It's unique. And like any relationship we need to take time for ourselves to understand what we bring to the relationship and what the other brings to you. Flowing into the workshop is what I like to say. You know I have been mentoring/ teaching for three decades - and - the fear is real. But I am here to tell you- magic happens when you get going losing yourself in a painting. I'm good at facilitating that. Will say not much I can say I am good at- but I love to hold space.

    I call it toddler painting 😂 when I'm painting and i hate it, or its not turning out the way i wanted, i put paint directly onto the canvas and smear it wherever i feel would be fun, and i always end up liking it, it helps release the stress from art block!❤❤ I definitely don't wear gloves tho!! I use dawn, it works pretty good too

    • @laurenmantecon
      @laurenmantecon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is true. Try putting paint on Seran wrap and smooshing the design you made with the paint on surface - then move around and make ghost images and you have a repeat pattern

    What is gesso?

    • @laurenmantecon
      @laurenmantecon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its’s a primer- a binder. Used on wood surfaces and or raw canvas so. Paint will not absorb into surface. Usually when you buy a canvas that you want to paint on that has been stretched over stretcher bars it has been pre gessoed. That is usually an cyclic gesso. Dries fast and hard, usually white in hue. Organic gesso is used with an animal hide. Think canoes back in the day or even guitars now, animal hide is one of the strongest binders we have.

    I started as a well trained impressionist that mostly was only dabbling because my day job was very demanding and providing a good income. After semi retiring, I was dabbling in almost every style. Then upon full retirement and setting up a more legit studio, I became much more interested in abstract oil. Then, not bing satisfied with where is was going, I fell into reading a lot of best seller fiction novels and mostly stopped viewing other artist work online or off line. Around the same time, I stopped listening to any background music while painting. I'm not suggesting to others to not listen to music or view other art works. Just, at some point you may want to have a completely quite environment, including your mind telling you maybe try this or that of what you seen from others. Having the novel's influence unknowingly hidden in the background with all their wonderful lessons of empathy and morality seems to work well for creativity

    • @laurenmantecon
      @laurenmantecon 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes - agreed . I have a yearly container of 10 artists in my dive deep program. I strongly suggest during that time to not get into posting or viewing on social media as work on developing our deeper intuition towards authentic work. Here the time together is best spent with ‘ the best studio practice is with a closed studio door’. I have found the benefits of support are in guiding folks towards originality- u fortunately our world spinning so fast has left many hanging out in superficial realms of making paintings that are good enough formally speaking. It’s nobody’s fault but deep inner listening sometimes needs to be re-learned

    Hi there, I heard you say you use mineral spirits on your painting. Does the mineral spirit dry? I accidentally used gamsol mineral spirit thinking it was varnish. I fricken wasn’t paying attention when I bought it as well as when I applied it. Over confidence set me up. Thank you if you’re able to provide a response.

    • @laurenmantecon
      @laurenmantecon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use as a medium while painting - one part gamsol- one part mineral spirits- one part linseed oil. I would not be alarmed too much if you used mineral spirits . It dries fast. Now if you used by accident a acrylic varnish - oil and plastic do not mix especially when wet. You can paint oil on top of acrylic but not the other way around.

    • @user-cy1nx1ch9t
      @user-cy1nx1ch9t 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok got it! Thank you. Fortunately, I realized that gamsol mineral spirit is such a mild solvent that in a few hours it dried nicely. Exactly like you said! Your video helped me get an understanding of how the mineral spirit can collaborate with the painting and not damage it when used correctly. Thank you so much.
