Chudo Master has developed his very own unique brand of music featuring the traditional Litungu stringed instrument. Together with his band, Chudo has created a style of Blues Music which he calls the “Litungu Blues”. This style of blues draws heavily from Delta Blues with a Swamp and Louisiana Blues feel. Whilst Chudo’s music is fresh and uniquely East African it also shows the clear link between African traditional music and contemporary Blues Music.
He is also one of the premier session percussionists in East Africa. Chudo began playing percussion at a very young age and over time he has developed his playing style into a powerful, flexible beat maker with the ability to incorporate African traditional music with Jazz, Reggae, Funk, RnB and much more. He is now considered one of Tanzania’s leading percussionists and is regularly sought after by local and touring artists. His ability to bring life and feeling to any genre of music, and to quickly find the space to express his groove, gives his fellow musicians power and strength within their own music.
As a teenager, he joined with fellow musicians and friends to form the ZeSpirits Group who are still performing to this day. Since 2014 Chudo’s playing career has included collaborations, recordings, international tours and numerous appearances at Festivals and Concerts in Tanzania.
His first international experience was with the Umoja Cultural Flying Carpet in Norway, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. Since then he has made many international and local performances at the Bagamoyo Festival, Karibu Festival, Doa Doa Festival Uganda, Ilimba Cultural Festival in Arusha, Wikendi Live in Dar es Salaam and Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar, Ufa fabrik -Berlin,Germany, Fest Afrika -Tampere,Finland, Laba Daba Festival-Latvia, Utamaduni Camp-Denmark, Durchlüften Festival-Berlin,Germany. The list of artists he appeared with includes; Abeneko & The positive Mind , Damian Soul, Shabo Makota, Mopao Swahili Jazz, Vitali Maembe, Sara Nankoma, Thais Diarra, Ambassa Mandela, Mankipinty, Duutop Acoustic, Mankifimbo, Upendo Manasse, Jhikoman, Fadhilee Itulya, Makadem, Nant Oma, Lily Kadima, Akoth Jumadi, Stone Town Rockers, Richie Lumambo, Swahili Acounter’s and more.
