Thanks! It actually had true dual exhaust with chambered mufflers tucked vertically next to each other before the rear axle. I cannot remember the brand, but I believe they were flowmasters.

what changes were made to the exhaust system ?
magnaflow bullet catalytic convertors, resonator removal, and magnaflow mufflers. It was tinny-sounding at first but then developed a good mellow sound.
How much is maintaince on the car?
I sold it a long time ago but it wasn't that bad. The older BMWs are some of the best cars to come out of Germany, that's why they can fetch the same if not higher prices than newer models. I'm a Euro car guy though so I always performed preventative maintenance rather than let things go. That's where a lot of people make mistakes. The reality is, when a car cost $88,000 new, it will not be cheap to take care of. Even DIY oil changes cost ~$85. The smile a well kept BMW will put on your face is priceless though.

Jesse Lambert it's a 98 so it has a 4.4 but without VANOS so it has the free-flowing 4-2-1 style headers from the factory. 99-01 Cars have terrible manifolds with catalytic convertors built in that choke the motor.
