The animation is inaccurate and there is some misinformation in this video. The drugs don't stop HIV from entering the CD4 cell. Truvada is not a chemokine receptor antagonist it is a reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It just prevents reverse transcription from converting RNA into DNA, (in the case of Truvada by inserting itself into the viral dna chain); therefore cutting short the reproduction process.

I'm so glad that here in Brazil we can get PrEP for free via the public health system. It would be grand to also see a mention of the on-demand PrEP scheme in this video. It seemto be as highly effective a system of taking the PrEP pills as the daily version :-)

I am so happy to live in the EU - we have a good access to testing. One HIV clinic is close to my home, the doctor is really supportive and gives me PrEP. Tests (non-anonymous) are covered by insurance, anonymous tests by NGOs.

How long does HIV live inside a host body taking PrEP while the virus can't replicate? Does the immune system kill it off immediately?
I don't know how long, but without the ability to copy itself, the HIV virus will get caught by our immune system and be killed. I don't remember it was immediately, it was more like within a few hours though.

@@hectorcortez8766 in theory, you're correct that a condom should be used while taking prep, but I think the whole reason for taking prep is to not use a condom
Truvada only protects against HIV. Condoms stop Hepatitis B, Syphillis, and other infectious diseases. Blood bourne diseases are what nobody wants in their life.

Prep is to HIV/AIDS what the vaccine is to COVID-19. The only difference is that Prep is on-going (one pill a day) while the vaccine is one and done (Johnson and Johnson) or two shots and done (Pfizer and Modena).
Im a single guy. Always been safe. Yet guys on dating sites taking prep want condom free sex.. There protected im not.. Seems u can only get this if you sleep around take risks.. I still have safe sex but would be great to have extra protection.. Would i be refused???

I've heard is possible. But even if the med works they would never tell because it would be against their protocol. But I can definitely say that prep makes the immune system a lot stronger, therefore, it makes a lot of sense to help even if little to get rid of other viruses.

They were actually making trials for this, because they theorized that it could prevent the infection or reduce the aggressiveness if acquired, but I’m not sure what they ended up discovering.

I know people with HIV who haven’t gotten Covid-19 who strongly believe its because of the HIV anti-virals they’re taking once a day.
it cost 35usd per month (30 days pill) in my country, with maximum 4 months supply allowed during each purchase. Require HIV negative test prior to next 4months supply. its quite affordable for me so i took 1 pill per day despite me on very occasional hook up. plus with barrier protection off course.
