The Sound of Hiking (Australia) | No talking, No music
A few of the sounds we routinely hear on our hiking trips. I thought it might be nice to capture this in a video for something different. Callum and I were jibber jabbering all day (as always) but these are the moments we are quiet and enjoying the peace around us.
I hope you enjoy

Bath Skyline Walk | England | UK
มุมมอง 1257 หลายเดือนก่อน
To help us combat jet lag Callum and I did the beautiful 10km Bath Skyline Loop trail on our first morning in England. Callum's luggage had been lost by the airline and he only had the clothes on his back and his RM Williams boots on his feet. We enjoyed watching the sun rise over the city and shifting our focus from the events of the previous day. It was the perfect way to start our month long...
West Highland Way, Scotland UK | 2023
มุมมอง 2.4K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
In August 2023 Callum and I travelled to Scotland to visit his family and attend his cousin's wedding. While we were there we took the opportunity to hike the 154km West Highland Way. We had a wonderful week with the usual ups and downs of hiking (both literally and metaphorically). We thoroughly enjoyed the landscape in the misty weather and thoroughly despised the midges. Thanks for watching ...

Things didn't go quite to plan! Molly and Jethro opted out of a weekend of hiking in the wind, rain and cold. Happy trails! xx

Just finished watching all of your great videos. I'm a Queenslander & planning solo in early June 2025.
How exciting!! I wish you a very Buen Camino. Thank you for watching xx
Oh Wow! Kangaroos! I live in Little Rock Arkansas. I'm not even sure we have them at our Zoo! Lol
We forget how lucky we are to have them everywhere! If you ever come to Australia I’m sure you will see them in the wild and the zoos 😀✌️
CONGRATULATIONS! Completely enjoyed watched ALL your journey videos. I walked the Camino Francis in 2013. Now I wish I had walked on to Fisterre as you did. BUEN CAMINO!!
Just one more comment....Great Camera work Claire! Beautiful scenery with amazing colors. And LOVE the family walk-bys with last in line being goofy. 😂

This was fantastic episode my friend! Absolutely brilliant!
Thank you! 😊
love the vid would love to know pack weights, equipment etc as this would help others (like me) who are investigating doing this adventure.
Thank you! I keep meaning to do a gear video, I’ll try and get one out in the next two weeks 😊 Our base weight sits around 4-5kg for me and 6-7kg for Callum. I’ll do a detailed list of our gear soon ✌️
Beautiful video with a great narration. Like, subscribe and greetings from Germany!
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😀

Hi, how did you book your accommodation? I am doing net year, there are some companies in Australia that will do it all for about $6k... for the whole camino plus take yr stuff every day ... thoughts?
Hi, we only booked the first four nights up to Pamplona. We were able to get accommodation across the rest of the Camino easily without booking (except after Sarria where the hoards join the pilgrimage). I would recommend booking the first four nights and the last few from Sarria to Santiago. You can also book just one or two days in advance depending on how you are feeling. I liked the flexibility of being able to stop in whatever town we wanted as we weren’t locked into a booking. There are vast differences in accommodations, we were on the cheaper side rarely staying in hotels and mostly staying in municipal or privately run Albergues. This kept our costs down to on average €30 per day per person for everything (food, Accom, church donations) so about $50AUD per day and we took 6 weeks bringing our total to $2,100pp. We carried our gear each day so didn’t have the expense of transporting luggage. I know you could get this service for €5 per day and use as you like between towns. We did use www.expressbourricot.com/ to transport our main suitcases from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago where it was held by a hotel in Santiago for us for as long as we needed. This one off luggage service cost was €70. You really don’t need to take much, we took about 3-4kg each which was very easy to carry daily and trekking poles are a great assistance when walking. I hope this helps!
Great film and well done, I will be walking the WHW solo with some camping and some hotels etc in May this year 2024. Your film helped me with my research and planning, hope all is well with you in Australia 🇦🇺, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
Thanks Chris! Hope you have a wonderful trip, midgies should be a lot less of an issue in May 😀

