*** Tube Rolling & Op Amp Considerations:
So far my favorite tubes for this unit are Raytheon 5654 tubes or GE Five Star 5654 tubes. I have tried RCA Black Plate 5654 tubes, Green Label Sylvania 5654, Green Label GE 5654 (these are the ones that are readily available on Amazon), Silver GE 5654, & Green Label Sylvania 6186 tubes in addition- listed in my order of preference. I really don't recommend the Silver GE5654 or Green Label Sylvania 6186 tubes, although the others had their merits, depending upon set up. For example, the Green Label GE 5654 tubes are a bit nimbler and smoother, but not too heavy handed; more of a feathery smooth. The stock 6186 tubes are worse than the others, but better than the bottom two listed I don't recommend.
Sparkos SS3602 Op Amps are a minor, but definite upgrade over the stock Op Amps and result in a more neutral, even, and HiFi presentation overall. You will need a riser for the back Op Amp Slot, and it barely fits. There will not be a lot of room in the chassis for Op Amps that are much bigger than the Sparkos. Hope that helps!

      It's not very good without sparkos. Better with them for sure. Idk if pointing this out makes me a salesman. If you think so, I think you're listening to the wrong people and focusing on things that won't help you get good sound. Best of luck to you still, and thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@intoitreviews at lot of peaple are enjoying ZA3 as is. Ss3602 is expensive than the amp itself, doesn't make sense. Why not buy a better amp with the total amount of ZA3 + ss3602.

    • @intoitreviews
      @intoitreviews 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @fredreadrick people that enjoy the za3 as is likely don't understand they can do better. Perhaps watch my full za3 video as well, I mention some other amps to consider there. Considering them vs za3 with sparkos could be an option, although I'd ultimately recommend v3 mono blocks with burson vivid op amps in most cases if you're going to spend big money. Sparkos are actually an economical option for many people on a budget considering that. Also maybe some people have bought the za3, and are probably disappointed. Op amp upgrades can be helpful fore them to consider for sure. Unlike other channels, this channel only has the agenda of telling people the truth about sound outcomes.

    Are you going to review the Skunkie mods carried out to one of your 301’s? My guess is many people would be interested.

    • @intoitreviews
      @intoitreviews 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah I will. I owe a number of videos to companies first though, so those are the priority, but I will work it in as soon as possible. To be honest, some of the mods resulted in positive benefit, but Skunkie did not really involve me as much in the process as I would have liked to have been, and was not very cooperative. As a result, the end product kind of suffered in some key areas in my opinion, and I'm not sure I can recommend the mods overall, even if there were some positives here or there. I will touch on this in the video when I can. Make sure you're subscribed with notifications turned on to get alerted, or join my discord if you want to talk before.

    Im assuming the volare is more "technical" and "detailed" since its 200 dollars more expensive, but how big is the gap in terms of those 2 is the volare vs the sogno?

    • @intoitreviews
      @intoitreviews 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not really, no. The volare has a bit more of a nuanced presentation and an EST sound, but the sogno actually displays details a bit better imho, at least below the air region. Both are limited in air, but the sogno is even more so. These two IEMs sound more similar than they do different. The sogno is a bit more engaging and the volare a bit more laid back. I find the price gap isn't necessarily worth the upgrade (unless you hate the more energetic sound), but the volare cable is notably better. Give the review another watch, I talk a lot about these things in detail in the review. Also thanks for subscribing! Very helpful to the channel!

I just provide a more accurate accessment of these things than some of these other channels are capable of. But hey, if you want to put your faith in someone that will misguide you, there's nothing I can do about that. I can only produce a video that actually tells the truth, and doesn't have an alternate agenda, and hope that people use better judgement on their own. That's what this channel is about. They are not as bad as you might think, they are not planars, it's a flat driver but not planar magnetic as we usually understand the term, but they do need burn in, or they sound veiled, all kinera sets seem to be like that. Celest is the line, it's their middle range, I think you will find it is called the Gumiho, and most people don't like it very much. I have Celest Wyvern Abyss, it's fabulous.

    I have a very specific question. I'm using ZA3 as a stereo amp with XLR inputs and subwoofer. I am changing now the default left and right channel op-amps with muses02. 1. Is there a benefit from changing the XLR input op-amp? Why is it only 1 if there are 2 channels (L&R)? 2. If I am to change the op-amp of XLR inputs can I use a different one from the one used for stereo outputs. Let's say I updated the main op-amps with Muses02, can I use 1 OracleII for the XLR inputs? 3. Let's say I have already replaced the default L&R output op-amps with Muses02 and the XLR inputs with 1X OracleII. Now I'd like to update the subwoofer out (I have connected a subwoofer) - there are 2 of them - can I replace them with the ZA3 default ones that used to be mounted on the stereo outputs (ones that have been replaced with the Muses)? I assume that the cheapest default op-amps were used for the subwoofer out so this should be an upgrade... or? Thanks for your work! Regards!

    • @intoitreviews
      @intoitreviews หลายเดือนก่อน

      1) yes, 2) yes, 3) it uses the same stock op amps for all 5 chips, so you would need to change from these to upgrade the subwoofer section.

