      I'm a strategists so I'm solving problems in advertising or looking for business opportunities for clients. In terms of degrees, it would depends on what role you're interested in e.g. as a developer you would need a degree in that, but for many other roles a degree is not needed or asked for. I did my degree is psychology but I was hired on my previous experience. Startups will always care more about what you have done vs what you studied. I have a video about skills to work in a startup which covers what skills are relevant.

    I joined a startup AI-based as junior engineer, but its getting stressful like each day i need to work like 14 hours on average. Most of the time, complete project responsibility comes on my head, i need to tackle it single handedly. This causes road blocks, scolding from my manager and then frustration of not performing. I am fresh college graduate, I still dont know lots of thing. But should i leave the job and get into MNCs, to get some relief or continue this hell on earth so that my career in future be fast paced with huge learning in my bag

      @@lydiataylor4598 Actually, it's a 3-month internship as it was supposed to end in December but I'm still continuing to work with the start-up in the hope of getting converted into a full-time paid position assuming the company is going to get funded and also to gain as much experience as I can. As much as I love to work here, I can't keep working for free for much longer as I need a source of income for rent and other expenses, especially during this pandemic situation. So I would probably leave the start-up if I get a job offer from some other company for a full-time paid position. Heyy! Loved your video! I recently joined a startup....branch. We work for an international company but they just started a new branch in the country where I am living. I shifted here from a much larger company with around 80-100 employees. It's my 3rd day at work and I'm not throughly happy with the environment as we are a team of 7 members. I can't talk to many ppl like I used to and I feel like I'm losing interest in my work. Being an interior designer I am so passionate and excited about my job but lately I have been feeling drained out and super bored at work. I have heard ppl say that working in a small firm gives better experience and all that, but I'd like to know what I would be able to gain specifically by working in such a compact environment. We are trying to get more projects, and there are only two people including me in the design team. Which I belive will give me better exposure and experience but if you could tell me a little more about what to expect from here, that would be great. And maybe tips to stay motivated in an environment with hardly anyone to talk to. (I'm a very social person but the rest of the team members except for my boss aren't very friendly and talkative). Hope your reply will be helpful ❤ Thanks!

It's one thing to ask "hey can I help on this?" it's very different to offer 'Hey, I can help by researching into this topic. You want to position yourself as someone who goes above and beyond as in a startup that's what it really takes to succeed. And do what you say! Hey Vaughn, exciting to hear you are looking at startups. I would say if you have startup networks in your area, make sure you go to events. E.g. I'm in london so I got to a lot of tech talks, think tank events and use a site called Unicorn Hunt to as they have networking sometimes. The other thing you can do is target startups you are interested in, so find out who won recent competitions from incubators for example, find a company you are interested in and then contact a key person at that business via linked in or email (if you can find it). If you go down this route, be very direct and how you can help them, how do you solve a problem for them and how you are passionate about them specifically. They likely get a lot of emails so your approach matters. I hope this helps!

    • @lydsie1768
      @lydsie1768 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chase! That's exciting, I hope it goes well. For me I think I wish I knew the realities of business growth more. The biggest learning I had is that whilst I may know the company inside out and be a very important member of the team, there will be hiring decisions which can be difficult for you to accept in your first startup. For example, it's not always the case that companies hire from within, often when there are external shareholders, growth decisions need to look impressive to the board so you may not get the standard official 'title growth' you would get in a corporate. You have to be ok with that in your first role in a startup for sure. Hope that is useful :)

  • @myfakebritishaccent
    @myfakebritishaccent 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What made you finally decide to shift to a startup? Did you feel like it was risky to leave the comfort and stability of a larger company? And what are the factors you had to weigh before making that decision?

    • @lydsie1768
      @lydsie1768 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! For me it actually was not a scary decision. I knew from when I first met the founder that I really belived in the business model and actually it solved a lot of frustrations I had in my job at the time. Yes you do loose out on things like good holiday (in my case), health care, corporate perks but you learn much faster so to me I think it's it's like a career shortcut for a few years. My 2 big factors were, 1 taking a less competitive salary - which long term is not an issue as often salaries grow as the business grows in most startups. Also a factor is having a not such a good job title as you don't have hierarchy levels in a small startup. This is a bit annoying but I also think experince will always over shadow title. . Hope that helps :)

      That's awesome! God I feel like I have learnt a lifetime more since I posted this video. My top tips now would be 1) Get a mentor or a group of other new entrepreneurs around you early on, 2) you dont always need to have the answer so put investigating above fast solutions and 3) if you grow beyond 20 people, make a concious focus on culture.

    Hi there, thanks for inspired. Do you have any specifics tradition in your startup? I mean, for tie-up the solidarity or just to blend anyone in your place?

      Hey, I'm glad you liked it. Hmm not really to be honest. We always have people give a little summary about themselves and posit it with their favourite GIF on the all company Slack channel. When you make it to a year you have to do a dance but that is it really :)