I have just finished watching all the Camino journey. I stopped inside the first few minutes of this video because I am overwhelmed with a feeling of being both humbled and feeling absolutely inadequate. Your whole family achieved something special. And you gave me the gift of a valuable heads-up. When I walk the Camino I'll make sure I pack a folding toilet seat and a pop-up toilet tent. ( I'm not risking running a gauntlet of the poo-mined grassy areas of the Way. I like having white shoes too much. I didn't realise that you had walked in Scotland - I live in Edinburgh ( someone has to). So I'll watch more of your videos later . So thank you for making my day comfortable; made it feel worthwhile, too.
To be honest....for the first half of this video I thought you and your daughter were sisters. For the first half of this video I had forgotten that I had followed your original release of each-and-every video of your walk. When I finally realised that I had seen the whole of this walk I also remembered how much fun, interesting, inspiring and entertaining it was. So.......as I have a day to myself ( I'm actually kinda ill ) I will binge-watch the other 40 wonderful videos. Thanks for taking the time and effort to record your family's Camino.
Thank you for your lovely comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed watching our journey. We really had the best time and sometimes it’s hard to capture that on camera 😊 Sorry to hear you’re not feeling well 💙💛 xx
Hi Claire, You were mentioning about the lack of soap and toilet paper supplied along the Camino. I have noticed over the years that this has been an issue but what I think has happened is that the bars, hostels etc have associations and they about things costs like toilet paper and soap that continually got taken from their toilets. So most of them stopped restocking. Chris from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺
Hi guys, second breakfast only works on Camino because of all the calories you are burning. Chris from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺
Would love to make contact. Plan to walk the Camino and am fascinated by the psychology of your Camino, with your kids.
Hi Norman, feel free to drop me a private message 😊✌️
I love this video i have done the the Camino 10 years ago and my dream would be doing it with my 3 adult children but alas not to be maybe with some grandkids. So uplifting well done

¿Qué tal esa casi interminable recta hasta Calzadilla de la Cueza? Tiempo de introspección ❤
Mesón Cowboy en El Ganso. El punto más surrealista de la ruta 😄
Especially because of covid, I wouldn't want to share any toiletries with a few hundred people. I would definitely carry my own wipes. It's bad enough that some places have bed bugs. I imagine they get into your belongings and people carry them from bed to bed. Enjoying your journey and hoping the end was purposeful to all even if everyone experienced something that is personal to themselves.
I hope the teens appreciated the journey in the end. They seemed to complain about being there and I felt that they didn't want to do this, and were forced to do it. It's not their idea of vacation or fun. Maybe they are not ready for enlightenment because they haven't lived a longer life. Hoping for a better additude in the end and a feeling of accomplishment and awakening. It was a beautiful thought to bring the teens along as long as they didn't stop you from completing your purpose. I would have loved to have this opportunity in my teens.
Thank you for sharing.. this was amazing..
Thank you for your kind comment 🙏✌️💙
Great experience guys, we really enjoyed the commentary good fun. We are using some of your advice in our plan so thanks very much

