa pesa zake, gari lake, time yake, maziwa
yake, tractor zake kubeba maji, etc. He never complained or
questioned why we all went to him for help."
Over the years , Abule Laboso played a significant
role in the lives of his nephews and nieces. He
knew each one individually. He was present during
school visiting and prayer days, initiation
ceremonies, weddings, and other celebrations. He
was also present and showed support during life
troubles.
RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND
A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of
Repentance and Holiness Ministry, Togomin. He
donated the land which the church sits currently.
His religious commitment guided him and
provided strength throughout his life.
HEALTH HISTORY
Until July, 2024, the late Jonathan enjoyed good
health and high spirits going about his day to day
activities. However, he was diagnosed after
visiting Tenwek Mission Hospital with
Hypertension and Arthritis. In the second week,
after developing mild paralysis on the left side of
his body he was taken to Kericho District Hospital
where a CT scan was performed and was further
referred to see a neurosurgeon at Top Hill Eldoret.
On the third week of July, he was taken to Top Hill
Hospital where MRI was done and a second one
also done, it was established that he had a bleed in
the brain and he was given medication to clear it
and told to come back again after a month. He went
back to the doctor and it was established that the
bleed was cleared and was given a go ahead to start
physiotherapy. He continued with physiotherapy
where he attended Kapkatet Hospital. On the
morning of 1st September, 2024, he developed
dizziness and was rushed to Litein Mission
Hospital where after stabilisation he was referred
to Tophill Hospital, Eldoret. He sadly passed on
enroute.
As we reflect on his life, we remember a man of
profound kindness, unwavering faith and strong
leadership. Though his health challenges were
sudden and severe, his spirit and impact he had on
those “around him remains a testmony to his
remarkable life”
