2015 Zero Motorcycles, Zero SR Battery Swap
Yes, I get the name wring throughout the entire video. My Deepest Apologies, Someone please make a better video than me. Thank you for watching.
This is a simple but long winded explanation on how to I remove and replace the battery from a 2015 Zero DS to a 2015 Zero SR. This will void any warranty you may have left. I'm not responsible for any injury or damage that comes form following this video. Follow my Instructions at your own risk.
It's fairly easy thing to remove and replace the battery in a Zero Motorcycle, but it can be dangerous if you don't have the right tools. Please treat the battery pack with respect as it has the potential to seriously hurt or kill you.
I hope this video helps you. Thanks for watching!

Ninja 250 conversion Project. In this episode I'm removing the upper bodywork and faring of a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja 250 as well as draining the "Fluids".
How much kw is that battery
I believe it’s 13 kilowatt-hour, 134 volts.
Thank you man
This is an awesome video, I love seeing this and it is giving me some confidence to look at my bike a little closer. I have a 2015 DS and the charger seems to have died. I was riding the bike one day and rode it all the way down to 0% but was able to make it home on fumes. I plugged it in when I got home and it charged for a little while, up to 28% and then just stopped. I tried different circuits, turning the bike ona nd off and unplugging it and plugging it back in. I also continued to ride the bike until it is down to 0% now. When I plug the bike in, I get no information from the chargers in the logs. I can compare when I was charging to now and see that the charger is not being recognized. Do you have an advice for me to try to replace the charger myself? Have you don that repair?
The charger is an easy swap, as long as you can find a cheap replacement. They’re around $900 from Zero. You can get a wall charger for around $500 and remove the one on your bike. It will lower the weight of your bike, but limit your ability to charge on the road.
Thank you so much. This is encouraging!
Once you had installed the battery, how did you get the BMS software set up to match that battery?
The battery size was the same, and as I understand, the BMS is on the battery itself. You can check and reset by looking under the two black rubber circles at the front of the battery pack.
Very good man it is actually possible to do it thanks a lot for your video a sharing your experience
They wanted 6k for a battery n service? How much was the battery? I heard you can’t just buy parts from zero and you have to take it to a dealer unless u get the parts second handed
The new battery from Zero was $6k, then another grand or so for the dealership to install it. I naught the salvage bike for 2k and did the swap myself 👍
Wait so you just bought a new battery from them?
I bought an entire broken Zero for a fraction of the price of a new battery from Zero.
@@sms021 awesome I'm glad for ya. Can't imagine I'd find one in MN but perhaps copart in Florida. But how did you evaluate the battery before bidding? Sometimes lithium ion lithium polymer have accelerated draining that is only observed under load
Where that battery sales?
I was lucky enough to pick up a wrecked Zero from a local dealer. I don’t see many damaged ones listed on line for sale. I keep looking.
I'm sure I will never try this at home but I liked seeing inside the bike. Thanks.
Thanks much for the well done video.
Yep. Good one. I m😀ay have to do it to mine one day.
I lifted my 2014 S up with a pallet stacker (like a small manual forklift). I also replaced the crappy 2014 Fastace forks with a complete KTM Duke 390 front end. WP forks and 320mm Brembo work beautifully.
SR ... not RS.
Not so bad. Just need to rent an engine hoist for the bike. I have a 2016 DSR with a bad cell and I’m hoping to do something similar in its future. I’ve been looking on coppart for a crashed bike. Any recommendations for sourcing a crashed bike?
I've been watching CoPart as well. My best resource was a local dealer. You might take a day and just call around and see if anyone has one or knows of one that they need to offload.
I see why so many sale their bikes after the 5 year warranty
so? did it solve the problem?
Absolutely! Been commuting on it regularly since. Back to good range and no noticeable issues have come up.
So glad you showed this
I'm glad some are finding it helpful. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for this video
Well done!