¡BUEN CAMINO! That is an amazing looking poncho and pack cover set Claire! Where did you get them from please? I assume they're dyneema... and no, im not interested in Callum's lovely Naturehike poncho that can be turned into a "yawning" 🤣... got one of them already, lol.
Haha yes! We love the Yawning 😂 But the Dyneema poncho is a lot better. I’ve got the Zpacks one which doubles as our ground sheet for the tent. It kept me and my pack bone dry through two days of pretty solid rain. It’s not cheap though…it was $250USD 😮 but we plan to do the PCT one day so we’re trying to slowly build our kit up, one expensive ultralight piece at a time. ✌️😀
@@callumclairesadventures8793 cool, thanks!
Pity you did not sleep over in Trabadelo, a village you walked through on this day. Great place to stay is Casa Suzi, owned and operated by one of your compatriots. Maybe next time.
There were so many places we wanted to stay and missed out on! Maybe next time 😋✌️💙💛
Nice video. Is there mobile reception over this section? Is this section well sign posted. (could I get lost?)Amazing scenery.
The section is really well sign posted, I didn’t use my far out app at all. Pretty well Cape Jervis to Tanunda is well marked. My dad has done the whole thing end to end and said some of the sections out north aren’t as well marked. Yep if you’re with Telstra you’ll get good mobile coverage. Not sure with other providers. If you have time and haven’t already done it we’d recommend the Cape Jervis to Kings Beach section, it has incredible scenery!!
@callumclairesadventures8793 thanks for your reply. I watched your video from Cape Jarvis and the scenery is great but my a great deal of coastal views. My preference is inland, farmland and hills. Is there anywhere to stay in Inman Valley where I don't have to camp...as you did....I followed your family on the Camino and enjoyed your journey. Living in ADL this is an option closer to home. Ps. Loved the wildlife.
@@grahama9791 aha then yes the rest of the southern section along the heysen would be for you. Mainly inland through paddocks and conservation parks with some road walking. There is no accommodation directly in Inman valley but there are a few bnbs scattered throughout the fleuriue which you could possibly taxi to. The heysen trail website has a wonderful comprehensive list of accomodation both on the trail and close by. I’ve linked here as this will probably be your best resource. No one wants to talk about euros.. is it paper or lost of change and how much should you carry.
We used nearly all euro cash in notes as it was easier to manage our budget that way. We had a daily budget of 30Euro pp so for our family of 4 it was 120 euro per day. We withdrew it weekly and kept in a money belt. This was the perfect amount and we finished right on budget. Since covid, credit and debit cards are accepted at a lot of places now but we found cash easier. 💛💙✌️

Thank you Callum and Claire's Adventures for sharing your beautiful journey. I'd sincerely appreciate your thoughts: To what extent do you think wild camping or camping in campgrounds is possible on the Camino Frances? My partner and I are experienced lightweight backpackers and already have our gear and would enjoy being able to camp part of the time and to occasionally stay in albergues and hotels. And do you think it would it be possible to do this while still meeting up with new friends for meals in town? We've also heard horror stories about how noisy some of the albergues can be at night, making it impossible to sleep, so that a tent for a good part of the time seems even more attractive (would you agree)?
Thank you Leigh 🙏 During our little journey we didn’t see anyone camping, I have heard of some people doing it but I think it may be illegal to camp along most sections of the frances? But I could be wrong on this 😊 I do think you may miss a lot of the pilgrim experience if you camped but it also depends on what experience you are looking for. We found our bonds with other pilgrims really strengthened along the Meseta in the albergues over meals at night. In terms of noisy pilgrims and sleeping in albergues it was not too much of an issue for us. We had a couple of nights where people were up early and a bit noisy but overall it didn’t bother us. We used earplugs at night when needed and booked the occasional private room. We love nature hiking and camping too but I think on this hike in particular you may miss out on the pilgrim community experience. But if it is legal and it is your preferred way to hike I would say go for it 💙💛✌️
@@callumclairesadventures8793 Thank you very much. Your personal experience matters much more than any quick comment in a guide book or forum and I really appreciate you sharing it. Also wondering about the cost of private rooms for 2 in an albergue, government guest house or modest hotel versus the cost of 2 people staying in your average albergue. If we don't take our camping gear we'd love to know we have the option of a quiet room if loud noise is a consistent problem (especially hearing that the Camino Frances is becoming more and more popular).
Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed following your journey. Well shot vid and wonderfully put together. Truly inspirational. Maybe one day I might try myself. Thanks again.

@@callumclairesadventures8793 Nice, we would love to do the Del Norte, but unfortunately our companies won't sign off 6 weeks again (last year was our delayed honeymoon so they were a little bit more generous) so we will settle with Portugal, setting off from Porto on the 21st August and will also do Santiago to Finisterre as we didn't have time last year to complete that. Highly addictive!
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey! Fellow South Australians (Barossa)...planning to go August 2024! Have a small question (may be more) did you get the train straight from Charles de Gaulle or from Paris to St Jean pied de port? Best place you stayed?
Thank you!!💙💛 How exciting 2024 😀 we spent a week in Paris to help us get over jet lag and explore the city a bit. Then we caught the train from Gare Montparnasse to Bayonne and Bayonne to SJPDP…but this was booked as one ticket. When we went they overbooked the train from Bayonne to SJPDP so they put the extras into a bus to SJPDP. We thankfully got the train which was much nicer.