      For the cost that's OK, you'll just be missing out on performance. If cost weren't an issue something like a sprout 100 for stereo is much better in most set ups. Costs more but much better sounding. You can get a sprout 100 refurbished for 499. Three sparkos and 48v power supply with a Za3 is approaching that and the sprout 100 has other features like a built in phono, dac, stepped volume, etc.... and if one doesn't need the extra power, certainly sounds more hifi than the stereo za3, even if you run the za3 balanced and Sprout100 unbalanced. Best of luck!

    I would rather use bi-amp speakers and use two ZA3 units left in normal mode getting get full use of the amp thus utilizing the full power of the amp. In mono mode you don't use both channel stack together; you just get more power to once channel using the supply brick.

      Interesting idea, although performance generally suffered with more op amps and use of particular parts of the circuit vs not using them at all. I have some other op amps coming in... I may try them with the za3, but so far the top end never extends well enough, no matter what one does. I used for few months the Fosi ZA3 with sparko op amp as mono blocks and lately I switched to the V3 mono block (2x48V power supply) that was a nice upgrade the sound is more spacious and crispier. I definitely enjoyed the ZA3. You give a nice description on how the op amp should be installed for people who wants to experience the upgrade.

      @@intoitreviews I currently have two ZA3s run as mono with RCA imput. I was just watching this video and thinking about ugrading the op amps. This comment is making me wonder if I should hold off, and switch to the V3s for mono application (adding sparkos ops amps later) and use the ZA3s in stereo mode elsewhere in the house. I also have the Geshelli Labs J2S on my list, to get the balenced imput. Would need to add a way to control volume somehow though. Looking foward to that video, as it might answer this question.

    The Q-Lock is awesome, and the cable behavior is very good too. But its sleeve material is conducting too much microphonics that would make Alexander Graham Bell roll in his grave. Especially with non-metal shell and lightweight IEMs. You can mitigate most of the noise by pulling the chin slider way up, at the cost of some comfort. DUNU should've made it without the sleeve.

    • @intoitreviews
      @intoitreviews 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Come to think of it, most of my testing used metal shell IEMs, and I had no noticeable microphonics. I will try some lighter weight plastic shells and get back to you. I do have a SM1 I am testing now. Could be IEM specific?

      @@intoitreviews I guess at that point you're doing nothing but paying a lot of money for the hobby of tinkering and trying things out. If 2xV3 mono plus 6x opamps = 700 moneys, it's comfortably within "ridiculous, just for fun" territory. You know very well that kind of money can get you a nice 2x250W hypex amplifier for example. 😂

    • @intoitreviews
      @intoitreviews 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ropeburn6684 yeah I pointed out in my original review that a sprout 100 would best the za3, and that would also be similar money compared to za3 and sparkos. Za3 has more power for those who need it, but sprout 100 performers better in most situations. The v3 monoblocks are better than the za3, and op amp swap out isn't required as much, but they do still benefit. I got a lot of hate for this viewpoint in my first video, so I'm glad to see someone else speaking too this point as well. Thanks for your comment, support, and subscription to the chabbel!

    • @ropeburn6684
      @ropeburn6684 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@intoitreviews Yes indeed, it's just like that. There's nothing inherently wrong with this "opamp rolling" thing that seems to have become rather popular, as long as people are aware it's little more than a fun hobby. The only point where it gets silly is when people claim it "can get you high end performance for low end money" or anything like that, which it simply can't. You're still running the same cheap power amplifiers, which are really good value for the money, but aren't magical. Using (for some people) prohibitively expensive opamps for "fixing an inherent problem" with the amplifier simply means you should've gotten a better amp in the first place. Glad to see you're pointing these things out, so inexperienced people don't get fooled, and don't develop unrealistic expectations about what they'll be getting for their money.

      I'm sure there are some microphonics from it being wrapped in a material. But mine was mostly soft to the touch on the upper portion at least (and somewhat in the bottom portion as well), and I haven't had any noticeable bad microphonics from moving around while out and about. It could be the IEMs that I'm using with it just work better? But for me, this wasn't a standout problem. Which IEMs are you using? I'm reviewing the v3 monoblocks right now. They're way better than the za3. Also reviewing aiyima t1 pro as the preamp. That little system is very affordable together, or there are other basic presmp options like schitt sys or jds labs o switcher. You'll probably want to upgrade the dac at some point, but Scarlet can work for now I suppose. Zen dac, fio k11, or the old d30 are pretty good dac options under $100. "metal than classical guitar" - it's always interesting to me how people make conclusions about genres when it comes to eq response. Arguably the treble is the most important for most metal, hosting the pick attack and sometimes harsh fizz of distortion. Slight variations there can make or break the listening experience. With cheap gear, the "jazz" preset is almost always better for metal than the "metal" setting, which typically just sounds like sticking your thumbs in your ears and adding a hyped peak in the bass region for a kick. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this amp. I think I'll give it a shot based on your assessment. Cheers

    One thing of particular note is that these don't seem to be affected by moisture buildup. On first listen I forgot to check after my usual half-hour interval for metal IEMs, going nearly three hours before finally looking. There was some good droplets built up but the sound detail and bass weren't affected and the mesh appeared to perhaps even be hydrophobic to a degree. I didn't take the time to inspect as I was kind of frantically moving to gently wick it all away hahaha
