Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Book Review
มุมมอง 1043 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello Everyone! ~ Today we will be discussing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and the themes that it presents. I am super excited to begin my Book Review Journey here on TH-cam. Please share your opinions and recommendations in the comments or on Instagram. I hope you enjoy the video! ~ Peace ~
Loved this book so much, thanks for the review 👍🏽
The civil rights activists he worked with did not accept his sexuality and they also thought he “wasnt black enough” this is interesting because as a gay man I have been more a victim of other gay men than I ever have from straight men… the novel is about guilt, shame and how a narcissist hurts other people
As a gay man I found this book depressing and the ending unbearable to read. I would have loved another version of this scenario based on Giovanni's viewpoint and the horror of his impending death caused in part by the confusion of a bisexual relationship. It is interesting that many people see this book as being a gay book of any great importance, and there are many praises of it by similar readers on TH-cam. Why this at this moment in time ? In my opinion it is a safe read and not any longer one of the key books of gay experience. And yet Baldwin is a writer of importance and perhaps more important on other issues, such as the racial one, than of homosexuality.
I totally feel that. As a Bisexual myself I found myself also struggling with the ending of the book. But I think when discussing this work two things sort of helped me grapple with those contradictions. One being the time when the book was written and also the context in which those (or lack their of) conversations were taking place. And secondly there is a great interview with Baldwin where he is discussing Love, what it means, and what happens to people when that love is rejected or ignored for the sake of conforming the Heterosexual norms of the society that really helped shed some light on what he was feeling and I think saw for us as sexually non-conforming peoples in our cruel world. I think it speaks volumes that their love was not able to work and that tragic things happened to the characters, but life and love in the world is messy and not always wrapped in a nice bow even today. TDLR - I feel you! ! ~ And yes, there are much better books out now that discuss these topics !

The part I was referencing was at around the 10 minute mark. Let me know what you think ~
Hi Steven! Just wanted to say this is an AMAZING review! I literally just found this video and your channel, and I'm honestly so happy I did. You speak with such kindness and intelligence, I can tell the subject matter moved you a great dead, it did the same for me. I also abhor guns and the cavalier attitude so many people in our world have towards war and violence more generally. I checked your channel to see if you had any more videos, and I noticed you haven't uploaded in over a year. Would you ever consider making book reviews again? I only ask because from this video alone, it's clear to me you are one of the best on TH-cam. 😂All of this is just a very long way of me saying thank you for your wonderful review, and you've got a new subscriber in me! Take care, man. Sending love from the UK 🇬🇧 ❤
Trumbo wrote this book in the early 1970's as an anti-war book. How he wrote the story as an anti-war book may be disturbing for people, but there is more to how war effects people aside from PTSD. Trumbo showed this both in the book and the movie. He felt it was important to show it.
Spectacular review 💫 I’m 40% into my first re read ever in life lol I will be reading the night circus again and again and again and I have vowed I would never ever be a re reader 😂 🙈I’m also not much of a fantasy person to be honest but THE NIGHT CIRCUS 😮 🎪 chefs kiss goooood 🤌🏿
just finished reading the book, totally included in my all time favorite list, liked your review❤
The movie cant really convey what Joe is going through. The book describes in detail what he is experiencing. When I was in high school I almost hyperventilated and had to get up and walk around while I tried to imagine myself in this predicament. The general description was as if he were drowning and being thrust back into the womb. It really is straight forward and terrifying.
His name was actually Joe Bonham I believe. I’m reading it now it’s an intense book. I’ve read All Quiet on the Western Front which is another dark anti war book from this same war, we’ll see which one I think is better
currently reading "Another Country" by James Baldwin, Giovanni's room is next and I am in love with the way he drives his prose. Thank you for the review :)
Agreed! ~ Such an amazing writer ❤
Amma suggest my favourite book of all times. The Shell: Memoir Of a Hidden Observer. By Mostafa Khalifa (English translated version of course)
This book has been banned in Syria by the Government, not by the citizens whom loved and respected the book, those who got a hold of it illegally. The government didn't want people inside or outside the country to know about the book. This book is not politic based, it is rather a compelling story of the author who had been put in prison and blamed guilty of acts he had not committed. The story has graceful high ups and gruesome down lows, and so many different scenarios happening through out the book, making the book an absolute page turner. I read the book in Arabic, but the book is translated to English and people are giving the translator a lot of credit for his accurate translation on Amazon reviews. So check the book out I promise you will be surprised.
Read it today after work. It is magnificent. I am going to learn morse code because it could help save my life or end it mercifully. The sad part for me was his flashbacks to his hometown throughout the book. Those moments gripped my soul. No lie. I for one have isolated my self from everyone that claimed to love me and who I have claimed to love, Joe Bonham had no choice but to be isolated, I do it by choice. That was sobering as fuck. Thanks for the review!
I just watched the film and got curious about what the book was like, great review!
Thank you making this video and I found this novel in a box in a library giving away for free!!! If you didn't know there's a movie on TH-cam and the reason why I got into this war was because, war is unpleasant destination men been fighting for years
Just finished this this morning. Horrifying, scariest and saddest thing ive ever read
It truly is, but I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless! ~
Never cared much for fantasy novels but I might pick up this book after this review.
OMG!!!! By now you have finished the book and by now you also know that at the time you made this review the best of the exploits of Don Quixote and Sancho were yet to come. Perhaps you could drop a comment to let us know your experience in completing the book? For instance, I'd love to know your reaction to Sancho's governorship, or how Sancho fulfills his obligations with regard to his self- flagellation. [EDIT] I don't know which translation you read, but I read the Putnam translation of the International Collector's Library publication and that volume didn't include all the digressions about the love affairs of all the young couples but rather concentrated on Don Quixote and Sancho which made it a much shorter and more satisfying read.
No worries! I plan on making a video on my reactions for the 2nd half of the story once I finish everything up! 🌱 I read the Smollett Translation as it's the most *accurate* translation to the original, but I'm also interested in reading the Grossman translation later on!
@@Liberation_Library There is an excellent audiobook of the Grossman translation currently available here on You Tube. The narrator's presentation is off-the-charts great! If you decide to check it out make sure the narrator is George Guidall. You can skip ahead to the 30 minute mark to avoid the prologue and a lot of other stuff and get directly to the book.
I am finally reading this. I am also reading Jeanette Wintersons oranges are not the only fruit. These are two books put off reading for sooo long. Both of these books are already becoming favorites and I'm only a few chapters in on both
never leaves my mind when people bring up books , nice review (:
Great review my dude. Keep up the great work!:)
Thank you, bro!
